The apartment is registered by the Câmara Municipal de Tavira as Alojamento Local (1262/AL). This spacious first floor apartment with full AIR CON. and WiFi has great views and is right in the heart of the village of Santa Luzia, famous for it's fishermen who fish for octopus. There are plenty of mini-markets in the village, lots of cafes and plenty of wonderful restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets. Seafood dishes are a speciality. General stores, a bank with ATM machine, pharmacy, bakery and butchers are all within easy walk of the apartment. Santa Luzia is right in the heart of the Ria Formosa National Park and is a haven for wild life, bird watchers, cyclists and walkers. There are a number of long sandy beaches nearby,many reached by cheap water taxis or small ferry boats. Faro airport is 30 mins away and the Spanish border is only 20 mins by car. Three golf courses are with easy reach with Benamor being the nearest, only 5 mins by car. The historical town of Tavira, the 'Venice of the Algarve' is within 4 km and can be reached by walking, or catching the local bus or taxi.

About The Owner

I moved from the South of England in 2005 to find a calmer life in Portugal after working in the UK for many years. Over the past 12 years I have managed rental properties for friends, but now I have my own rental apartment. Although I still have a few years yet before I retire, I now love to take time-out to explore more of Portugal, meet and make new friends and enjoy the challenge of learning the language.

Why The Owner chose Tavira region

I was born and raised near the sea on the south coast of England and now I have the chance to live by the sea, so I know how lucky I am. I want to share this quiet area of the Algarve with others, as it is so different from the Western regions of the Algarve. It is only now that this area is being rediscovered... by walkers, cyclists, photographers, bird-watchers & lovers of nature and good food.

I chose to buy an apartment in Santa Luzia, a special place with a working fishing fleet and a number of beaches, set in the middle of the Ria Formosa Nature park. It can be quiet in the winter, yet you have the bustle of Tavira town within easy reach if and when you want it. In the summer months the place is alive with the Portuguese who love to take their holidays here, together with many other nationalities who come to spend a day on the beach or have a meal in one of the local restaurants.

What makes this apartment unique

I can watch the world go by from my apartment, take photos or even paint a picture if I wish. The views from the shared roof terrace are spectacular whatever the weather. Everything you need is close by e.g. restaurants, cash machine, small local shops. This small apartment block is on the front-line, and offers wonderful panoramic views from the main balcony and the communal roof terrace. I can choose to walk beside the lagoon, catch the mini train or little ferry to the beach or just sit in one of the local cafes. From my 1st floor apartment I can relax and experience a much simpler way of life.

Notes on accommodation: Suitable for couples and small families. Ideal for a romantic holiday or short break. The apartment is located on the corner of a small block of 8 apartments situated just across from the lagoon. There are 3 balconies, with the main terrace getting the full early afternoon sun til dusk, and has views overlooking the lagoon. This terrace is shaded in the morning for breakfast. The main rooms have sliding double glazed doors onto the balconies, allowing a cooling breeze to circulate on warmer days or nights. New Air Conditioning units have been fitted in the bedroom & the lounge, offering heating & cooling.The bathroom has a heated towel rail and electric wall heater and an external window for ventilation. The large shared roof terrace is accessed by a spiral staircase and offers uninterrupted panoramic views across the lagoon and and beyond, in both directions. A table and four chairs together with two sun loungers are on the roof terrace for the clients' use during their stay. Outside: The main private terrace leading from the kitchen and bedroom has fantastic views over the Ria Formosa lagoon. On this terrace/balcony there is a table and 2 upright chairs together with a parasol available, and on the communal roof terrace there are 2 loungers with mattresses, and a further table and chairs for use when eating. The large shared roof terrace has far reaching views over the Ria Formosa nature reserve, a haven for bird watchers and photographers and artists. The 2 sun loungers and the table and chairs are for your private use. Utility Room: Large walk-in cupboard with storage space. Ironing board and iron. clothes-horse, vacuum cleaner, cleaning equipment. Various cushions etc. for outside furniture. Sun Parasol. Locked linen cupboard for use by the owner. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Apartment cleaned before arrival, fresh towels & bed linen will be available on day of arrival, and provided for you to change after each week of your stay, or midway through your stay if 10 nights or more. Beach towels available to hire if required. Other: Front door with outside light above entrance, entry into hallway with library bookshelf and space for shoes & luggage. Umbrella for customers' use. Excellent stay

This apartment is a little home-from-home in a perfect location. The views are a pleasure to wake up to and the walk/rode to the beaches are a treat.

Our introduction was warm and thorough and it saved much time, allowing us to focus on getting the most from Tavira and St Luzia.

I would highly recommend this apartment for tranquility, the most wonderful beaches, lovely restaurants and easy access to Tavira which is steeped in history.

The library is a really nice touch - do read the little book of Portuguese phrases if you are a beginner!

Many thanks for a wonderful stay.

Fabulous partment in wonderful location

Superb, well equipped and spotlessly clean apartment, more than ample space for 2 people. Spent most of our time out on the balcony enjoying the views across the harbour to the beach. Enjoyed being in the village for evening with plenty of choice for dining out. Easily accessible for Tavira and any food shopping that you couldn't get in Santa Luzia. Loved the trip to the beach, either by ferry or down to the little railway, although most days we enjoyed the walk there. Fabulous weather throughout, without being too hot considering it was July. Would recommend everything about this place for a holiday - we'll be back for sure.

Excellent Apartment in Santa Luzia

We arrived early evening and were met by Chris who showed us around her lovely, very well appointed apartment. Chris was also extremely helpful in providing local hints and tips

The apartment was very clean and equipped to a high standard, providing all that you could wish for, especially the air conditioning, which was most welcome.

