About the Owner

Westruther Mains Farm is owned by Claire and Mark Bailey. Their two youing children were born and raised in this lovely family house which is situated just outside the village of Westruther. Having to spend more time away from home due to work commitments they decided it would make sense to share the house with others to enjoy it's wonderfully welcoming and homely feel.

review of Westruther farmhouse

  • 5 of 5

This is an extremely comfortable and well-appointed spacious farmhouse that we shared with another family. Plenty of room for everyone to spread out, lots of social space for adults and teenagers, indoor and outdoors - the games room was a popular feature. On a working farm, which added interest. Fully enclosed garden which made us feel secure about our dog. Very well equipped. A great place to stay - we have every intention of coming back.

Lovely family home in beautiful area

  • 5 of 5

A group of 8 of us have visitied the Borders area every year for the last 5 years. This year was the first time we've stayed at Westruther Mains Farm, and what a discovery! Mark and his family have clearly put a lot of thought into this lovely farmhouse. It's well maintained, thoughtfully set-up, warm, spacious and comfortable. The feel is one of genteel, understated quality. We're already looking forward to next year.

Stunning country house

  • 5 of 5

It was all we imagined and hoped for, and more. The house is beautiful and set in exceptionally well kept grounds. We flew over from Australia and wanted somewhere we could bring all my family together to enjoy our time. Westruther was perfect. So much room with every comfort considered. My 3 yr old son had his own play room, sand pit and trampoline. He was never bored and nor were we. Our days spent exploring the borders one day and Northumberland the next. Coming home to cook family meals on the Aga were a particular highlight. The local village pub was opened especially for us one day to enjoy what turned out to be amazing pub food. We had eggs delivered by the locals and discovered that sainsbury also do home delivery. What more could you want! My family and I have the most beautiful and treasured memories of staying in westruther so thanks to Mark Bailey for allowing us to share his wonderful family home. We will most certainly be back.

Borders are Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

We had a glorious week at the farmhouse the weather was superb and the house was just perfect for our group. The lambs were an entertainment in themselves. We started each day with a game of table tennis and ended with a meal at the Black Bull in Lauder. Everyone we met was friendly and our dog was always well looked after with bowls of water. Had lovely walks and lots of picnics. Visited Duns, Berwick, Jedburgh, played golf and shopped, what more could anyone want!! The owner was extremely helpful at the planning stage and we had a welcome bottle of wine and chocolates to greet us on arrival. The farmhouse is comfortable and roomy and very cosy. The spacious grounds allowed us to relax and play with no onlookers other than the odd pheasant passing through. The Jim Clark house in Duns is a must for enthusiasts. The borders of Scotland are well worth a visit if you enjoy scenery, walking and chatting with the locals. A car is essential but no need to travel far to enjoy the splendid walks, Abbeys, Stately Homes and historic towns.

Lovely family home

  • 5 of 5

We spent a long weekend at this lovely, spacious farmhouse - excellent accommodation and a beautiful garden with lots to do for the children. The instructions we received both before and on arrival were most helpful and very welcoming. We would definitely go back and would certainly recommend this to others, especially those with young children.

Lovely Peaceful Location

  • 5 of 5

Set in the border region of southern Scotland, the property is on a working dairy farm. The farmhouse is clean, warm and well equipped.

The gardens are extensive a well maintained. The village boasts a nice welcoming pub with shops a few miles drive away.

The property is within an hours drive of Edinburgh and the Northumberland coast. There are excellent local walks, with a variety of wildlife. I would definitely stay here again

Location

From the Owner

Having lived in London for many years we were drawn by the calm and peacefulness of this beautiful setting. The rolling borders countryside was certainly a major pull and all the oppotunities to explore and enjoy the outdoors and it's wildlife. Also being only an hours drive from Edinburgh the culture of the city is not too far away.
