Large Old Character Cottage in Llangollen, North Wales - Overlooking A Beautiful Park And The River Dee

This large detached historic cottage overlooks a beautiful park and the River Dee. It is the only large holiday cottage in within a short walking distance of the town centre and attractions. Llangollen with its unique mix of shops, heritage steam railway, horse-drawn canal boat trips & The Royal Pavilion that hosts The International Eisteddfod and year round shows & events. It is only 25 minutes from the historic city of Chester, 60 minutes from Betws-y-Coed and the coast. Llangollen nestles in a valley surrounded by mountains and it’s geography has preserved it’s special features limiting expansion and safeguarding it’s designation as a Site of Special Interest and Area of Outstanding Beauty classification. North Wales enjoys more sun than Cornwall and less rain than the Lake District so it is no wonder that this gateway to North Wales should be so popular with sightseers and walkers of all ages. Fantastic cottage, perfect for big groups.

  • 5 of 5

Organised a large group party of 13 people - fitted everyone in perfectly in all of the rooms. It was like a rabbit warren! Living rooms were great to chill out in - having Sky TV was a great bonus. The large dining table was perfect for meal times, and we had arranged a wine tasting too which it was ideal for. The music system was brilliant! All towels and heating included which was a great bonus. Easy to find and parking for 4 cars was brilliant. Malcolm who welcomed us was so helpful and the added extra 'welcome package' was such a thoughtful addition! The extra apartment on the end was a godsend - my mum stayed there with my little baby girl as I am still feeding her! All in all, a great cottage for a large group or family to stay in. We're already booked for the next stay!

Property was clean, it is an older property, but it is well looked after.

We all enjoyed our stay in this comfy type cottage, that slept 17 in comfort for a 60th birthday, nice clean bed linen and towels, great dining room, very handy for the town, it's just a lovely 5 min walk by the river Dee and park both of which are just across the road from the cottage, nice size tv and wifi .........as the saying goes....... we'll be back!

Llangollen itself has many natural wonders there are mountains, the famous Horseshoe Pass, white water rivers, including the spectacular River Dee, the canal with horse-drawn boats, the Llangollen Steam Railway. Impressive structures, gardens and historic buildings abound. Plas Newydd, home to The Ladies of Llangollen is on the edge of town while two National Trust properties are just a few miles away and the town has the highest and longest aqueduct on the canal system, the Pontcysyllte aqueduct, built by Thomas Telford in 1805. You can cross it by narrow boats which depart from The Wharf in Llangollen for a 3-hour return trip and marvel at the engineering which took the Llangollen canal from the Horseshoe Falls all the way to join the national canal system. You can also take a horse-drawn boat from The Wharf up to near its source at Horseshoe Falls. Both trips are a cheap and very enjoyable way of seeing the countryside.

From Llangollen you can visit all that that North Wales has to offer with day trips, Snowdonia National Park, Bodnant Gardens, slate mines, spectacular coastline, Castles a plenty, there is so much to see and do.
