Chalet Apartment in Argentiere, Chamonix Valley, Haute Savoie, Rhone-Alpes, France - Superb Position, Almost Next to the Grands Montets Ski Lift & on the Edge of the Ski Slope!

A perfect ski-in ski-out family apartment, very close to the Grands Montets lift & the ski schools, & on the edge of the ski slope, yet easy walking distance (10 mins) to the centre of the charming village of Argentiere with its shops & restaurants. It's perfect for families with children (cot & high chair can be provided) & the proximity to the lift & ski school makes it very easy to come back to the apartment at lunch time. The south facing balcony is a real sun trap & gives wonderful views of the Mont Blanc range. Although ideal for a winter holiday, it is also a lovely base for spring or summer in the mountains, with endless activities such as hiking, mountain biking, golf, rock climbing, swimming, parapenting, glacier trekking etc.

We are a retired couple, proud of our lovely family of children & grandchildren. We, and our extended family, spend many weeks enjoying Argentiere, both during the ski season and during the summer months.

Why Dr & Mrs R Blake-James chose Chamonix - Mont Blanc area

We bought our apartment in Argentiere nine years ago because of our family's love of skiing. Three generations of our family have loved being in the apartment & skiing from there.

We have also found increasing pleasure in the joys of being in the mountains in the summer months.

We hope you will find the apartment family friendly & welcoming and that you can enjoy the amazing proximity to the slopes as much as we do !

What makes this apartment unique

During the winter season .. the huge advantage of the apartment is that it really is "ski-in ski-out" .. & is so very close to the Grands Montets Lift.

We love the south facing balcony & the view out over the Mont Blanc range.

In summer .. it is in a lovely position to take advantage of the beautiful mountain walks. The chalet is very close to one of the best local trails, Le Petit Balcon Nord.

Or mountain bikes can be hired in the village .. you can even take the bikes up on some of the chair lifts & bubble cars for an exciting descent !

A home away from home

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our 9 day stay in Argentiere. One of the reasons was the Blake-James' cosy apartment to which we were able to return each evening, usually after an invigorating hike on the trails around the Chamonix-Argentiere valley.

From the balcony of the apartment one can enjoy a stunning and uninterrupted view of Mont Blanc. One is far enough from the center of town that one experiences there the tranquility of the countryside , truly "far from the madding crowd." In reality though the center is literally less than a 15 minute walk away...with all the amenities one might reasonably need for a week's stay.... using a convenient shortcut via a bridge across a nearby river.

For us the apartment was spacious and well equipped and felt more like a comfortable home than a typical rental space.

We look forward to returning for an even longer stay.

A wonderful apartment in a beautiful setting

We have just returned from a lovely stay in Appt 21, La Verte. We were struck by the most beautiful view from the balcony where we enjoyed our après ski every evening. The apartment made us feel instantly 'at home ' with a very well equiped kitchen and very comfortable accommodation , hot baths , lovely linen , comfortable beds and everything we needed for a great family holiday- Wifi, DVDs, games, sledges.

The snow was great so we were able to ski down from Argentiere straight to the front door . The ski school is a stones throw away as are a variety of ski hire shops and most importantly, the apartment is next to the cable car station . Argentiere centre is five minutes away with a few restaurants , two bakeries, a supermarket , fuel station and more ski shops to meet all your needs.

We have visited Chamonix/Argentiere three times in all and this apartment is , by far, the best accommodation we have stayed in . Particularly ,the location , lovely setting , homely accommodation and wonderful hospitality from its owners, Robert and Rowan. They were so helpful and friendly.

I cannot fault this accommodation. A truly wonderful ski holiday. We would love to return for another ski holiday and would have liked to have kept this our little secret but it's too lovely not to share. I'd be tempted to come for a walking holiday too. The views are spectacular.

AND NOW WINTER.

In the title of this review I refer to my Review dated July 13th 2015 about our brief stop-over at La Verte in the autumn of 2014 when it was just two of us travelling from Italy to UK and spending a few days in Argentiere.

This visit was for end February to 05th March 2016.

