Cottage in Low Row, Swaledale, Yorkshire, England - Village Location, Easy Access To Award Winning Pub.

South View is a Grade II listed cottage located within the village of Low Row, in heart of dramatic Swaledale, one of Yorkshire’s most beautiful dales. The cottage has marvellous views and is ideally located for all year round walking, cycling, leisurely motoring or just relaxing by the log burning stove or in the garden with a glass of wine. The awarding winning Punch Bowl Inn is 100m walk away from the cottage. Reeth, with its pubs, shops, cafes and tearooms, is 3 miles away. The charming market towns of Richmond and Barnard Castle are half an hour’s drive away. York, Whitby, Harrogate and County Durham are all within striking distance. The light and airy, character cottage has been renovated to a high standard. The cottage is comfortably furnished and there is a well equipped kitchen. The bedrooms, sleeping 3, can be used flexibly. We welcome couples, small families and groups of friends. Sorry, no pets. No smoking.

About the Owner

We came to live in Swaledale for work and have stayed. We bought South View when it was unloved and in a state of disrepair. We have restored it to provide comfortable accommodation for our family, as well as guests. As we live here full time, we are able to advise our guests about the best places to visit and walk. We are also on hand to ensure South View is well maintained. We have lived here for over ten years and still think Swaledale is the most beautiful of all the Yorkshire dales.

Highly recommended

We had a lovely stay in Swaledale. The cottage was cosy and well-appointed and had everything we needed. The location is excellent (being so near to the Punch Bowl pub/restaurant is a plus!), with good walking nearby and very varied bird life. We would highly recommend the property.

Having never been to this area we were overwhelmed by its beauty. The cottage was delightful, very comfortable and well equipped. Where we originally intended to go into York, we decided that, as we only had a week, we would make the most of the beautiful walks from the cottage. Bolton Castle and Richmond Castle are well worth visiting and about the furthest that we travelled from home. The Punchbowl Inn was just a few yards away and we went in there several times! So convenient and very nice indeed.

We very much appreciated the homemade flapjacks and bottle of wine left by the owners for our arrival. Everybody was so friendly and we will definitely be going back next year - can't wait!

Further Details:

Swaledale is wonderful to visit at any time of the year, but the best time to see the hay meadows is May/June and for the heather, August. The music and arts Swaledale Festival is held annually from the late May Bank holiday weekend for two weeks in a variety of historic venues. The Reeth agricultural show is held in the last week of August and the Muker show is held in the first week of September. The Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle has a wonderful arts collection and a great café, ideal for a visit on wet day. Teesdale provides even more unspoilt walking. Hazel Brow Farm visitor centre in Low Row itself, the Wensleydale Creamery in Hawes, the Forbidden Corner, the Wensleydale Railway and the Settle/Carlisle railway are good for family outings. There is a specialist mountain biking centre in Fremington. A mobile fish and chip van visits Low Row on most Fridays at approx 6.30pm.
