Great vacation house!

  • 5 of 5

We were a party of 3-11, with family and friends coming and going over a two week period. The group included seniors and two small children. The house was very comfortable and provided space for all to do their own thing.

Breakfast in the large airy dining room provided a venue for us all to plan our day, and dinner at night provided an opportunity to debrief at the end of each day. A couple of nights got kind of rowdy, but the privacy made that ok.

We did day trips most days, and it is a great central location for exploring Western Ireland.

The owners were very pleasant and helpful in explaining the use of European appliances, etc., quite different from US, particularly the laundry equipment.

Only negative was that wifi was very slow.

Too bad Ireland is so far from California, we would be back frequently if it was closer!

Fantastic property, shame about the owner.

  • 5 of 5

The star rating is for the property, it is fantastic.

Our stay was very pleasant, we were a party of 6 and were out all day every day.

Communication with Jonathan was poor, once I had paid.

He was on his boat on the river Shannon for some time I understand.

He had, he said, arranged a fishing trip for the men in our party and gave us a contact number to which there was never a reply. Not having a location we couldn't go on the given day. We arranged our own horse riding.

To date I have not received any communication and have not received my security deposit.

Owner cannot be trusted. He went on holiday himself and left neighbour to let us in. Heat and hot water only on for one hour in the morning. TV didn't work. We left two days early for the comfort of a hotel. To date, he has not returned my security deposit.

Owner's Response: Dear Maureen, Thank you for your recent review of Derry Quay Lodge. We are somewhat dismayed and disappointed by your review as it does not reflect the true and accurate events surrounding your stay. On arrival the first complaint from your party was that the house was too big for you and your party as there was just three of you. The house is advertised as a six bedroom family home capable of sleeping 14 people so you should have been under no illusion of the size of the house. The next morning you complained that there was not enough heat and hot water. I can be confident in saying that there was adequate heat and hot water for the size of the house which accommodates 14 people and also that the group that stayed just before you had no issue with the heat or hot water. I can also say that the hot water immersion is on 24 hours a day. Your request for more heat was immediately addressed by the lady who looks after the house while I am away. She turned the heat on to constant and all the radiators are thermostatically controlled so you would be able to adjust the heating yourself. The lady then lit the open fire as requested by your mother. You are correct in saying the tv did not work as one of the remote controls had gone missing. And on hearing there was a problem with the tv you were brought a replacement tv. On your review you said you left early for the comfort of hotel. On making your booking you informed me that you were staying in a hotel where the wedding was taking place on the night of the wedding as it was too far to travel back to the house. On returning to the house you informed me that you were departing early from the house so you could be close to family and friends who were staying at the hotel at no time did you mention any other reason for leaving early. May I also add that you cancelled your fishing trip just the day before you were due to go out with no reason given? I am not sure why you have stated I have not returned you security deposit as it was returned to you before this review was written. To finish I would say you should have booked a hotel as you expected the same level of service from a self-catering property.

Fast alles perfekt!

  • 5 of 5

Historical Cong

Cong, nestling on the shores of Lough Corrib offers a wealth of history and unspoilt natural beauty that once seen is never forgotten.

Spectacularly situated on the shores of Lough Corrib, Cong is one of the most beautiful and historic villages in Ireland. It owes its special character to its location on an island in the middle of the River Cong. It owes its name to the isthmus or 'narrows' from the Irish word cunga, which separates Lough Mask and Lough Corrib, two of the finest wild trout fisheries in Europe.

The rising of waters at Cong and the myriad of underground streams and Caverns beneath the area has captivated people for millennia. Congs strategic location has drawn hunter-gatherers, farmers, soldiers, kings, monks and adventurers for almost 7000 years.

There are many Archaeological sites & Caves to be discovered around Cong and the surrounding area that we would be happy to show you.
