Overview

About the property

Cottage in Golant, on the Fowey estuary, Cornwall - Excellent location for a relaxing holiday or as a base to visit Cornwall's many attractions.

Cascade holiday cottage is set in a breathtaking location within the quaint and pretty village of Golant, an area of outstanding natural beauty, just two miles upriver from the historic coastal town of Fowey. The cottage has two large double bedrooms and is ideal for 2 to 4 persons. The cottage enjoys stunning uninterrupted views of the Fowey river and its surrounding ancient woodlands. This is a great base from which to explore the very best of Cornwall. Golant is known for its wonderful location and stunning views across the Fowey estuary. The tides are continually changing and provide an ever-changing backdrop and a fascination to watch. The Cottage is set in its own large and established gardens, with its own private steps up to Gumms Lane (provide access to the Golant Downs and the Saints Way) and also private steps down to Water Lane below (provide access to the quay, river and sandbars).

About Bob Weatherall

We are Bob & Sandra, owners of Cascade Cottage, and we live in Somerset. We have three grown up children. Bob works for a housing association and Sandra is a teacher.

Bob Weatherall purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Bob Weatherall chose Saint Sampson

Cascade Cottage has been in Bob's family for a very long time and was originally an open field used by his grandfather to park a caravan for his holidays. Over many years the caravan became a house, was extended on both sides, passed down through the generations, and in 2012 was split into two properties of which Cascade is now our family holiday cottage. We hope that we can keep the cottage as a forever home, and to let the property out for holidays to cover running costs and give others an opportunity to enjoy this magical setting.

What makes this cottage unique

This is a very special property in an absolutely stunning spot, with panoramic and uninterrupted views across the River Fowey Estuary.

It is a wonderful and beautiful place to have a truly relaxing holiday.

From April 2016, we have subscribed to Owners Direct's online booking and payment system; however if you prefer to book direct with us please send us an email which can be accessed through our website link.

We would be most pleased to answer any questions on anything.

Location

Special interest holidays:

The Fowey Estuary provides many activities including beaches, walks, fishing and boating. Encounter Cornwall is based just below our cottage and provides kayak hire or beginner kayak lessons along the river and the numerous waterside creeks.

Coast/Beach:

River walks are available immediately beside the cottage.

The surrounding beaches are 3 miles travel.

Travel:

Car travel is recommended. The alternative would be a 3 mile taxi journey from Par railway station. The lane access to our private parking is narrow and so please check with the owners beforehand if planning to bring a particularly large car (as a guide anything larger than a standard people carrier could be challenging). There is alternative pay and display parking below the cottage.

Distances:

Cormorant hotel (restaurant) and the Fishermans Arms (real ale village pub) are both within a two minute walk.

Fowey is 3 miles by road.

Comfortable some minor TLC required

  • 4 of 5

Comfortable clean property the glass front would be great in the light summer evenings but in the dark winter evenings with no curtains or blinds did not make the lounge feel very cosy. Kitchen was a bit dark and could do with better lighting again im sure its fine in the summer.

Sharp knives need sharpening, frying pans are no longer non stick. all minor points, overall a pleasant and comfortable stay.

Cascade is a beautiful house in a stunning location

  • 5 of 5

We were lucky with the weather which enabled us to make full use of the outdoor terraces and lose ourselves in the view. We did tear ourselves away to visit Landhydrock, the Eden Project, Fowey and Charlestown all an easy drive from Cascade. The house contained everything we needed and it was such a privilege to stay there. Thank you Bob.

Wonderful and relaxing place to stay

  • 5 of 5

The property is one of the best I have stayed. The all around windows on both floors provide wonderful views and let in all the light. It was very clean and comfortable and not lacking in any equipment or facilities.

However, I noticed several areas where there could be some inprovements, which would make the place absolutely perfect.

1. When you open the glass doors and windows you can see they need a good clean in all the gaps.

2. The bedroom balcony area could also do with a good clean outside.

3. The glass seperators on the conservatory roof are coming loose and allowing water in.

4. The gutters all around the house are blocked up.

5. The gutter around the conservatory is obstructing one of the doors from fully opening.

Finally, please stop switching off the fridge/freezer. If you bring fresh/frozen groceries with you on arrival at the cottage you have to put them in a warm fridge/freezer, which could be a health hazard. It also does not save electricity as it has to work hard bringing the temperature back down, when it would have cost nothing to maintain the temperature if left on.

We wish we had found it years ago!!

  • 5 of 5

On arriving, the view just takes your breath away, and then again every time we came back from a day out. We took very many photos of the view at every time of day and in every weather. Yes we had rain but it didn't dampen our enjoyment of the area. We found plenty to do.

The cottage is well equipped, and has the most relaxing atmosphere. We hope to come again in the very near future, and next time we will bring a fishing rod.

Wonderfully peaceful with an ever changing view

  • 5 of 5

Great location allowing a great view over the Fowey river which being tidal provides an ever changing view, the river is busy with boats, kayaks, SUPPers and wildlife including a seal. The pub is 5 minutes away and has an open music session night, a euchre night and is the focal point of the village, a pint of Sea Fury is recommended and is a bar meal. Some good circular walks and try the kayak tour which is into Foyey and back.we would be happy to return any time of the year.
