Guestbook comments from the owner

December 2013

Dan, Neil, Becci & Si "Thank you for a lovely place to end a year and start another. Thanks also for helping us to find the saucepans (under the secret drawer under the oven). Apologies for the several fire alarms - we didn't even burn the sausages! The cottage was lovely and cosy and we've had a lovely trip."

Rachel James Aaron & Austin "a beautiful and most intricate cottage - wonderfully restored to a high standard. We enjoyed a lovely walk on Christmas Day and would also recommend a visit to Brockhole which we did on Boxing day. We had some gorgeous photos of Windermere and thoroughly enjoyed the boat ride there. We are certain that we will visit again. Thank you for all your help and recommendations, we felt very welcome.

The Locker family "Our first stay at the Lakes, we didn't know what to expect but we couldn't have asked for a cosier cottage! Ourselves, our two teenage children and our dog have been on some of the most wonderful walks ....

Perfect location.

We stayed for 3 nights at Woodland Cottage. This property, unlike most of the holiday lets we've stayed at over the years, actually exceeded our expectations. It was very quiet, clean, well-equipped and comfortable, yet within easy walking distance of Cartmel, which is a lovely village with shops and pubs. We brought our dog and so the enclosed, surprisingly large, garden was perfect. The walks from the cottage were varied and interesting, being enhanced by the wonderful local scenery, with hills, streams, rocky outcrops and an assortment of wildlife.

The only, very slight, negative for us (and this is down to personal preference of course) was the feather bedding, so bring your own pillows if you too are not a fan!

All my questions before and during booking were answered swiftly and fully by the owner, who popped in to check that everything was alright for us during our stay.

We would thoroughly recommend this cottage and intend to return in the near future, possibly encouraging some friends of ours to let the other cottage at the same time which is just up the road.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for these kind remarks, Sophia. Our guiding principle is to provide the kind of standard we would like to experience ourselves. As for the feather bedding, we have only recently made the transformation from synthetic filling for duvets and pillows, because of our personal preference as well as (hopefully) sustainability. Knowing people can have other preferences or indeed allergies, we provide one feather and one synthetic filled pillow for each occupant; on request we are ready to provide synthetic filled duvets and further synthetic pillows for any booking.

Perfectly charming and exceeding expectation

  • 5 of 5

Loved the cottage, it was so quaint and the photos online didn't do it as much justice as in reality.

The garden and setting was idyllic. Cottage was furnished in rustic style in keeping. Very clean and tidy
