Wonderful relaxing holiday in a fantastic villa

  • 5 of 5

We had another truly relaxing and fantastic holiday at this villa. We were lucky to enjoy plenty of sunshine, not that the kids minded swimming even if it was a little cloudy as the pool was lovely and warm.

The villa is superbly kitted out - with everything you need. It is very well maintained and always spotlessly clean on arrival. We have chosen to return to this villa many times : the views are spectacular and it is in such a tranquil location you really feel like you are in your own little part of paradise. We switch off, chill out and enjoy lazy days by the pool followed by meals out in our favourite beach bars.

I should also mention the very comfortable beds - many villas we have previously rented have had cheap beds with poor quality bedding. The opposite it true here, resulting in quality sleep!! Also plenty of hot water.

Great Broadband for the teens (sorry) and husband !!

Villa management is excellent too and very attentive.

Best local restaurants : Aqua na Boca and Cachoa for fine dining.

Beach bars : Boia, Linda's (in Lagos), Nortada (Martinhal)

Others : Tomik in Burgau

For seriously lazy evenings : Take away from Casa Padaria or Spice Cottage

  • 5 of 5

What a find...... beautiful villa and so well equipped! We've stayed in many villas but this is one of the nicest we've stayed in. Fantastic quite location, lovely big airy rooms with nice views, the pool is a good size too.

Great beaches and restaurants close by - will definitely return.

Correspondence with owner and villa manager were also excellent. Thankyou for a great holiday.

Great holiday base

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this villa for 9 nights (end June/beginning July 2013) and had the most brilliant holiday. The villa was well finished and had everything we needed, and more. The location was very unspoilt, with beautiful quiet beaches within walking distance. Local villages of Burgau and Salema were pretty, and had a variety of good restaurants. Very relaxed and private area around the pool where we spent loads of time, but also went for walks along the spectacular coastline.

Sharon was extremely helpful prior to our holiday. We would thoroughly recommend this villa, a great place to unwind and relax.

Location

From the Owner

Having enjoyed family holidays in the Western Algarve for several years we immediately fell in love with the villa due to its bright, contemporary feel and uniquely, quiet and unspoilt location. As a family, we love the variety that the area offers such as water sports, spa & golf days and the most stunning beaches. Being between Burgau and Salema gives us the best of both worlds with complete comfort, space and quiet yet easy access to the charms of these sea-side villages. Our favourite day is one surfing at the beautiful west coast beaches followed by an evening out at a beach restaurant comparing notes on the best waves of the day.

Activity and Interests

Special interest holidays:

Walking and mountain biking are popular past times with trails to suit every appetite. There is a wonderfully convenient mountain bicycle hire service that will turn up on the villa’s doorstep with a bike, allowing you explore a wider area than on foot as well as to pick up fresh bread or croissants first thing in the morning from the local bakery. For more energetic mountain bikers, if you cycle up to and across the N125 there are trails that will take you to the west coast offering no shortage of demanding hill work. Similarly, a little further afield there are beautiful walks around the peak at Monchique (45 mins drive). If you are a surfer, body-boarder kite or wind surfer the access to both the south and west coasts make the area one of the best in Europe. There are ample places to rent boards/wet suits and to arrange surf lessons (one surf school picks up at nearby Burgau at the very civilized time of 10:00).

Coast/Beach:

The closest beach to hand is Cabanas Velhas which is a small, quiet cove, minutes from the villa served by a contemporary beach bar with parasols & loungers for hire. You may also see local fishermen and divers quietly catching a meal. There are numerous sheltered beaches to enjoy on the south coast most well served with restaurants and water sports while the nearby west coast beaches offer simply stunning scenery and waves which attract surfers from all over Europe.

Travel:

Car hire is essential to get the best of this holiday. Car hire can be arranged at a discounted rate if required. Faro airport is around an hour away, most of which is motorway. Lisbon is 2.5-3 hours away and Seville is 3 hours away. Lagos which is the nearest large town/harbour is 15 minutes away. Cape St Vincent with it's dramatic headland is the most South Western point of Europe and is just a 25 min drive from the villa.

Distances:

The nearest shops are in Burgau that are less than 5 minutes away by car. There are excellent take away services here (details in villa). The nearest supermarket and petrol station is at Budens about 3.5km away. Luz is a few minutes beyond Burgau and has two decent sized supermarkets. There are a few hypermarkets within easy reach in Lagos and if you really want to shop then shopping malls at Portimao (25 mins) or Guia (40 mins) are options.

Further Details:

A superb Indian Restaurant lies a minute up the road and conveniently provides takeaways for those who want to collapse in a heap at the end of a long day at the beach. Both Burgau & Salema are working fishing villages with beautiful beaches which have retained their charm yet are well served with cafes and restaurants. Depending on your appetite and enthusiasm for exercise you can walk or cycle to either.

Not surprisingly the area is well served with cafes and restaurants. A list of current favourites and easy to reach places are in our villa handbook. You may want to travel further afield (15 minutes) in which case you have all that Lagos offers at your disposal. After a day in the surf, we often find it easiest to head over to either of the neighbouring towns or to stop on impulse at a beach bar on the way back. Takeway pizzas (there are a few pretty decent pizzerias around) also seem to hit the spot and allow you an evening on the balcony or by the the pool.

At the nearby sister resort of Golf Santo António you will also have access to tennis, a football academy and kids clubs that run during the summer holidays for ages 4-10/10-16. Tuition for golf and tennis is available for both children and adults. Spa/gym/outside pool available here at extra cost. Many other activities can be booked including learning to surf, windsurfing, horse riding, paintballing, cycle hire and trips to Lisbon and Seville and water parks.

There are several Spas in the area that offer an array of treatments.

Lagos of course, has much on offer from dolphin safari's to wake boarding for the adventurous. You can charter a boat and have lunch anchored up in one of the many coves along this dramatic coastline. Lagos town is impressive, steeped in history with its cobbled streets and traditional charm or the marina where old meets new displaying typical Moorish architecture.

Facilities

From the Owner

The villa is south facing and is a sheltered, private sun trap the whole day. There is a particularly beautiful vista from the large decked balcony. Even with a full house, you can still have your own space, relax by the pool or in the oversized hammock on the balcony while the kids , both big and small, enjoy a surf themed bedroom opening onto the pool (with an extra TV and WiFi necessary for teenagers). Nights are especially comfortable as we put in top quality mattresses and the shutters can be configured to give even the fussiest of sleepers the right amount of light and air! The short walk to the nearby beach and luxury beach restaurant in this unspoilt location is sheer delight
