About the Owner

We are Debbie & Darren Morrison and the adventure started back in 2005 when we made the decision to move to the Sarthe, Pays de la Loire in France. A need to store and transport all our furniture to France led us to stumble upon Barry Sheene’s DAF Race Transporter from the 1980s. Once we had unpacked all our furniture (took us quite a while as the house needed quite a bit of work first!) we decided to convert the transporter into living accommodation and restore the cab back to its 1983 Team Suzuki livery so that we could offer an unusual and unique holiday experience.

Amazing two weeks

  • 5 of 5

We've just returned from a two week stay at The Pitstop; it's been amazing from start to finish. Debbie and Darren are wonderful hosts and the transporter has been lovingly transformed into cosy accommodation with everything you need from a small functional kitchen to sky TV and a tailgate that has been turned into a fab decking area overlooking the lake. Whether, like us, you're a petrol head who can sit and imagine who has passed through the transporter over the years it was used by Barry or if you are just looking for a peaceful get away in a gorgeous area - look no further, this great place will provide you with an amazing break whether it's one night or two weeks. Highly recommended.

Barry Sheen's Idyllic Pad

  • 5 of 5

We've just spent 4 nights B & B on Debbie and Darren's beautiful farm, but this accommodation is one with an amazing twist !! It's only former british world motorcycling champion Barry Sheen's transporter, turned into a most luxurious gaff, pitched on the side of a beautiful lake. With wonderful views, and All modern amenities at hand, this is an ideal tranquil base, to either explore the wonderful countryside, or just chill with a good book and a glass of (complimentary) wine . We used it as our base for the Le Mans 24hr race, which was only 30 minutes away....perfect

Would recommend to anyone. You won't be disappointed !!

I came across the Sheene Pitstop when searching Owners Direct last November for accommodation for the 2014 French MotoGP at Le Mans. At that stage, no reviews had been written for it, but as my wife and I are huge bike racing fans, I was sold on it as soon as I seen it. I checked availability and it was free to book for that weekend, we looked forward to it excitedly. Communication via email with Darren for Deposit etc was straightforward and friendly.

We looked forward to our stay even more when we read the previous reviews that appeared, and they were not wrong. This place truly is a little bit of paradise in the enchanting French countryside. The truck itself lived up to all our expectations and more, with a comfortable pull out double bed, kitchen, toilet and not forgetting the table and chairs on the tailgate. outside there is a picnic table under the awning where we ate dinner every night as the weather was superb. As the light went down, the lake and it's wildlife came alive, I found this extremely relaxing and would go to bed feeling invigorated.

As hosts, Debbie and Darren couldn't have done more in my opinion, from the fresh croissants, bread, orange juice and their own free range eggs, supplied daily, to the complimentary beer and wine also supplied on a daily basis. We opted to have the BBQ pack one evening and we were given a choice of four desserts to choose from. We chose the pavlova, and as well as having the BBQ meat awaiting us in the truck fridge when we got back from the racing, Debbie had also baked the pavlova and made salad and potato salad as well to compliment our dinner, all of which was delicious.

The only downside to our stay at the Sheene Pitstop was that due to motorcycling to Le Mans everyday for the MotoGP, we didn't get to spend more time at this magical place, so we have already decided to return sometime to do just that. Cannot recommend this property enough, whether for Motorsport fans or nature lovers.

We spent an amazing evening at this magical place. The photo's don't do it justice it is heaven and so peaceful. The owners have thought of your every need including a welcome pack on arrival. The back of the trailer reaches out over the lake where as the sun goes down you see all kinds of wildlife. We asked for a bbq pack for dinner and received a banquet of yummy home cooked food as well as a variety of meats to bbq we would highly recommend this place.

Totally Unique

  • 5 of 5

We booked into Barry Sheen's trailer for an overnight stop whilst traveling down to SW France. You would have seen the photos online - it's everything you see and more!

We were a party of two adults and three teenagers aged between 16 and 18. Whilst the trailer is compact (you are in the back of a lorry after all!) it was more than spacious enough. It has a small kitchen area and a toilet as well as full sized comfy beds. We also had private use of a large bathroom in one of the outbuildings which had a great power shower. Towels and bedding was also included in the price.

The trailer is parked in a beautiful tranquil location next to a large fishing lake. As the sun set the trees lit up a stunning amber colour. Outside there is plenty of space to play badminton or throw a rugby ball around and there's a picnic table & benches where we ate our evening meal. We then sat round on rocker chairs to relax and watch the various birds settling down for the night.

Our host produced a wonderful meal. Really tasty, well cooked, nicely presented and plenty of it, really appreciated by three hungry teenagers! The food and accommodation is incredibly good value for money in our opinion.

In the morning the kids had a rude awakening as we hoisted up the shutter doors at the back of the lorry to let the sunlight stream in! The lake looked stunning as the mist arose from it and the ducks swam over to see us whilst a Kingfisher perched on a branch just 20m away. We sat out on the tailgate, which hangs over the lake, and had breakfast - which again was plentiful.

The ownership of the trailer is authenticated with a framed copy of the original log book and where the trailer has been restored to its original team colours it looks fabulous! Our hosts were great and it should be really appreciated that they are willing to allow others to share in this truly unique experience!
