Apartment in Medieval Saorge, Stunning View from Balcony, Baby Grand Piano

The apartment is in the beautiful village of Saorge, overlooking the Roya Valley. The village is considered to be one of the most beautiful Villages in France (see the Saorge web site) and has good road and rail connections with the coast (Ventimiglia and the Cote d'Azur) and Northern Italy (Cuneo etc.).

The flat has a small balcony and some stunning views. It is a small flat but very well equipped. When you look at the pictures you will notice that we have kept the original layout, the original tiles in the kitchen and the balcony, the original beams in the whole flat. The kitchen is fully equipped with new pots and pans and good quality china. There is a Baby Grand Piano in the living room that belonged to my mum, a musician, and that you are more than welcome to play. In the bedroom there's a double bed and in the bathroom (a shower and toilet room) there is a washing machine that you can use.

About the Owner

Hello, my name's Elisabetta, I'm Italian from my father's side and American from my mother's. After living in in different parts of the world, I settled down in Saorge, a beautiful mountain village in South-East France where in 2008 I met my husband Simon, a Londoner.

Our primary residence is now a stone house further up in the mountains, surrounded by 2 hectares of land at about a 20-minute walk from the village.

We love Saorge, the people who live there, the nature and we truly hope you too will enjoy the village and the apartment.

"Elisabetta's apartment in Saorge is an extraordinary place in an extraordinary setting. The flat is a superb "base of operations" for hiking in the Vallé Roya and Vallée des Merveilles and also a perfect place to spend a day reading on the sunny balcony. You'll likely want to rent a car to do some exploring, but there are also great hiking trails leaving directly from Saorge. Elsiabetta is the warmest host and eager to share her favorite places. Just ask! I'm certainly glad I did."

The apartment was bought in the year 2000. As soon as I walked in and I saw the balcony and the view, I fell in love with it; it is located in the heart of the village but it overlooks the valley and the river Roya.

Special interest holidays:

I have my own language learning service, The Language Tree, and I can give lessons to both adults and children if required. I specialize in intensive "Survival French and Italian" seminars. Prices for courses can be negotiated separately.

Hikes in the Mercantour Parc (see website), naturalist walks, photo workshops and guided tours of the area can be organised, as well.

Coast/Beach:

The nearest beaches are at Ventimiglia in Italy (30 mins) and we are only at a 40 minute drive from Menton, one of the loveliest resorts on the Cote d'Azur. The beaches are superb and the restaurants excellent - a real must if you are visiting this area.

Travel:

The nearest airport is Nice, which is well served by all the major airlines. It is approx. one hour drive away. The rail and bus service run from Nice to Saorge, and there are frequent trains to the coast and up into Italy. However, although car hire is not essential, it does enable you to visit all the many out-of the way places that make this area so special.

Distances:

We are in the village itself, which is an auto-free area. We are 2 mins from the car park. The whole area surrounding Saorge is both interesting and beautiful. We are on the edge of the Parc Mercantour, and it is well worth visiting the Parcs website.

A holiday in Saorge gives you the best of rural France, a taste of the Cote d'Azur and a glimpse of Italy!

Further Details:

The village has a pizzeria, a restaurant, 2 general shops, a bar tabac, a post office and a paper shop. It also has several boutiques. There are many lovely walks to be taken directly from the village and in the summer months there are concerts, both classical and rock at the monastery. The main fete is in August and runs for 4 days.

A £ 250 or € 300 refundable deposit is required (cheque or cash) -
We ask our guests to leave the flat as they found it, clean and ready for the next guests (we change the beds and provide clean towels) Should it be impossible or not convenient, the cleaning fee is between €30 and € 60. Depending on how much cleaning you are able and willing to do on your last day.

  • Notes on accommodation: This small but charming apartment is ideal for 2 people. There is a comfortable and stylish designer folding bed suitable for an extra guest, perfect for a child or young adult. The whole apartment is furnished and decorated to the best standard. Outside: There is a lovely balcony leading from the living room / kitchen. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Kitchenware, towels and linen are included: the property is cleaned at the end of each letting, the cleaning fees vary from € 30 to € 60. We are the proud owners of Janis and Joplin (two cats) yet the flat isn't suited for animals, but let'talk about it. Other: Small balcony with stunning view of the mountains and Roya river where you can enjoy your breakfast, tea or evening cocktail.
