Chapelgarth Estate, nestled at the foot of the Cleveland hills, comprises a large and welcoming Edwardian house, built in 1909. The house has big windows which ensure it is light and airy. The house has plenty of areas where adults and children can congregate - it includes a formal drawing room, a family room and a snug room. It has a front lawn and a back courtyard so that guests may sit in the sun at any time of day. Most rooms enjoy views of the Cleveland Hills -The Cleveland way, a favourite itinerary for walkers - is only a five minute drive.

This is our country house and has been our home while our children were little. We love the house and have very fond family memories there.

Why Marcella Sutcliffe chose North Yorkshire

My husband was born here and for three generations Chapelgarth Estate has been a place to enjoy family gatherings, celebrate landmarks, wine and dine with friends and get married. There is a separate 'Artist's Studio' - the Dixon Studio that can be hired for special events - including bouffets and sit-down meals (up to 70 people). The house lends itself beautifully for weddings- the garden or fields comfortably accommodate a teepee or markee and there is ample parking. The house is licensed for holding civil weddings from 2017.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Chapelgarth Estate offers a stunning house located on the edge of the North York Moors. The The pretty market town of Stokesley is just 4 miles away. There are plenty of interesting places to visit, all within a 30 to 40 minute drive. This includes the lovely seaside towns of Staithes, Runswick Bay and Saltburn by the Sea. Whitby and Sandsend are also worth visiting. The North York Moors is ideal for walking and cycling and there are plenty of popular destinations to visit, including the market town of Helmsley which is 20 miles away and Pickering which is famous for its steam railway. Yarm is slightly larger town than Stokesley and good choice for any shopaholics in the group.

This is a great place to stay for family gatherings and celebrations.

We enjoyed a fantastic week at Chapelgarth. The facilities are excellent, and there is loads of room in the house and gardens. There is plenty for adults and children to do, especially the trampoline in the garden. We had a barbecue, which came with the house, although it was quite early in the year.

We felt relaxed in the house, and although the owners were living in the adjoining annexe, we did not feel that we were being observed.

We arranged for a celebration meal with a local caterer, which was excellent.

The llamas were a great attraction!

The property is in a great location, good for relaxing or visiting the North York Moors, the coast and other places of interest.

Stunning manor house

I had my Hen Party at Chapelgarth several years ago. I was recently lucky enough to return with my husband, baby and a large group of friends and their young families. The house is truly special. We loved the spacious living areas and large kitchen and dining room tables which could accommodate all of our group. The bedrooms (many of which are en suite) are beautifully decorated in keeping with the period of the house - our room had a huge, very comfortable, king size 4 poster bed! The children loved the freedom to explore the house and the sunken trampoline was a firm favourite keeping them busy all weekend! We can't wait to return!

Great house and setting. magical for children.

We had a lovely time. Perfect for our family get together. Big rooms, most en suite. Loved the Aga in the kitchen which heated the house, we didn't need the stove or the fires. Lovely area and the garden had great views. Plenty to do if you like walking, or even if you don't. We would like to book again.

AMAZING HOUSE FOR A FAMIILY CELEBRATION

Our stay at Chapelgarth for my husband's 75th Birthday was absolutely great. Our son & daughter and their families all had the most enjoyable time. The grandchildren's ages ranged from 2 to 18 and all of them had a superb time. There were lots of books to read and games to play. The table tennis and darts etc were enjoyed inside and the trampoline was greatly appreciated outside. The tennis court was enjoyed by all of us.

We adored the whole house. The bedrooms were all lovely and we didn't know which to choose. The 3 older children all decided to share one of the top bedrooms as there were so many beds to choose from.

To say it's great for hide & seek is an understatement, as this was enjoyed so much & by the adults as well.

The kitchen is such an inviting and friendly room that we spent the entire Friday night dining in there and playing games afterwards.

Saturday night we dressed smartly for the occasion in dinner suits etc & dined in the wonderful dining room.

The chateau is full of character and we could not have chosen a better place for our party. Also the surrounding area is great as well.

We are so happy to have stayed in such an amazing house and we were made so welcome by the owner and we felt very much at home & relaxed there.

We would most definitely recommend Chapelgarth for a large family celebration.

Perfect family gathering

We spent a fantastic week at Chapelgarth on the edge of the Yorkshire Moors. The property was everything that we hoped it would be. It is a huge house which meant that with 7 adults and a one year old baby there was plenty of space for people to enjoy themselves.

The property is well positioned, with the coast 30mins away and lots of good walks along the Cleveland way within a 10 minute drive. We split our time between days out and days at the house chilling out , playing tennis, table tennis , all available at the house.

The owners of the property went out of their way to make us welcome and ensuring that we had all we needed . We are hoping to make it a regular event for the family to meet up here in the future and I would certainly recommend this property to groups of friends and family looking for a base to meet up.

Another trip to Heaven

There is nothing better than a week at Chapelgarth - except a second week at Chapelgarth. Our 3-generation extended family of 18, from an octogenarian down to a 5-month-old baby have just returned from our second visit and are already planning a third. After a gap of 2 years this lovely house has proved as warm and welcoming as before with its gracious rooms, its spacious bedrooms, its ultra comfy beds, its many bathrooms, mostly en-suite, its quirky corners and snugs and its huge and wonderful kitchen, the hub of the house. The four primary-school-age children have loved sharing what they have named "the cousins' dorm", the teenagers have played tennis, table-tennis, table-footie and darts to their hearts' content and all of them have enjoyed games in the large garden and on its sunken trampoline. The adults have relaxed in house and garden and marvelled at the large and varied contents of the many bookcases. The surrounding area has so many possibilities - one reason we wanted to return - and if you don't feel like cooking, the local village of Great Broughton and nearby Stokesley can cater for all tastes. Chapelgarth is bright, clean and well maintained. In spite of its grandeur it feels like a much-loved family home and one you will want to return to time and time again. We do!
