About the property

Cottage in Bircher, Nr. Leominster, Herefordshire, England - Ideal Walking And Cycling Base

This is a timber framed cottage, with bathroom extension. The cottage is situated down a quiet country lane in the hamlet of Bircher. The nearby villages of Yarpole and Orleton are within walking distance and both have thriving village shops (Yarpole community shop is in the church), churches and traditional pubs. There are a wealth of footpaths in the area as well as long distance footpaths. The Mortimer Trail and Offa's Dyke path are both within reach. The area is one of rolling hills and agricultural land, in one of the most beautiful areas of the Welsh Marches.

About Mary Walter

Gatehouse Cottage belonged to my grandparents, and was passed down to my Mother and then to myself. It was originally a farm workers cottage, and my Mother remembered the 6 children who were brought up in the small cottage with no running water or electricity.

My husband and I moved to Herefordshire when he retired and now manage the cottage for holiday lets. We live about 8 miles away so can readily attend to changeovers and deal with any problems.

What makes this cottage unique

Although the cottage is on a quiet lane, it is close to several highways, and you can travel north, south, east and west with ease, without having to retrace your steps. The garden is a delight and can be enjoyed at all times of the year.

An Excellent Cottage in a Lovely area

  • 5 of 5

The timber-framed old cottage is very cosy and a pleasure to spend time in. It's placed within a lovely area and the village/hamlet is spread out and has a relaxed feel about it.

My only negative point is the lack of internet, as it's so useful to be able to look up places to visit, restaurants etc.

We were very pleasantly surprised by the lovely countryside and nearby well preserved old villages.

Charming cottage in peaceful area

  • 5 of 5

We had the pleasure of spending a week at the cottage in June. The weather was glorious so we spent many hours in the beautiful quiet garden when not out exploring the area. The cottage was clean, warm and characterful and was equipped with everything we needed. Would definitely recommend!

Charming cottage in a peaceful spot

  • 5 of 5

We had the pleasure of staying in this lovely little cottage for a week in June. We were very lucky to have glorious weather which meant we spent hours in the fabulous peaceful garden when not out exploring the area. The cottage itself was characterful, clean & equipped with everything we needed. I would definitely recommend the cottage!
