About the Owner

We are a married Australian couple with two adult daughters - one engineer/artist, one passionate foodie. We have loved visiting Italy for years, study the language, and looked to buy. We came upon the opportunity to build a contemporary highly ecological house in the hills of Umbria. This greatly appealed to the engineer and Our project has been one of enthusiastic collaboration between us, our Australian architects, the German builders who prefabricated the house, and the Italian building team who completed the construction. Villa del Verde is our second home and we have furnished it with original Australian art. It embodies all that is contemporary in both furnishings and the latest technology for thermally efficient houses and we want others to embrace and enjoy all it offers.

"All the previous villas we have visited have been the traditional brick style. Your modern, air conditioned, functional villa full of light

with the spectacular views was totally different and the best of all. We really enjoyed our stay. We have to say to that you have done absolutely

fabulous work to find the plot, design and construct the villa. The location of your villa is also very central to visit the nearby charming towns. We made day trips to Montepulciano, Gubbio, Orvieto and visited even Forum Romanum in Rome (missed it last time). Cortona, Siena and Florence would have been also easy to reach".

Beautiful villa

We have just returned from an incredibly relaxing week's holiday in this fantastic house. Our plans to explore the area came to little because it was so nice to lie by the pool in the partial shade of the olive trees. The house is clean, well equipped and nicely furnished. Property manager Caroline was very helpful while leaving us to enjoy our holiday in peace. We will definitely be back.

Perfect in every way!

Hi Cate,

I wanted to write to you to thank for letting your stunning house to us. The house is truly wonderful. Everything about it was faultless. From the decor to, the layout, the art work, the views the list is endless. There was nothing missing, the house was well stocked with all the essentials, kitchen utensils, towels and bedding. It was a home from home. We had an amazing Christmas in an amazing setting. We loved being there so so much that we are thinking of renting it over the summer if there is availability! Thanks again. All Expectations Surpassed

We spent seven amazing nights in David and Cate's wonderful villa and did not want to leave. The location is fantastic, as it gives you a chance to really switch off and slow things down. There is no need to rush when you are surrounded by olive trees, rolling hills, and the views of neighbouring villages basking in the Italian sun.

With a car, everything you should desire is only a short distance away. Visits to Perugia and Assisi for 'La Passeggiata' is a must. There is something about the light in Umbria that is hard to explain until you experience it for yourself. Incredible.

In terms of household amenities - the house is more than well stocked for wining and dining. We ate almost every meal at home with supplies from the local co-op and supermarket near by. A berry crumble was even made from the blackberry bushes that dominate the roadside around the house!

Cate was extremely friendly and helpful in the early stages prior to our arrival, and was always quick to respond to my emails. Once we had checked in, Caroline the property manager greeted us and made us all feel welcome. She also went far out of her way to organise things (when our collective Italian was lacking) and gave us great information on the area.

All in all, highly recommended!

Great place

We had a great week. Visited Perugia and Assisi in the morning or evening, and spend the afternoon at the pool or in the house. Very beautiful, sunny and luxurious house, with a great view.

Outstanding Villa and perfect holiday

Overall it was a perfect holiday: amazing villa, perfect cleaned and maintained, Caroline (the housekeeper) is as good as gold, nice view, for golfers a must to visit the Antognolla Golf Club, Umbria is a lovely region with many nice old towns like Assisi, Todi, Bevagna, Montefalco, Perugia within a radius of 50 km. The only negative in some nights was the barking in the neighbourhood.

From the Owner

We particularly love being in a country environment while, at the same time, not being at all isolated. Our close proximity to a beautiful city, to real working italian towns, and many famous medieval villages is unique and offers a vast choice of activities. We have two neighbouring families closeby with whom we have good friendships and hence a sense of community. One lives there permanently and the other only for holidays. Our views are stunning and the environment peaceful and relaxing.

Villa del Verde is central to Umbria’s medieval hilltop villages: Assisi (20 mins, Spello (30 mins), Todi and Gubbio (45 mins), and Spoleto (50 mins). Umbrian, Tuscan and Le Marche’s many treasures are all well within day trips: medieval villages, art and history trails, hiking routes (marked by Italian Hiking Club), famous wine regions and food hubs, and skiing slopes.

Ponte Felcino at the bottom of our hill has supermarkets, banks and most essential shopping.

Assisi, viewed from our house and situated on the side of Mount Subasio, is the world famous birthplace of St Francis who founded the Franciscan Religious Order and St Clare who founded the Order of the Poor Sisters.

Bevagna - a delightful medieval village in the wine growing region of Umbria. It is a treasure to wander through with many excellent restaurants, a beautiful piazza.

A point of difference for our house is obviously the International A+ energy certification it has received. Our state-of-the-art air exchange system allows the house to maintain an even temperature of your choice (low 20 degrees) all year round. Heating costs are not an issue as they would be in a typical traditional italian house. This makes our house comfortable and affordable all year round. The architecture and design is contemporary, and while local materials are featured, they are incorporated into a modern, light-filled, open, comfortable and highly efficient house. The house also has lots of security with outside sensor lights and an alarm system.

  • Notes on accommodation: House is ideally suited to 4 couples, or 2 couples with 4 children. Queen sized beds in the two suites, 2 single beds together to make a large queen in the two double bedrooms. Can be either made up as queens or singles. Our state-of-the-art technology provides an air exchange system which allows for clean air circulation in all rooms, plus doors/windows can be opened for cross ventilation. Outside louvres to large glass windows can be controlled manually to facilitate privacy or views. Private balcony off Suite 1 upstairs. Suite 2 downstairs opens to olive grove and pathway to pool, with table and chairs outside bedroom. Outside: Villa del Verde is situated on a 1000 sq metre block with lawns, part of an olive grove and swimming pool. Swimming pool 8 x 4m is situated in the olive grove a little way from house but can be seen from the sitting room and terrace. Lawns surround the house, paving stone pathways from house to swimming pool, solar shower and pool furniture. Garden areas include sculpture, stone walls, green roof (no access). Our olive grove and lower garden area around the pool is open on one side to our neighbour's property to the right. This is a holiday house property and only inhabited periodically by the owners. We enjoy friendly relations with our neighbours and look out for each other's properties. Villa del Verde has an outdoor terrace on the top level in the centre of the house allowing for living room doors to open out to outdoor dining area, stone clad fireplace with grilling facility. Two small balconies, one off main bedroom, the other off the living room. Utility Room: Downstairs utility room has 3 seater couch, large TV, and large pouffe serving as either seat or coffee table. Original art. Laundry has second fridge, washing machine, dryer, trough, built-in benches and cupboard for cleaning equipment. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen provided. Property will be cleaned following each rental period. For periods longer than 1 week, extra cleans may be requested and paid for by the tenant. Other: Kitchen/Living Room and bedrooms face south with large glass windows to big country view.
