About Julie Bone

I live in Hathersage with my husband and three teenage boys. I grew up in this lovely village but moved away and returned with my family 9 years ago.

Julie Bone purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Julie Bone chose Hathersage

I love this area hence the reason for my return. It is a very friendly and welcoming village surrounded by the beautiful landscape of the Peak District. Hathersage is in the heart of this beautiful countryside but so close to the surrounding villages and a short easy journey will get you into Sheffield

What makes this cottage unique

Maple Cottage is a traditional cottage so close to all the amenities that Hathersage has to offer. It is surrounded by so many walks that suit all types of abilities along with some stunning views of area like Stanage Edge

You shouldn't miss it if you are looking for a cozy stay in great location

  • 4 of 5

Personally prefer Hathersage to Bakewell. It is less touristy and more to see in the North Peak District. Really like this stone cottage, which is within walking distance to Hathersage train station and the main road. Julie is really nice, quick to respond, flexible with check-in and check-out time. She also prepared family made cakes and they were fabulous! The cottage has everything we need, probably the kind of dream place I have longed to stay. We also got discount dining at Julie's cafe. All perfect! Definitely wanna come back again!

Comfortable and cosy

  • 5 of 5

A nice place finished to a good standard. Clean, warm and comfortable - note the bed may not be quite long enough if you're over 6'3"! Well-equipped but bring a hair dryer. The owner is warm and welcoming and provided cake when we arrived :-) We didn't get around to taking advantage of the discount at her cafe on this occasion - maybe next time. Shops and pubs 2 minutes walk. In case you were wondering, the 'log burner' is purely decorative. Recommend as a cosy base for walking or just relaxing.

Cold and needs updating.

  • 1 of 5

On arrival, we were told that the boiler could only run on minimum because it was “temperamental” and that the fire was broken. I was so cold on Christmas Eve that I had to buy a tin of hot chocolate from Spar. The whole of the ice compartment in the fridge was entombed in a single block of ice. The bathroom is very tired and there was a hole in the kitchen ceiling. This property is in a great location but needs sorting out.

Owner's Response: Thankyou for taking the time to review Maple Cottage. I must apologise for my late response. I am disappointed to read your comments. I think regarding the boiler you misunderstood what i said. It’s fully functional and radiators have individual thermostates so you can have temperatures to suit. I do ask guests not to adjust the controls on the boiler to prevent any problems. The additional burner was indeed not working but I did apologise and explain it had been tampered with and as it was Christmas i couldn’t get it repaired ready for you. I apologised about the freezer compartment. With regard to the bathroom I am not clear what you are referring to, as generally I get such lovely feedback about the whole Cottage. I have taken all your comments on board and thankyou for you’re feedback. I did actually email you after your stay.

beautifully kept cottage with lovely views of the valley and hills from the front

  • 5 of 5

Everything we needed, except a full height shower over the bath, hand held one was sufficient for me but not for a 6' man. Even coffee, sugar, salt and pepper etc were in the cupboards, really home from home. The weekend for us was to visit family living nearby so didn't use the excellent cooking facilities, and Sunday pm. was spent at Chatsworth. Everything can be obtained locally and Spar shop or One Stop 5 minutes walk away. My son slept till 12 noon, comfy beds, so we missed breakfast at Cintra's, maybe next time, thank you for the easy weekend.
