Fisherman’s Cottage In Excellent Location In Old Part of Appledore

Overview

Property

Updated: 20-Nov-2016
Ideal location; centre of village; 25 yds off Quay; 2 bedrooms; very near small shops & amenities.

Mariners Cottage has 2 bedrooms, one double and one twin, and is just a few yards from the Quay. Shops, pubs and restaurants and a tea room are only a few moments walk away. The cottage is available all the year round and is cosy and comfortable with free central heating in winter months. We use it ourselves regularly. In Appledore most of the small streets lead down to the Quay, which provides delightful views across the river to Instow, and at which fishing boats tie up and sell their fish. Sailing, fishing, boating, bird watching on the Burrows, water-skiing and windsurfing, take place in the estuary and the bay, and trips may be made to Lundy from Bideford. Within easy reach are sandy and surfing beaches, the Tarka trail, beautiful wilderness on Exmoor, two classical golf courses, rugged coastline for walking. Bideford with a wider range of shops and a large supermarket, is 3 miles away, and there is an indoor pool two miles away in Northam and tennis in Westward Ho!

Had a lovely time - a very comfortable and enjoyable stay in a very nicely furnished cottage. Lovely places to visit and friendly locals. Walks on the Burrows gave great excuses for Hockings ice creams (best we have ever tasted) and skate park for the youngest made for a most enjoyable stay.

(Note: MCT&T booked again for Aug 2012 and have booked twice for 2013)

Dear Rosemary & Bill

Just a quick note to say how much we enjoyed our stay at Mariners Cottage .What a lovely cosy little cottage .Everything was clean ,neat & tidy with everything you could need .The weather was glorious , we managed 2 bike trips, Barnstaple & Torrington (30miles), walks to Bideford,& a complete circuit of Braunton Burrows dunes , a rail trip to Exmouth (great value for money) & 5 nights of singing and live entertainment in local pubs. We will be back!

lovely cottage

Mariners cottage was the perfect base for our stay in north devon.Well equipped and clean . Appledore is a delightful place to stay, The beaver inn a short walk away offered lovely food and has cornish rattlers on draught which made it the perfect place to eat out on a number of occasions. We look forward to staying here again

Cosy and comfortable cottage

  • 3 of 5

The cottage was cosy and comfortable with a perfect location, 2 minutes from the quay side. The kitchen was well equipped and property was well maintained.

Appledore was a great base to explore the surrounding area and as we had amazing weather we hit the beach most days (Woolacombe was our favourite). Thoroughly recommend the pubs in Appledore especially the Seagate which had fantastic food and drink.

Excellent recent holiday

  • 5 of 5

We have just enjoyed a great week at this cottage in Appledore. The cottage was very clean and well stocked. Great to have a bath as we only have a shower at home now. Great location near the quay, we took our cups of tea and breakfast down and sat on the benches watching the world go by. Hockings ice cream highly recommended. Would recommend Susie's tearoom. Had roast Sunday dinner at The Prince George and enjoyed all our purchases from John's. Caught the bus to Bideford and Barnstaple and would certainly use the bus again next time we visit the Cottage, took the stress out of looking for car parks etc. We now wonder why we have never visited Appledore before but we will be back hopefully in the Autumn.

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: Regret no pets. Parking is free on the Quay and on roads leading to and from the Quay. It does become busy there during the high season, in which case there is a large council car park about 100 yds away, also on the Quay, which almost always has ample room. We have never known it full. Daily and weekly tickets are available. Although there is no parking at the cottage, you can drive up about 30 yards from the Quay and stop outside the cottage to unload. You can then either continue up the lane and turn right at the top (tight turn if the car is large) or, as I do, reverse back to the Quay. Outside: Very small walled yard with dustbins and short clothes line. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Duvets and all bed linen are provided, as are kitchen towels. Regret that bath towels are not provided.
