House in Gracay, Cher, Loire Valley, France - Peaceful Location, Short Walking Distance To All Village Amenities And River Walks

Beautiful detached village house built in 1860, opposite the impressive Notre Dame Church. The gardens are enclosed and in the back can be found part of the historic town ramparts. The house has been totally renovated, is well insulated and has double glazing throughout. There is a large entrance hall, a living room/dining room, a smaller sitting room with access to the back garden and a large well equipped kitchen on the ground floor. Upstairs there are 2 en suite bedrooms.

About the Owner

We are both retired, my husband was a marine assessor and I was a social worker and yoga teacher. We have both travelled to many places around the world and met in New Zealand over 30 years ago. We often travelled through France on our way to other destinations until some friends moved to live in the Centre of France. We started to visit them and fell in love with the country, the people and life style. In 2006 we took the plunge and moved to live permanently in France with no regrets.

A Great Holiday Home

  • 5 of 5

We have just spent a week at this property with friends of ours who also run a classic car so secure, off road parking is always an important feature. The property is better than described and Peter and Anne are wonderful hosts. The ensuite facilities in each bedroom are a great advantage and the beds very comfortable. The kitchen is a good size and well appointed as are the other rooms. There are very pleasant areas both front and back for taking the air or eating when the weather is fine. We took most of our breakfasts sitting outside at the front! Fresh bread etc can be obtained each morning within easy walking distance. A reasonably well stocked supermarket and an absolutely superb top notch restaurant (and other more regular eateries and bars) are also close by in this quiet and friendly village. It might officially be a town but it definitely had a village feel about it with a pleasant market held on Thursdays.

Gracay is not situated in the centre of the Loire tourist corridor but all of this is only an hour or so pleasant drive away. Local prices reflect this fact too! However there are some very attractive places to visit locally and good walking to be had.

Not a place to stay if you want be out clubbing every night to the small hours but for those who want a less frenetic break you would find it difficult to find a more pleasant and convenient base.

Excellent

  • 5 of 5

We have recently stayed at this beautiful house, everything about this property was beautiful from the outside in. The host were the best we have ever meet, accommodating but not intrusive. The relaxed atmosphere of the hosts and the village was welcome as we wanted a relaxing break. We have no hesitation in recommending this beautiful property with wonderful hosts to any one wanting to explore central France but in a relaxed atmosphere.

Location

From the Owner

We fell in love with Gracay before moving to France and decided on this house, despite the work required to totally renovate it to suit modern requirements, as we felt it was ideal for what we wanted. We have tried to retain as many original features as possible. It took us a year of hard work and we now have 2 separate houses. We live in the smaller half and are here if you need anything but will not impinge on your privacy.

Facilities

From the Owner

The house is in a quiet village location whilst being close to the main routes for exploring the Centre of France, its Chateaux, vineyards and much more. Despite our central position in the village, it is very peaceful (the church bells only ring once a day at midday) yet we are a short walk from the shops and all village amenities.