I stick with and endorse everything as said in earlier posting : Then, I said, off street parking a bonus for un-loading & loading etc this time we used the garage which was a complete bonus, and meant un-loading and loading was easy in the dry & warmth. We even put the snow chains on in the garage in preparation for an early departure! I felt very smug on our penultimate afternoon watching someone dig their car out from the attached parking area and then enlist a couple of people to push the car to get him moving ! From this you should deduce that there was plenty of fresh snow....... indeed the slopes and whole valley were carpeted with a fresh white blanket for several days of our stay. Sadly there were also many days of “white-out” conditions caused by an ever present fog and low cloud cover! Yes! This did spoil the skiing, but not the holiday or our enjoyment of the apartment. You don’t expect to catch a salmon every time you cast a fly, do you? I suppose because of the weather, we, ( 6 of us) did spend more time in the apartment and that is the point of this review, surely by now you have decided on the Argentiere / Chamonix Ski Area so it’s knowing where to lay your head and spend time “off piste” if a little “P....’d off” because of the weather.

This cozy apartment has been well cared for by the owners, Family Blake James and well stocked with plenty of games, CD’s books, & magazines all available for guest use. The cupboards are well stocked with pans , dishes and enough plates etc to have one fully loaded dishwasher and enough still out for use. There was plenty of hot water , for 6 of us, so no rushing for the first but shallow bath or shower.OK, it’s a “French bath”...... but I still enjoy soaking in a bath after a day on the slopes even if I have to do it in 2 halves! Dinner for six was cooked every evening & the only mutterings occasionally heard were from that days chef, complaining that the oblong dish in the micro wave / regular oven was not a match made in heaven as the turntable tried to spin ! This was overcome somehow!

Cont;... From Part 1 Earlier Review !

We really liked the fact that the “store” cupboard is not empty on arrival; basics supplies are there, eg. Salt, sugar, dressings, cereals , rice etc and they are used by guests and then replaced as used ...... so if everyone plays the game then there is no wastage throwing half used jars and packets away and all are happy on arrival.

We briefly met the lady who helps with the changeover who seems very charming, speaks English and seems to do a good job looking after the apartment & cleaning between lets. She did however mention some previous tenants who left rather a mess ( a long time ago): Perhaps they get a “red Card” and for some reason this lovely apartment is never available again when they want to visit!

For those interested and driving, we drove from Calais to Argentiere via Geneva Airport hardly using the Payage motorways...... On return, also via Geneva Airport we used the Payage for the last section, St Quentin to Calais. This might have taken us 90 mins or so longer, but was a pleasant route and cost a total of Euro 26.80. N.B. IF parking in the garage at La Verte check the roof height if you have skis or roof box fitted!

Lovely cosy apartment.

Great apartment perfect for families. We arrived by transfer and the apartment is very easy to find close to the Grand Montets cable car. Ski in and ski out with ski schools close by. Nice restaurant for lunch next door. The apartment is really cosy and ideal size for the four of us. Well maintained and the owners couldn't have been more accommodating. I would happily recommend this apartment for any family ski holiday!

Notes on accommodation: The apartment has been equipped to a very high standard, as it is used by the owners as well as clients, & so has the feel of a family home. It is one of the larger apartments in a traditionally built 1960's chalet containing over twenty separate apartments. The chalet has been completely re-roofed 2 years ago with traditional wooden shingles, which increases the insulation. The basement has a bicycle store, ski-lockers, & other facilities. The apartment is one of the few to own a parking space in the lock-up garage. And in addition there is access to private open-air parking, which is much sought after as the public car park for the Grands Montets lift is very full in high season. Outside: The apartment has a south facing balcony with table & bench/deck chairs. The La Verte Chalet has no specific garden area. On one side there is the small road & the other sides are surrounded by grass, or snow in the winter months. The main piste down from the Grands Montets runs past the back of the chalet. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen & towels & cleaning are included in the price. The apartment is cleaned weekly & the the linen & towels are changed weekly. Other: Ski locker & lock-up garage
