About helen williams

We're Pedro and Ellie. We live in Wiltshire but really enjoy the time we spend in North Cornwall. The Old Chapel is our second home - we had intended to retire here one day but at the moment work commitments keep us in Wiltshire.

helen williams purchased this house in 2006

Why helen williams chose Cornwall

We bought The Old Chapel in 2006. We love this part of North Cornwall, in particular Widemouth Bay and the surf! We bought the Old Chapel because of its proximity to Widemouth Bay and simply because we fell in love with the building - it's old, has lots of character and the rooms are so spacious. We have a grown up family, with respective husbands/wives and growing band of grandchildren. The Old Chapel can cater for all of us when we do get together. The intention was to retire here at some point but at the moment we enjoy it as our second home. It therefore seems a shame not to share it with others - we have previously let family, friends and friends of friends rent it but we've now decided to let it on a more formal basis.

What makes this house unique

We're both very keen on outdoor fitness and activities: Walking - the coastal path is just the best - we often head off for the day, with our lunch and can spend hours walking, seeing only sea life and the beautiful surroundings. Running - again, the coastal path provides the best off-road running experience with enough hills to keep you fit. The canal in Bude, would be the flatter option, if hills aren't your thing!

Climbing - lots of sea cliff climbing all along this stretch of coastline - if this is your thing and you want to know more, Pedro will be happy to help.

Cycling - on and off road - again lots of hills. Off road on Bodmin Moor or wooded trails north of Bude. For the flatter option, the Camel and Tarka trails are within driving distance.

Open water swimming - either the sea or Bude Sea Pool - a famous sea pool, run by Friends of Bude Sea Pool Charity - almost 100m in length, it's replenished by the tide and is just the best place to swim for miles.

There are great sandy beaches too!

Close to Widemouth Bay (c. 1.5miles ) - a wonderful unspoilt sandy, surfing beach - in our opinion one of the best surfing beaches in Cornwall. Great for sunbathing, paddling and rock pooling.

Wonderful walk on public footpaths through fields and wooded glade from the Old Chapel to Millook c. 20 mins walk but if you're up for it, it's well worth it.

C. 5 miles from Crackington Haven and c.5 miles from Bude - both have great, safe, sandy beaches for family and surfing.

Easiest by car : c. 1 hour drive from Exeter via A30 to Launceston then to A39 to Bude - please ask us for the quickest route.

Newquay airport c. 45 mins away.

Exeter/Bristol airports - c. 1.5 and 2.5 hours away respectively.

A car is necessary for holidaying in the Old Chapel.

Widemouth Bay is c. 1.5 miles away - village shop, selling firewood and most essential provisions, also fresh fish plus fish and chips. Bay View Inn - a superb, friendly pub/eating place with amazing views across Widemouth Bay where you can watch wonderful sunsets!

A convenience store at Wainhouse Corner c.2 miles away.

Bude is c. 5 miles and offers all the usual shops/pubs/banks and restaurants you'd expect in a small town - Morrison's (just outside Bude) and Sainsbury's (in the town).
