Hendra Paul Holiday Cottages offer quality accommodation in Cornwall, in 3 charming, beamed, individual and totally unique Cottages. Situated on 54 acres of Cornish countryside, in the pretty Porth Valley, with the meandering stream leading down to Porth Beach, 2 miles away, or 1 mile as the seagull flies. The cottages are original and quaint! We are about half a mile from the main A3059, along a pretty country lane, then down a long, private drive, so are very safe and peaceful. We are 10 minutes in the car from the beautiful Watergate Bay, Fistral Beach and Newquay town centre. Situated near Newquay, the cottages have access to the whole of Cornwall with the main A30 not far away. Our cottages offer something for everyone, sleeping from 2 to 6 people in great comfort, with lovely antique furnishings and comfortable beds. We are open all year, so ideal for out of season rentals for short breaks. Special rates for couples only. Babies and children welcome, we regret we do not accept pets.
I have lived at Hendra Paul Farm since October 1973 and have been doing holiday lets in our cottages since the first one, the old Barn was completed in 1980! We first started out letting a caravan, at the farm. It had no bathroom and the families had to walk through a corner of a field of cows, to reach our outside toilet, yes, ours as well, as we had no proper kitchen or bathroom when we moved here! We had to wait over a year but it was worth it, living in such a beautiful part of England. We eventually got permission to change the old barn with an oat roller, into Barn Owl Cottage. Then some years after, the Dairy and the old Stable, into Badgers Sett Cottage and Spiders Web Cottage. Several years passed by and we then converted the final old Stable into Wild Flower Cottage. Some families and couples have holidayed on and off since then. We are very proud of the cottages! They have much character, with beams, some stone walls, but with all mod cons, dish washers, washing machines and the like.
Julia Schofield purchased this cottage in 1973
We bought the rural farm in the 70's and ran it along side holiday lets until 1990's and now we also have a DIY Livery Yard for horses, as well as running the cottages.
This is not to be confused with a Riding School, or Stables. Local people keep their horses here, along with our family ones. Our daughter teaches riding, and she events and show jumps, when she is not having babies, with her husband who is a Farrier. They have 3 young sons now, who love to ride their ponies. They also love quad biking!
It is so lovely to have the local Co op, Post Office, and Public House at St. Columb Minor, on the outskirts of Newquay, a short 5 minute drive from here.
I think the position of the farm, close to the beautiful surfing beach at Porth, Newquay, was the reason we fell in love with it.
You will benefit from using our Farm and seeing horses and animals. Lovely walks around our fields. From the furthest field you can see the sea, Newquay Bay, in the distance, as we are on the 1 Mile Coastal Belt. When we have the lovely long Summer evenings, you can light up the Barbeque, each cottage has one on their patio area. You can play tennis on the (unmarked) Tennis area, it is just for fun and many of our regulars enjoy this! If you enjoy eating out, we are not far from Jamie Olivers 15 Restaurant at Watergate Bay, The Phoenix Pub also at Watergate. The Falcon Inn at St. Mawgan is lovely and friendly and does good food. There are many other cafes and bars in Newquay, you will be spoilt for choice!
We have just returned from a weeks holiday in beautiful Cornwall. We stayed in the Spiders Web cottage which exceeded all our expectations. The cottage is beautiful, spotless clean, well equipped and a real home from home. There are plenty of board games & DVDs to watch on the huge TV if the weather is not so good but luckily for us the weather was gorgeous all week so we made good use of the fantastic outdoor space playing tennis, cricket, football etc.
The cottages are in a very peaceful location which relaxes you as soon as you arrive. It is a 10 minute drive to Newquay where there is lots to do and if the weather is good some wonderful beaches. We found the best beach to be Lusty Glaze as the sea wasn't too rough and was brilliant for body boarding.
The bed in the master bedroom was unbelievably comfortable and we slept well every night. All in all a brilliant holiday in a brilliant location and in a beautiful cottage. Will definitely recommend and hopefully return one day soon.
Please contact owner.
Our changeover day is usually Friday but we are flexible, especially out of season.
