We really enjoyed ourselves. Pool was used daily and the loungers and covered area by the pool was great. Saturday market at St Foy was very good, other than that and a dinner at Le Grand Cep in Monsegur, we didn't venture far. Barbecue worked well and the coals and lighters were appreciated. Again, these often aren't available at other places. The welcome pack was very good and I would normally have expected to pay for that level of provision. Milk, bread, butter, jam, ham, cheese, beer, wine, ice tea, juice, water, tea, coffee, sugar included. Deems provided an excellent gooey pasta dish and salad. Much appreciated. The extras like foil, cling film, dishwasher tablets were really useful. The information packs and 'what to do' folders are excellent.

Exceeded expectations. Property and garden very well equipped. Welcome pack was best we have had in the four years of staying in gites. Excellent location. Property looked after by English speaking couple only 30 mins away, who also provide meals, if need be. Didn't want to come home! Village had small supermarket, but there were larger ones close by. Also had bar/restaurant - the food was basic but good. Another bar at the other end of the village.

When we did prise ourselves out of the garden, we had walks along the river, into the village. Our list of places to go was scrapped, as we knew the area quite well and ended up chilling in the wonderful garden/pool. Stay here, it is great.

Fantastic, relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in a beautiful setting offering peace and quiet. Views of the river are fantastic, good walking and lots to visit if you can drag yourself away from the Gitte. Excellent local shops and restaurants. What's not to love! Coming back??? Absolutely

Spacious, relaxing, away from the crowds

  • 4 of 5

The Gite was marvellous. With teenage boys we really appreciated the space, both inside and out. The massive garden was an excellent football and cricket pitch and the pool wonderful. We also made good use of the proximity to the river and caught some lovely fish - Ste Foy fishing shop fixed us up with permits and bait. The covered eating area was much used for breakfast and dinner. My wife had the misfortune to break her ankle, after slipping at one of the Cro-Magnon dwellings in the Vezere valley - Perigueux hospital provided first class treatment and we discovered that the Gite is also very well designed for wheelchair access. We would also highly recommend the restaurant in the village - great food, good price and very friendly.

Riverside Retreat

  • 4 of 5

Property has a very peaceful setting alongside the river and plenty of facilities to help make for a very enjoyable and relaxing stay. The service was excellent with a food package very convenient if you are a late arrival or get there on Sunday or Monday when many local shops are shut. It is a good base from which to explore the region.

Gite de la Vette was fabulous, and lived up to all our expectations. The location was great, peace and quiet and the garden was fantastic.

The Gite was really comfortable and had everything we could possibly need. In fact, I would add that it is the best equipped gite we have ever stayed in!

We loved the shutters, we think they are amazing, the pool was great. The view of the river from the house was so nice. We could not find any fault really.

It was a good location for site seeing too.

We would recommend this property to family and friends and hope to return ourselves sometime.

Thanks to Jacek & Elaine for arranging our stay at short notice.

Well located

  • 4 of 5

We spent 2 weeks at the Gite de la Vette. The Gite is situated in a quiet road in very attractive grounds. Great for families especially those with dogs as the grounds are totally secure. We were lucky that the plum tree was full of very tasty fruit! The Gite is on the banks of the Dordogne river close to the village. Also well situated to visit local towns such as Bergerac and St Emilion. A large supermarket is close enough and there is a small shop in the village. There is a good pool with sun loungers. The villa itself has all that is needed. There is also the option of food being prepared by the couple who look after the gite for the owners. The curries especially were excellent and highly recommended. At the end of a long drive there or a day out sightseeing it was a great boon.

Gite de la Vette is ideally situated between St Foy Le Grande and Bergerac on bank of the Dordogne river.

Gite de la Vette is a spacious gite set in just under two acres of fully enclosed garden with gated access to the river Dordogne.

It is the perfect place to chill out and enjoy the sun by the pool, visit the local wineries or be adventurous and explore the beautiful towns and countryside of the Dordogne.

The Gite is only 1.5 km from the small village of Le Fleix, 7km from Ste Foy Le Grande, 20km from Bergerac & 40km from St. Emilion.

Bergerac is a pleasant provincial town with cobbled squares and alleyways. There are numerous pavement cafes to enjoy an aperitif or sample many of the local delicacies such as Fois Gras & truffles. From the Old Port you can take a river trip in a replica Gabares or enjoy the local market on a Wednesday or Saturday

This region of south west France is famous for its river and grand chateaux. Its long history results in countless prehistoric caves including 25 with paintings, the most famous being the Lascaux caves which are about 1 hr 40 mins west from the gite.

Near to the Gite there are plenty of opportunities to go cycling, canoeing, or play tennis. Also there are numerous places of interest to visit that cater for all tastes i.e. the Grand Chateaux, pre-historic caves & the Medieval Bastides such as Eymet, Lalinde or Issigeac.

Monbazilliac (30 mins)

Further afield

You could head to the west coast to Arcachon bay which has the Dune de Pilat (Pyla) nearby which is the largest sand dune in Europe at over 100m high, they are about 2 hours away but worth a day trip. We would recommending climbing the dune using the steps which are there in the summer season, if you go right down to the beach as it is hard work walking back up the dune. There is a beach at Arcachon which is 15 mins away from the dune. You can get a boat trip around the bay which runs several time a day which is worth doing. There are some good beaches along that coast.

In addition to St Emilion with its numerous wineries, the nearby Monbazilliac chateau is worth a visit and maybe take in a tour, it is famous for its sweet wines.

There is an 18 hole golf course at les Vigiers which also has a two restaurants and a spa and offers beuty treatments, it is about 15 mins from the gite.
