About the property

Coach House in Mere, Wiltshire, England (near Dorset and Somerset borders) - Good Location For Day Trips To Surrounding Counties

Coach House is situated in the beautiful town of Mere, ideally located behind the medieval Castle Hill where Mere Castle once stood. With shops, pubs, parks and rolling countryside all within walking distance The Coach House is ideal for your holiday. Situated in the old part of the town our nearest pub is a 2 minute walk away, and a quick walk up Castle Hill will enable you to take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding three counties (Wiltshire, Dorset and Somerset). There are many attractions within an hours drive from the property. Take a trip into Salisbury and visit one of England's best Cathedrals, or submerge yourself in the world of Austen by spending a day in Bath with its stunning Georgian Architecture and the famous Roman Baths. A 20 minute drive will take you to the impressive Longleat (and safari park), home to the Marquess of Bath, and there are numerous National Trust properties nearby, (the closest being Stourhead) - many of which have been used as film locations and all steeped in English history and charm.

The Coach House consists of kitchen, dining room, sitting room, downstairs w.c. and utility cupboard (washer/dryer) - upstairs there are two bedrooms (one double and one twin) and a bathroom with shower head attachment. Outside there is off road parking for one vehicle, a patio and a small fenced/gated garden. There is wifi at the property.

About Helen Watts

Helen works in the performing arts as a director and writer, and Brian is an architect.

Helen Watts purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Helen Watts chose Mere

Originally from Shaftesbury we were looking for our first home together. When we bought Long Hill House no one had lived in the nearby coach house since the coachman and coach (mud floors, hayloft etc). It took us three years to extend and convert - and we love it!

What makes this cottage unique

It's a home from home close to lots of attractions.

Practical, comfortable and simple tasteful decor

  • 4 of 5

Helen met us and was not phased at all by our boisterous twins and daughter. The house was very practical for our needs although , as it was cold, it would have been nice to have the heating on before arrival. Only one other point to make. The double bed had a base as well as headboard meaning for anyone ove 6 feet ( my son ) it was not comfortable. However the stay was very enjoyable.

Fantastic Cottage!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely 2 night stay at the Coach House. The cottage had everything you could possible need!! We walked down to the George Inn pub on the first night and had a lovely meal, and on the second night we tried the Walnut Inn, which again was lovely.

The cottage is extremely well equipped, especially for younger visitors. We travelled with a 12 year old and a 15 month old and they were both more than comfortable. Even down to having a baby sleeping bag and blankets provided in the travel cot.

I can highly recommend staying in this cottage!! Thank you Helen for a lovely stay.

Perfectly placed for Longleat trip, a comfortable, well equipped character cottage

  • 4 of 5

The beds and floor boards were a little creaky but this added to the character. Great stay in a lovely little cottage. Very friendly and helpful hosts.

Cosy, quaint, clean.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time, nothing was too much trouble for Helen.

A lovely lady. Gave us a lot of information about the places to visit.

Private parking was a bonus.

Thank you Helen for introducing us to Leon and Vanessa, that really made our holiday. Hopefully, we will be back one day.
