Cottage Near Kingsbridge and Salcombe, Sleeps 5.

Overview

Property

Updated: 27-Nov-2016
Cottage in Frogmore, near Kingsbridge, Devon. Close to water, shop and pub

Hollytree Cottage is a roomy three-bedroomed terraced house. There is a through lounge\dining-room and a separate kitchen on the ground floor. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms and one single, and a bathroom\toilet. The sleeping accommodation comprises one double and three single beds. A further single bed, a folding bed and a baby travel cot can be arranged if required. The kitchen has a full-size electric cooker, fridge-freezer, automatic washing machine, microwave cooker and a good range of crockery and cutlery. Heating is by electric convectors and storage heaters, and there is an open coal fire. There is a Freeview catch-up TV and DVD player. Free WiFi is included. Outside the Cottage has a front garden and an enclosed rear courtyard/patio, and there is plenty of space for parking in the lane at the front.

We can accept one family small pet dog, for an additional charge of £25 per week.

Frogmore is a lovely little village at the head of one of the 'fingers' of the Kingsbridge Estuary. From the Cottage, turn left out of the front door and it is just over 100 metres to the slipway and the tidal creek. Walk across the stone bridge and across the road to the shop and Bakery. The Bakery is particularly popular, with everything baked on the premises. You can also but milk, papers and a few other essentials. Another couple of minutes walk to The Globe pub and restaurant. This is very popular and serves a good range of food, both lunchtimes and evenings.

Frogmore provides an excellent base for beaches, boating and sailing, walking on the South Devon Coast Path or on Dartmoor, visiting historic towns such as Totnes and Dartmouth, enjoying the many local activity centres, or simply relaxing around the beautiful countryside and stunning coastline. Few villages in south Devon are as well located for choice.

The next village of East Charleton has a petrol station and comprehensive shop, which combines ironmongers, grocers, newsagents, garden store, and DIY needs (although you might not need of these!) .

The market town of Kingsbridge is just three miles away and has a good selection of shops, galleries, stores, cafes and restaurants. Both Tescos and Morrisons have good supermarkets in the Town.

The famous fishing and sailing town of Salcombe is about 20 minutes by car, or quicker by boat!

For beaches, try the sandy coves around East Portlemouth, which are about a 15 minute drive. The coves are lovely and you can set up camp on the beach, and then pop across to Salcombe on the passenger ferry, which runs continuously through the day and takes about 5 minutes. If you are a National Trust Member you can park your car for free at the Mill Bay capark - but get there early in the summer weeks ! There are other places to park as well.

Other beaches are at Torcross, North and South Sands at Salcombe, Blackpool Sands and Bigbury.

For other pastimes, there is sailing and kayaking at Salcombe or Bowcombe Creek (between Frogmore and Kingsbridge), a leisure centre and tennis at Kingsbridge, the children's Woodland Leisure Park on the road to Totnes. There is the old steam railway centre at Buckfastleigh, as well as the Abbey and visitors centre.

If you have particular interests then please let us know and we will try our best to guide you.

Hollytree Cottage, Frogmore

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Hollytree Cottage - it was a real home from home. The property was very well equipped, spotlessly clean and in an ideal location to explore the surrounding area. We would definitely recommend this cottage and would love to return in the future. The owners were very helpful and the cottage booking procedure and information pack was excellent.

Lovely cottage

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely stay in the cottage in the last week of August. The cottage itself is lovely, the rooms are really spacious and well decorated. Theres a smart TV with a DVD player which came in very handy when it rained!

The cottage is situated in a small village with a bakery and you can easily drive to nearby towns and villages. Would definitely stay again - thank you for a lovely week!

Peaceful haven.

  • 5 of 5

We love this cottage. It is so peaceful, being situated at the end of a pretty creek and near to coastal path walks. There is a lovely bakery in the village and the pub does amazing food. The cottage is an ideal bolt hole for couples or families.

Clean, comfortable and good value.

  • 4 of 5

Lovely little cottage in pleasant village near to Kingsbridge in the glorious South Hams. Cottage is clean, comfortable and nicely-decorated. Well equipped, modern kitchen. Price in July/August was very reasonable for Devon. Owners helpful and efficient. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are already pondering the possibility of a return visit. Only downside for our growing family of three children (including 2 teenagers) was the dining table, which couldn't really accomodate 5. Another easy chair in the living room would also be beneficial. That being said, this is about the best value we have ever experienced during school holidays in the West Country.

Location

From the Owner

We first visited Frogmore and the 'South Hams' around Salcombe when we were teenagers and, as soon as we had the opportunity to have our own family holiday cottage, we bought this one, over 20 years ago. We have been letting it to holidaymakers for most of that time, and we are really pleased that we have some regular visitors that come back year after year. We visit ourselves whenever we get the opportunity, and our children and grandchildren also have grown to love the Cottage and the surroundings.
