Villa in Barx, Gandia, Costa del Azahar, Spain - Rural Location 10 Minutes Walk To Barx And 15 Minutes Drive To Gandia

A romantic drive 15 minutes from the beach, into the mountains, brings you through the orange groves to this rural villa in its stunning mountain setting. The garden has mature palm trees and fruit trees, pick your own oranges and lemons, grapes and plums. It also has a huge rustic stone barbecue and a modern 8 x 4 private pool, for enjoying those wonderful days spent entirely outdoors in the Spanish sunshine. This property now has a new extra double bedroom with en-suite, on the ground floor. The kitchen has also just been completely renovated.

Great value villa with everything you'll need

Our family of 4 had a fantastic 10 days here at the end of August.

Very good location, not far from a choice of many beaches (about 20-30 minute drive) but in a quieter and more remote location amongst beautiful hills.

The town of Barx is pretty with a couple of small supermarkets, bakery etc and a few bars and restaurants. The city of Gandia is only 20 minutes away with everything else you could possibly need.

The villa itself is great. Nice big private pool that isn’t overlooked and even on the really hot days the balcony has a lovely cool breeze and is a great place to escape the midday sun. The property doesn’t have air-con but all the windows have fly screens and shutters so you can have them open through the day or night to keep the place cool (there are also a number of fans should you need them).

The kitchen is well equipped and there’s even a small book swap with a selection of English novels. One thing that’s not mentioned in the description is that the villa has Wi-Fi.

Carmen’s Father Emilio visits the property most days to check and clean the pool, but he comes early and is very discreet so you hardly even know he’s been.

All in all, we had a great time and would definitely recommend Villa Catalina.

Our best holiday ever

We have had two fantastic holidays lovely villa Catalina. It is perfect for us (4 people family) and would also be marvellous for large family as it is very spacious and very safe being all on one floor. The villa is well equipped with comfy beds and spotlessly clean. The pool is good and a decent size, set in a garden with plants and plenty of space. The owners are very attentive and take care of the pool. They will recommend restaurants etc. This is a great location, just a short drive to beaches, mountains and lovely old towns and villages, also easy access to Valencia on the motorway or by train, but at the same time it is a quiet area so you can relax when you want to. We would highly recommend it and are looking forward to our next holiday. Thank you Emilio and Carmen!

Relax for discerning travellers

It was an amazing and relaxing stay in the heart of "Sierra de Gandia".Close to excellent beaches and coastal amenities(by car) but in a calm and picturesque place.Sun, sea,mountains,vegetation(glorious orange gardens!), air,silence and authentic Spanish rural life in one flask.The villa is well-maintained, the description and fotos is accurate,the garden and pool is beyond comparisons.Restaurant "La Puigmola"(just nearby) and "Imperio II"(by car, 7km, pretender to Michelin star this year) will pamper you with Spanish cuisine,especially "paella mixta".The owners, senor Emilio and senorita Carmen was very hospitable, provide us with all necessary information about the region and solved any problems quickly.I would recommend this property to my friends.

Fabulous, beautifully maintained, natural golden sandy beaches of Tavernes, Cullera and Gandia are 20 minutes drive through the orange groves.

The more commercial, famous beaches at Javea and Denia - with beach side shops and restaurants are about 40 minutes drive.


Car hire is essential due to rural location of the villa.

Nearest airport is Valencia, at about 1 hours drive (motorway).

Alicante airport is approx 2 hours drive from the villa(motorway).


Nearest village is Barx, about 5 minutes drive from the villa. The nearest town is Gandia, about 20 minutes drive through orange groves and a pine covered mountainside.

The elegant city of Valencia is a treat to visit and is a pleasant half-hour train ride through rice paddy fields and orange groves, from Gandia.

Further Details:

Nearby Barx village has 2 supermarkets, 3 butchers, a bakery, a pharmacy, doctor´s surgery, bric-a-brac store, tobacconist/stationers, one smart restaurant and several bars which do cheap canteen type food.

The village of Simat is about 10 minutes down the mountain and has cash machines in several banks - and more bars.

The villa is in a rural setting amongst some other villas in the orange groves and is walking distance from a recommended genuine Spanish paella restaurant.
