Gorgeous apartment in Central Bayonne, France

Gorgeous flat, located in the heart of Bayonne centre. The flat is situated directly next to the beautiful iconic Cathedrale de Sainte-Marie de Bayonne. You can wake up to beautiful views of the church every day. Bayonne is a charming little town, with everything at your footstep - shops, cafes, the river (a 2 min walk away), a charming little park. Bayonne is 15 minutes by bus/car to the beach, and only half an hour from Spain!

The flat itself is 59 sq. m. in size, with a very large and airy living room with views of the cathedral and cobbled street outside. There are several car parks within 5-10 minutes walk from the apartment, which are not very costly. The flat is in a lovely old stone building c1800, on the ground floor with its own entrance to the street.

Why Zoe Bloom chose Cote Basque - Biarritz area

I bought this flat in central Bayonne 5 years ago as I fell in love with South West France and the Basque Country back in the late 1970's. I particularly like Bayonne as it is a lovely old town with a life of its own, but it is not far from the sea or the mountains.

What makes this apartment unique

As the flat is right in the middle of town, the large number of shops, restaurants and cafes are all within walking distance. Despite being central the flat is in a quiet side street with very little noise at night.

It has lots of character, being in an old stone building in the picturesque and well preserved historic centre of the town.

Activity and Interests

Special interest holidays:

Ideal base for walking holidays in the beautiful countryside nearby.

Coast/Beach:

There are easily accessible beaches at Biarritz and Anglet, both reachable in under 30 mins by bus. Beaches are wide and sandy, swimming is possible in certain areas, these have lifeguards in the summer. There are plentiful showers, toilets and places to eat and drink. There are several surf schools dotted along the Anglet beach.

Travel:

Biarritz is the closest airport, about 7km away and is served by local buses to/from the apartment. Ryanair and EasyJet fly there from various UK airports. Pau, Bordeaux and Bilbao airports are within 2 hours drive on the motorway. The nearest A63 motorway junctions are 5km away (either north or south). The railway station is 15 minutes walk from the apartment or a short bus ride. There are direct TGV's to/from Paris Montparnasse (about 5h00).

Further Details:

Bayonne is a beautiful medieval town much favoured by the French for their own holidays. Much pleasure can be gained from wandering the narrow cobbled streets in the centre, or admiring the river views from the banks of the Nive and Adour. There are many interesting shops selling local food or arts and crafts. Chocolate making is a tradition in Bayonne and there are several artisan chocolate shops.

Because of the the proximity to Spain and the sea, the Spanish influence in the food is very noticeable and seafood is affordable and popular.

Ideal base for a beach or walking holiday.
