Quiet and private location with breathtaking panoramic views of the Sierra Tejeda National Park and Lake Viñuela. Well located for visiting attractions, ranging from Ronda in the West to Granada (including the wonderful Alhambra Palace) in the East. Alternatively, there are some fantastic 'typically Spanish bars and restaurants. A short 20 min drive takes you to the coast, a major shopping centre and the bustling Spanish seaside resort of Torre del Mar and its famous fish tapas bars!. Further afield, Granada, Seville, Cordoba, Antequera and Gibraltar are all within travelling distance either by car or train. Malaga itself, the birthplace of Picasso, is only 40 minutes away and well worth a visit (don't just drive past it on the way to the airport!). In the winter, you can go skiing at the well-equipped resort of Solynieve in the Sierra Nevada, which is just under 2 hours drive away.

Notes on accommodation: There is a water deposit(2000L) + pumpsystem Outside: Outside dining and BBQ area with large terrace, 6 sun loungers, garden furniture and very comfortable terrace furniture. You can enjoy the magnificent views of the lake and the mount Maroma from the pool and terraces. There is a gas BBQ and two gas burners for outside cooking. Well maintained swimming pool of 8 by 4 m. There is also a handy rotary clothes line. The whole property is fenced with a lot of privacy. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen, bath towels and tea towels are provided. Property is cleaned prior to arrival. Guests have to provide their own beach and pool towels. Other: There is central heating in all the rooms, much appreciated from November until March. Checkin/checkout : in order to allow our housekeeper the necessary time for cleaning and setup, we ask to respect the checkout (10:00 am) and checkin (4:00 pm) time.

Excellent value for money. Comfortable villa with everything you need

Quite remote you definitely need a car. Big supermarkets a good10 k away in velez but shopping there is excellent. Villa comfortable and well equipped and any queries or problems dealt with immediately by the housekeepers. Romanes is a tiny hamlet in top of the hill and has an excellent restaurant. We took our dogs with us and enjoyed great walks around the lake. In the winter the temperature can be at least 10 degrees colder at the villa than on the coast - we often went out in jackets and ended up in t shirts in Torre! We very much enjoyed exploring all the coastal towns, walking along the promenades, and lunching in the chiringitos on the beach. We also explored inland and visited some lovely remote and fascinating little villages. The walk from the football pitch at lake vinuela into the small town of vinuela is excellent.

Lovely, well maintained house with gorgeous views

The house is very spacious, well maintained and was very clean by our arrival. The large terrasses are absolutely great and well functioning - anytime of day you can find either sun or shade at your pleasure.

The panorama views from the terasse are magnificent - we spent hours just enjoying the changing lights on the mountains.

Also kitchen is well supplied with all the kitchenware you need.

Other guests have commented on the lack of air-con i the bedrooms. Well, there are actually ceiling fans in every room and combined with air-con in living room/kitchen area this was quite sufficient for us, even though it was july.

The only small thing not perfect was that the pool was not clean on arrival and the pool circulation pump didn't function properly, causing the pool water to collect quite a lot of dust and unfortunate insects during our 10 day stay. On the first morning we called the provided phone number on this issue and was very pleased that immediate action was taken: The pool maintenance guy arrived within just 20 minutes (very fast service)! He cleaned the pool and returned again next day for a follow up. But he did not solve the basic problem with the circulation pump (which he refused to acknowledge). We accepted that this was probably as good as it would get, and the lack of water circulation didn't prevent us from using the otherwise lovely pool during our stay (although it made the water somehow a little less inviting). However, I wouldn't advice other guests to refrain from rentning this house on this issue, because on the morning of our departure day we learned that it actually could get better: a different pool guy showed up along with the first, and together they were somehow able to do what couldn't be done earlier: make the circulation pump function. So if you experience this issue, my advice would be to be just a little more insisting than we were and phone the very friendly lady on the provided number again if problem is not solved the first time.

That was many words on an actually small issue which didn't deduct very much from our overall impression of a very lovely house on a beautiful spot. We would love to return.

Once our local housekeeper should have been aware of the fact that the first intervention wasn't effective, it would have been solved as fast as it can. Since your visit, there were no more problems with the pool pump. Anyway, we apologize for the inconvenience.

Outstanding in all areas.

We were met at the Villa by the owner whose main concern was making sure our stay was perfect. The villa has certainly got the WOW factor. The decor exquisite both inside and out. The soft furnishings, bed linen and towels are of an extremely good quality. There are lots of personal touches which add to the elegance of this villa. The pool area is superb ans spotlessly clean. It is the kind of villa where you could load up with food and drink and want to dine there every night. There is lots of lovely restaurants near by and extremely reasonably priced. Local supermarkets nearby. A big reassurance was that if anything broke down which is sometimes avoidable , there is a maintenance person nearby who can easily rectify things. I cannot fault this rental one bit. It certainly exceeded our expectations and would not hesitate to recommend

A lovely tranquil base from which to explore Andalucia.

