The Loft and The Stables are very special places to stay, both contemporary in design but cosy and beautifully decorated in earthy muted tones. The Loft - located on the east wing of the owners property but with complete privacy via a private wooden staircase. Open plan living and kitchen area lead to a separate bedroom with adjoined bathroom. There is a private courtyard with table and chairs and BBQ. The Stables - newly renovated for Spring 2013, stands alone in the grounds of King's Orchard. The open plan living and kitchen area have a beautiful vaulted ceiling. There is a separate bedroom with adjoined bathroom and an outside area with table and chairs and BBQ. Fresh eggs from the King's orchard hens if laying, milk, tea, coffee are all provided for your arrival. King's Orchard is perfectly located in the heart of the Purbeck. From the door you can join the Purbeck Way where the wild sika deer roam. Corfe Castle, Studland, Poole Harbour and the famous Jurassic coast are in easy reach.

The Loft is located on the east wing of the owners property but with complete privacy via a private wooden staircase. The Loft is contemporary in design and is beautifully decorated throughout in earthy muted tones. The kitchen and living area is open plan but cosy, with an eaved roof that gives it a cottage feel. The living area has a comfy leather sofa, reading chair and dining table. The kitchen contains a cooker, microwave, fridge, sink, dishwasher, kettle, toaster, all cookware, utensils and kitchen essentials such as cling film, foil etc. Access to washing machine is possible. The separate bedroom has a comfy double bed with crisp 100% cotton bedlinen and plenty of storage space. A spotless contemporary bathroom with shower is adjoined. For sunny days there is a private courtyard with wrought iron table and chairs and BBQ.

About the Owner

We retired from Birmingham down to Dorset after holidaying down here for many years. We so loved the wonderful walks and sailing that we promised ourselves we would one day move down to enjoy it permanently. King's Orchard is said to be on the site of medieval King John's orchard. The house was built 10 years ago and the East wing was recently converted into a private one bedroom apartment. We have two grown up daughters and 4 grand children, who all enjoy visits to the Dorset countryside. We still love walking and are happy to recommend some of the best routes in the area

Great position for exploring the area. Recommend a cycle from Studland to Bournemouth along the sea front. Lovely walks from the door and comfortable and homely accommodation. Thank you.

Our second stay at Kings Orchard This time in the Loft.This was every bit as comfortable as the stables, well equipped and beautifully clean. Clair and Michael could not be more welcoming. The setting is so peaceful and to wake up to deer in the garden is delightful Next stay already booked.

The Stables - a wonderful place to stay

We had a week in The Stables and enjoyed it immensely. Clair and Michael were very helpful and accommodating and had renovated The Stables into an ideal holiday getaway. The cottage has been built and maintained to a very high standard and it was very clean on arrival. They gave us lots of tips where to visit and where to eat and we enjoyed exploring this lovely part of Dorset. We had a wonderful week and will return again one day. Thank you Clair and Michael!

The Stables - The perfect place to stay

The stables property is in a great location and is a fabulous cottage. It was clean and well maintained inside and out. It has been lovingly created by Michael and Claire the owners, who have given great care and attention to detail and comfort. Michael and Claire live on site and were very helpful and welcoming. They shared their knowledge of the area and were keen to ensure that all our needs were met. The stables is outside wareham and provides a tranquil setting with easy access to many towns. The Jurrasic coast is spectacular and we would recommend a visit to Old Harry, Lulworth Cove and the Durdle Door. We would recommend highly a stay in the stables with Michael and Claire as hosts.

One of the best

Just back after having had two lovely weeks at The Stables, everything was spot on, the accomodation and location were perfect.

We received a friendly and warm welcome from Clare & Michael who made us feel very at home.

This is certainly a place we will return to in the future.

Great place to stay

Fabulous accommodation with everything one could want. The Loft was very well equipped, comfortable and in a very peaceful location. Michael and Clare greeted us on arrival and nothing was too much trouble should it have been required.

The Loft was in an excellent position to explore the surrounding Dorset countryside with places such as Corfe Castle, Lulworth Cove, Tyneham, Studland and Swanage within very easy reach.

We would be more than happy to return without any hesitation in the future.

We love living at Kings Orchard, it is such a peaceful location surrounded by farmland but so close to the spectacular Jurassic Coast.

We have close links to the nearby Olive Tree Cookery School, where you can attend one day, or longer, cookery courses in anything from Sicilian Cooking to mushroom foraging to cupcakes to Summer Desserts etc. The Olive Tree Cookery School have their own website with further details


The nearest coast/beach is Kimmeridge 2.5 miles but the Isle of Purbeck is surrounded by the breathtaking Jurassic Coast, England's first World Heritage site, some of the most beautiful coastline in the country. From the sandy beaches at Studland, fossil hunting/underwater nature trail at Kimmeridge and the rock formations at Durdle Door/Lulworth Cove there is something for everyone. Nearby Poole Harbour has Brownsea Island are also worth a visit


The use of car/car hire is recommend, some guests have been happy without, but, you are advised to discuss this. Bournemouth international airport, approx 25 miles away. Nearby are Corfe Castle, Kimmeridge, Lulworth, Durdle Door, Corfe Castle, Studland, Swanage, Poole, Sandbanks, Bournemouth, Weymouth and Dorchester. There is a mainline railway station at Wareham and the Sandbanks chain link ferry at Studland. There is also a steam train that runs between Corfe Castle and Swanage.


Wareham 2 miles, Swanage 7 miles, Corfe Castle 4 miles, Kimmeridge, 2.5 miles, Studland 8 miles, Poole 12 miles, Bournemouth 16 miles, Dorchester 16 miles and Weymouth 18 miles.

Further Details:

Perfectly located to explore the Isle of Purbeck, there is so much to see - the old stone village of Corfe, dominated by the spectacular ruin of Corfe Castle, Arne RSPB reserve, Swanage Steam Railway (from Norden to Swanage), The Blue Pools and deserted Tyneham village.

Within easy reach are cycle trails through Wareham Forest, Bovington Tank Museum, Dorchester and Abbotsbury Swan Sanctuary.

Water sport activities are available at Lulworth Cove include - Kayaking, Coasteering, Paddle boarding, Windsurfing and Kite surfing.

  • Notes on accommodation: We like to provided a friendly personal greeting and on site help to all our guests. We are more than happy to give our local knowledge and advise of places of interest to visit. An up to date local map and visitor literature are provide in both accommodations. Should you arrive by rail or bus we will collect you from the local stations. Single travelers may find it reassuring that we are on site nearly all of the time It should be noted that the buildings are only clad in wood to meet local planing requirements. They both meet the latest building standards for insulation and fire resistance. There are no 'extra' charges for electricity, heating, internet services etc. All services included in price. We are sorry to say we are unable accommodate any pets.
