About the property

FR18114

Originally an ancient hamlet, Preniac is a collection of traditional white stone buildings in the Quercyoise style, sympathetically converted into charming and tasteful holiday accommodation and a large studio workshop. Built around the delightful courtyard of a lovely 18th century farmhouse and perfectly situated on the brow of a hill, Preniac commands stunning 360-degree views across the beautiful rolling countryside of the southern Lot. Set in 9 acres of tranquil parkland, which includes a small lake, it also has a 12 x 6 metre swimming pool with enchanting views across the valley from the sun terraces. Literally surrounded by rare orchids in Spring, and superbly located amidst sunflower fields and vineyards, Preniac is just outside the pretty flower filled village of St Pantaleon and 20 minutes drive from the River Lot. Five minutes drive away lies the lively medieval village of Montcuq with its 11th century tower and choice of cafes, bars and shops.

About Liz Halls-Moore

We now live permanently here at Preniac with our cats Sid, Milly and Ted.

We have fallen head over heels in love with the area and have made many friends here.

Before moving to Preniac from the UK Liz was an Art & Texitles teacher in a girls secondary school and Bill ran his owner computer consultancy.

We have spent the last 6 years restoring Preniac,

which was previously a farm dating back to the 18th century.

During May, June and September, we organise fully catered courses in Art and Creative Textiles taught by internationally renowned artists and tutors.

Liz Halls-Moore purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Liz Halls-Moore chose Lot

We love the Lot Department and in particular the Quercy Blanc area for its fantastically varied countryside and beautiful medieval towns. The rare orchids in spring, sunflowers in summer, glorious autumn colours and warm southern climate. In particular we enjoy Cahors wine and the delicious local goats cheese. The beautiful medieval towns and villages and their fabulous markets are stunning. The area is perfect for walking, cycling, or just watching the world go by in a local café.

There’s lots to do in summer with village fetes, wine festivals and marchés gourmandes in abundance. We like to kayak down the river or gently potter around a local brocante looking for bargains.

The area is easily accessible being midway between Bergerac and Toulouse Airports, and around 20 minutes from the main north south motorway

What makes this cottage unique

We are 5 minutes walk from the famous GR65 walking route (St Jacques de Compostelle Pilgrim route to Spain), with 360 degree panoramic views of the valley.

Preniac boasts its own tranquil lake and large pool with fabulous views.

Safe and secluded for families of all ages, and a quiet get away for couples, yet only five minutes drive from Montcuq leisure beach and it’s lively cafés and bars.

Many of our guests return year after year and as one contented guest recently remarked, “Preniac is a little bit of heaven”.

Spacious gite, lovely pool and great views.

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely, relaxing week at Lavande. The gite was very clean, spacious and well equipped. The views from the patio across the pool and over the valley were beautiful. Our two children loved the pool and running about

in the grounds. Highlights of our week were visiting the market at Montcuq on Sunday morning, the swimming lake near Montcuq and St Cirq Lapopie. I would certainly recommend staying at Lavande!

Beautiful,spacious Quercy style gite.

  • 5 of 5

Lavande is light and spacious with a clean, well equipped modern interior in a lovely stone characterful cottage, typical of the Lot region. The pool is in a lovely setting.

The gite has its own sitting out area with outstanding views, perfect for an evening meal, a bottle of wine and watching the sun go down. Lavande is quietly situated but only a few minutes by car to Montcuq, a medieval village with restaurants and very good market on Sunday morning. Groceries and petrol are also available nearby.

The region is surrounded by bastide villages, St Cirq Lapopie, Lauzerte and Rocamadour are within easy driving distances for day visits. Cahors, is also well worth visiting, the gite has plenty of information on local sites to visit. We spent a day driving through the Lot valley following the river, stopping off for coffees and a meal in the riverside villages. The scenery is stunning.

If you don't want to drive you can just walk out along the path from the gite up onto the causse, the compostella route is close by.It was the wild orchids and butterflies that we loved. Or you can just swim and read by the pool.

The owners are helpful but unobtrusive if you have any queries or want information about the area.