We had a very restful stay at Los Romanes, even though we fitted in day trips to Granada, Cordoba, Ronda and Malaga. We also had a very mystical visit to Comares in the lifting fog - all highly recommended. We found the pool and the terrace was a great place to unwind, eat and play games. A few quibbles that moved our star rating from 5 to 4. We never mastered the television so we did without that. We could not get the CD player to work either so we used the DVD player which diminishes the sound quality. Also worth considering investing in some better quality mattresses and air con in bedrooms to aid with better sleep. We loved the Venta El Charco on our visit - it is well advised to book. Nerja was our coastal town of choice - nice cafes in Plaza de Espana for coffee, churros etc.

a beautiful villa, not overlooked with an amazing view.

The directions to the villa were great, it was easy to find save for the last turnoff as it was off the beaten track and you wouldn't even have known it was a road at first but we did find it within minutes. The villa itself was gorgeous, the view really was to die for and we never tired of it. The kids (aged 9 and 7) loved the pool. We did have a problem with the filters not coming on first of all but David was quick to come round and sort it. The kitchen was well equipped. The photos don't do the interior justice to be honest, its very spacious.

The outdoor terrace was lovely, I spent a lot of my time there reading and considering the view... very peaceful.

You do have to drive to get to shops or restaurants but it does say that in the write up and we knew this before we arrived.

There is a Lidl within 20 mins drive and you can stock up with everything very cheaply from there for bbqs etc (v nice rose rioja)

The only negative for us was that the air conditioning is only in the lounge. The fans aren't really enough in the bedrooms in late July and August in our opinion, it was very hot. Saying that it certainly didn't retract from the holiday and I would have no hesitation in recommending this villa if you want to get away from it all and have total relaxation.

Perfect

Stayed for 1 week, myself, partner and 2 year old son. We couldn't have asked for a better first holiday. The gate to the pool was a god send, as was the shaded terrace. The villa itself was spotless and had all the necessary facilities, the DVD player was a god send for our little one meaning when the sun was too strong he could sit and enjoy a dvd while we could soak it up on the sun loungers. We used the bbq most days and nights which is another nice touch to this beautiful villa. A car is necessary as there isn't much around (walking distance) but apart from that I would definitely recommend for families!

Many thanks for our wonderful stay. We don't want to leave!!

Drawing and painting are very popular in the area due to the dramatic views. Horse riding /trekking available locally along with canoeing and sailing on lake Viñuela.

Travel:

The nearest and largest airport is Malaga which is about 45 mins drive. Granada airport is now becoming more popular with some cheap no frills flights from the UK. From here it is about 75 mins drive to the Villa and it is very easy to find (directions supplied from both airports). Car hire is essential and is relatively cheap from both airports as long as you pre-book.

Location Information: Villa Mariposa is situated on the very edge of Lake Viñuela with magnificent views across the lake and over to Mount Maroma. Just a 45 minute drive from Malaga airport brings you to the idyllic region of Axarquia - a peaceful, relaxing and beautiful area of rolling hills and stunning mountain scenery. The area is surrounded by the small whitewashed villages (pueblos) of Alcaucin (15mins drive), La Viñuela (10 mins), Los Romanes (7 Mins), Puente Don Manuel (10mins) and Periana (20mins), all with restaurants, bars and small shops. The capital of Axarquia is Velez-Malaga (20mins); The nearest beach is at Torre del Mar (25mins) Other places of interest include the coastal town of Nerja (35mins); the ever fashionable Marbella/Puerto Banus (75mins); the beautiful and historic city of Seville (120 mins); the wonderful city of Granada and the Alhambra Palace (90mins). The nearest supermarket is in La Vinuela (10 mins) and the nearest restaurants are a 7-10 min drive away.

The excellent restaurant of Los Romanes is only 10/15 min walking. Golf: There are two excellent 18 hole golf courses nearby, Bavaria Golf (15mins away) and Club Añoreta (25 mins away). In addition there are over 50 golf courses throughout the Costa del Sol with full details available on request. Ski: You may wish to go skiing in the Sierra Nevada in the winter season which is less than 2 hours drive away. The season is open from November to May depending on weather conditions.

The local Medical centre, a small supermarket, pharmacy and a cash machine can be found in the village of La Viñuela just 8 mins away. There is also a good water park in Torre Del Mar, across from Eroski, the large shopping center.
