About the Owner

I live in England with my wife Judith, and have always love France and the lifestyle. I'm a interior designer/musician and my wife a solicitor (a lethal combination). Although semi-retired now we made a lot a friends since we bought the farm back in 1989 with a view of retiring here while running the holiday gites. The surrounding fields which came with the buildings, were ideal for us to live "the good life".

July 2012.Gite 2. Spalding family.

"we love staying here, the gites are comfortable and homely. The gites are equipped with all the equiptment you would find at home. The gites are presented well. The large lawn at the rear you will see the roe deer in the fields, along with the birds of prey. Lanes for walking or biking.

with the town not far away for shopping, the swimming pool, cafés boating, local market and with a main road running north south along the coast, lots of great beaches."

Sept 2012. Gite 3. Roger Rogowski

"we've stayed here for a total of 9 weeks over the the last 4 years for a good reason! This very well equipped furnished and decorated property is easy to get to from St Malo or the Normandy ports and is very good base to explore the Morbihan & beyond. Superb beaches are a short drive away. Located at the end of a quiet lane but only 10mins from La Roche & 25mins from Vannes. It's also a great place to relax, fire up the barbecue and open a bottle of wine or two.

From the Owner

It was a working dairy farm, a throw-back to the middle ages when I bought it in 1989, gites 2&3 were cattle barns. It's location and potential we're fantastic having oak beams, stone walls and country aspect, yet near beaches and the wonderful historic town of La Roche Bernard, which enchanted me after my first views while driving over the suspension bridge. I knew instantly this was the place for me after spending month's looking around other areas of France.

There are lots to see and do in the area.

La Roche Bernard, a very pretty historic town of character, with cobbled streets containing 15th and 16th century buildings overlooking the river Villaine, has modern facilities including supermarkets, as well a wealth of bars restaurants, creperies; indeed the Auberge Bretagne, is famous as being one of the best restaurants in France.

There is of course a boating mariner and the restaurant boat which travels along the Villaine while you enjoy dinner. Advance bookings necessary.

Thursday the centre is overtaken by the market, with alot of local produce for sell. Well worth a visit.

Local attractions include the wildlife park at Barnfaire, and the 'Scary' Pre-historic theme park (with life size dinosaurs lurking in the woods) near the granite village of Rochefort on terre, which itself is worth visiting.

Horse riding is available just a short walk down the lane(you'll pass it as you come to the gites). They have horses of all sizes, and ponies for the little ones.

The walled historic town of Guerande and all it's attractions along with resort town La baule (known as the Monte Carlo of the north)are about 1/2 hours drive away.

From the Owner

The benefits of this property were that it is at the end of a lane, surrounded by fields, meadows, country lanes for cycling and walking. We had small children and we felt it was safe for them to play and explore without the worry of passing traffic, and there is enough land to play football etc. without annoying anybody. I knew the river was good for fishing and there was a good golf course nearby, plus all the local attractions highlighted earlier. There are many fine restaurants, and eateries to suite everyone nearby. Being a musician I've enjoyed the live music which appears regularly in the beautifully restored theatre(now a brassiere/bar) Sarah B,(after Sarah Bernhart) and other bars around the towns and villages. Indeed I've made many friends, and they are always there to help.
