Spacious Stone Barn Conversion With Pool And Garden

Updated: 22-Oct-2016
House in Orliac, Nr. Belves, Sarlat, Dordogne, Aquitaine, France - Tranquil Hamlet Overlooking Meadows And Wooded Hills

A 3 bedroom converted 18th century barn sleeping 6-7, situated in the tranquil hillside farming hamlet of Canredon, surrounded by walnut groves, meadows and woodland. Spacious inside and out, and mostly on one floor. Leave the family kitchen through French doors, and plan your day over breakfast on your secluded southeast-facing terrace. Placed halfway between Soulliac and Bergerac, you have easy access to major vineyards, prehistoric sites, Sarlat’s gastro centre, and key transport links. Or just drive 10km down the valley to explore the restaurants and markets of medieval hilltop Belvès, or 4km beyond to canoe on the River Dordogne, and pick up groceries on your way home. Or just stroll across the lawn, past the shady fruit trees that feed the wild boar & deer, up to the pool with its panoramic views over the valley and wooded hills beyond, to relax and watch the buzzards soar overhead. Maybe go wine-tasting or golfing or mountain-biking or horse-riding tomorrow?

About the Owner

My name is Jacob Cosin, and I now split my time between Cornwall and Kent so as to be closer to my retired parents. As a result I cannot enjoy the splendour of the Dordogne and Lot regions as often as I once did. Instead, I invite you into my gîte, in the hope that you can share some of the experiences that I benefited from whilst growing up and in the years since.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The Barn has a very welcoming friendly feel, is in a fantastic and remote location with outstanding views, a beautiful pool and a wonderful rustic ambience overall. We had a great stay for 2 weeks and were sorry to leave.

From the Owner

My parents bought the run-down farm in 1996, as we had all fallen in love with the area; they then spent many years, many francs & euros, plus much perspiration renovating and modernizing it. However now that they have retired to Kent, our neighbours farm the land, and the buildings lie empty half the year. I decided to buy the converted barn from them so that I could keep my own foothold in the Dordogne, and then one day maybe....?

From the Owner

Have you seen the view? Well of course you haven’t, and my photos don't really do it justice. But you can get some idea right now: copy “Canredon, Orliac, France” into the search bar of Google Maps, and the “red marker" lands right on top of the gîte. Drag the yellow “StreetView man” from the bottom RHS of the screen, and place him on a the approach-road to the northeast of the gîte where it is highlighted in blue. The view is even better from the pool-side. However I can not demonstrate the tranquillity. Now click on "Back to the Map" (bottom LHS of screen). Now zoom out, and see just how central the gîte is to the 4 Departements of Dordogne, Lot, Lot-et-Garonne and Tarn-et-Garonne.