Santa Luzia was all that we had imagined and its tranquility enabled us to enjoy a peaceful and relaxing holiday. All the restaurants provided quality service and meals, and the fish in particular was exceptional. The beaches were also very beautiful and clean. Tavira is also well worth a visit, for its history and restaurants.

We will definitely revisit soon.

Great location and superbly equipped apartment.

This apartment is situated overlooking the harbour and we enjoyed our breakfasts on the balcony watching the fishermen unload their catch or preparing fortheir day.

This apartment is equipped with everything you need and a lot more. A great collection of helpful maps and information on local attractions,restaurants,transport timetables etc.

Spotlessly clean and plenty of space. This apartment is only yards from numerous fabulous restaurants and bars though in a really quiet area.

The owner met us on arrival and provided valuable information on the area.

There is a lovely rooftop terrace with magnificent views and great for sunbathing.

Absolutely wonderful!

Had a wonderful stay in Santa Luzia, the apartment was everything and more than we expected. Ideal for a winter stay as the apartment never felt cold unlike some I've stayed in at this time of year.

Comfortable, spotless and ideally placed

The apartment is an ideal position and has a great layout, with really lovely views of the tidal stretches of the tidal lagoon and harbour metres away.

Spotless inside, kitchen has all you'll need to rustle up anything from a breakfast to full meal.

The village itself has plenty of restaurants and a walk over to the beach on the island is well worth the walk (or take the land train part of the way). Adjacent Tavira is a lovely day out.

Special interest holidays:

The Ria Formosa is designated as a natural park covering 170 sq km and is a protected area of special interest. Popular activities are walking, cycling, hiking as well as bird watching and fishing. Various boat trips are available locally and across the Algarve, enabling you to visit small islands and remote beaches.

Drive into the hills above Tavira and further into the Alentejo region and you will discover small villages and towns, and see a different area of Portugal.

Coast/Beach:

Local beaches stretch for miles and are very clean with beautiful white sand. You can reach the quiet Terra Estreita beach by taking the water taxi 250m from the apartment which only takes 3 minutes across the lagoon. The beautiful Barril beach is at the western end of Santa Luzia and can be reached by foot or by bike and then across the lagoon bridge to use the mini train. There is a local bus which goes to Pedras del Rei to catch the little train or follow the rail track & walk to the beach.

Travel:

Faro airport is approx 30 km and takes around 30 minutes by car. Faro city centre is approx 35 km. Regular buses run between Faro and Tavira, and Faro airport and Faro city centre. Trains run regular services from Faro centre to Tavira and across the Algarve. We can arrange a rental car and obtain quotes on request. Airport transfers can also be arranged. A car is not essential but is useful if you wish to explore further afield. Coaches to Seville and Lisbon run from Tavira bus station.

Distances:

Tavira town 3 km. Buses run regularly to and from Tavira. You can cycle back and forth, or walk using the main road or alongside part of the Ria Formosa. Once in Tavira you can catch the train from the local station which takes you to various towns and villages across the east and west of the Algarve, including Fuseta and Faro (30 km), and Cabanas and Vila Real Sta Antonio.

Further Details:

There are plenty of local cafes and good restaurants offering a variety of local dishes at reasonable prices. There is a local bank with ATM machine sited on the ground floor of the apartment buidling. Everything is within walking distance. The village has a wealth of excellent bars and restaurants, and the standard of food is kept high due to the healthy competition in the village. The main restaurants are as follows, Restaurant a Casa...for octopus dishes, look out for the Prato da dia (dish of the day). Capelos -Traditional Portuguese, probably the most famous restaurant on the Algarve, a little bit pricy by comparison. Casa Do Abade -The Abbots house, Tito and his wife/chef Paula will serve you with traditional Portuguese food and hospitality. Canto Azul - Dutch restaurant with fantastic views over the lagoon, Leonie and her husband/chef will delight you with great value for money food and wines. Alcatruz - traditional Portuguese at a good price, take a phrase book and you probably have to book beforehand. Casa do Polvo - The octopus specialities of the house are well known at this restaurant, as are the blue and white tiles on the walls. Fado, the traditional singing/music of Portugal can be enjoyed, live music and singers Thursday eves during the Winter months, especially during the low season when the locals join in. Vincent's down one of the side streets is a mix of French cuisine and mediterranean food, delicious but you must book beforehand to ensure you get a table.

Bars - there are many to choose from so here are a few, R+M - Silvio and his staff will serve you with really cheap drink whilst you sit and enjoy the sea breeze. Meia Pipa- Alvaro and barman/son Nuno can serve you with just about any drink you can think of, live music here most weekend evenings, try a tosta mista (ham and cheese toastie) brilliant for a late night snack!

Nearby Tavira has many bars and restaurants. Pessoa's Café is a wine bar/drinks served with tapas and tasty snacks whilst sitting by the river as the sun sets. The Bica or the Emigrante or the Belmar or Casa Simão for traditional Portuguese food or Brisa de Ria for a good European menu and a roof terrace.Tavira Lounge which is by the river near the Roman bridge serves tapas and good home cooked pasta dishes together with excellent home-made desserts. The Avenida up the Rua de Liberdade is also worth trying. For Vegetarians/Vegans try Encanto Natural restaurant, Tavira, opposite the Hotel Porta Nova. Wonderful fresh home produced products, very healthy and beautifully presented.

The balance is due 8 weeks before arrival unless it is less than 8 weeks, then the full rental (deposit and rental fees) are due when booking.
