About the Owner

I spent several years painstakingly restoring this Provençal mas to its former glory, with a few essential mod cons like the heated pool, air conditioning and a kitchen fit for an amateur chef (that would be me). I restored this house to bring together my grown up family in a beautiful, peaceful surrounding where adults and children can have fun, relax and enjoy the surroundings. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Wonderful well equipped holiday home

  • 5 of 5

We are a family group of ten, and this house was perfect for us. It would comfortably take 12 people as it is well equipped so it was not necessary to run the dishwasher too frequently in order to have enough crockery, glasses etc. We were really lucky with the weather and had every meal outside in the dappled shade under the bamboo roof - wonderful. The terrace - right outside the kitchen door so very convenient - has a lovely view towards Montmeyan.

There is plenty of outside space, and a selection of equipment to use to make the most of it, including a table tennis table under the trees, and a set of boules. The pool was a lovely temperature - three of the teenagers swam in the dark and one of our party took some good photographs of the night sky as there is very little light pollution.

The bathrooms are clean and modern and the kitchen attractive. There is air-conditioning in all the rooms which was very welcome as the temperature was in the 30s most of the time. We had several keen walkers in our party who had no trouble finding good places to explore, and two trips to the lake - about an hour or so away - resulted in some good swimming and a lively catamaran sail.

The newish restaurant in Montmeyan provided us with a very good meal one night although they did have a little trouble serving our party of ten so we had a bit of a wait.

All in all a lovely place for a holiday.

Lovely Provencal Retreat

  • 5 of 5

What a great experience we have had at this property. We have stayed at other houses before but this one house and hosts made us seem so welcomed. Every detail was thought of for our stay; cleaned immaculate inside and out, built in expresso /coffee machine, well maintained underground pool, relaxing outside lounge area, and ping pong table.

It is a quick bike or walk into town for fresh bread and croissants. If you forgot anything the convenience store in town is adequate. The quaint country road leading into the town is populated with cow pastures, wild flowers, a friendly donkey stable; we called them the Three Amigos and a horse stable. I believe you can pay to ride the horses/ponies, though we chose not. As for myself, I spent a great deal of time taking in the landscape, walking and staring mindlessly at the herd of cows meandering up and down the pasture just below the house.

This was the perfect place for our vacation. Just choose the right friends/family (lol), vino, and take some time off life!

Idyllic family getaway

  • 5 of 5

The house was spacious and comfortable, clean and well maintained and perfectly situated. Fully air conditioned house and heated pool made for exceptional comfort. The house was well equipped with two fridges and ample freezer space and the veranda was a perfect dining area. The location and setting were first class - a wealth of wildlife with butterflies and moths attracted to the lavender borders. A few minutes away from walks and kayaking in the lower Verdon gorges and a little drive away from beautiful Provencal hilltop villages and more exhilarating canyon activities. Excellent local facilities - a short walk to the boulangerie and good restaurants in nearby villages. Overall a perfect place for a family holiday with something for everyone.

Wonderful place

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful villa, fantastically equipped (the Siemans coffee machine is amazing), great views and walking distance from the village and friendly bar. We were 3 families with adult children - we could all sit around the outside table as well as in the dining room on the one evening it rained. There are numerous outdoor seating areas, table tennis, gorgeous warm salt water pool and plenty of space for all. We kayaked from Quinson (10 mins away) Hiked in the Gorge du Verdon (1 hour's stunning drive) walked up to the church above Moustier Sainte Marie 45 mins drive) and ambled round the market in Aups (20 mins). We walked to get the croissants each morning from Montmeyan. A week was not long enough. This villa is even better than it looks online.. and it looks pretty good - there was even cold wine in the fridge when we arrived, thanks Nicholas

Peace in Provence

  • 4 of 5

Villa Amboutin is the perfect place for those looking for provencale tranquility away from the frenetic pace of St Tropez and the coast. The setting is rural and most importantly completely secluded.

The pool is a good size, although the descent to it is a little treacherous, especially after a good lunch! For those inexplicably looking for more strenuous activity than lying by the pool there is ping pong and pétanque.

The covered terrace is large and comfortable with a fine view of the picturesque local village of Montmeyan across the fields.

The interior is roomy, although we did not spend any time inside other than in the kitchen and to sleep. The bedrooms are comfortable and easily absorbed 11 adults.

We would definitely stay again.

Fantastic French Villa

  • 5 of 5

This villa is one of the best we have stayed in over the last 10 years holidaying in France.

The house has a lovely French rustic charm and was incredibly comfortable; with 4 young children the air-conditioning was a particular godsend as it allowed them to take a break from the glorious weather and ensured they had a relaxing night?s sleep. The grounds were equally fantastic with loads of space and every possible holiday requirement was catered for, from the air conditioning and satellite TV indoors to the heated pool, BBQs (gas and standard), table tennis table and numerous other ball games outdoors; perfect for the children to play and the adults to relax in.

The area surrounding the villa was just as delightful with a short walk to the nearby equestrian centre or to Montmeyan for bread in the morning or a slightly longer drive to the nearby villages and the Gorges.

The owner was also very helpful and accommodating during booking, even increasing the pool temperature for the children, and the cleaner/manager was incredibly friendly during our stay making us all feel very welcome.

I would happily recommend this villa / owner and would love to return again.
