Cottage in Waterhouses, Nr. Ashbourne, Derbyshire, England - Peaceful Location With Walks From The Doorstep

Comfortable well equipped cottage, located at the end of the Manifold Valley, mid way between the market towns of Ashbourne and Leek. The cottage is situated in a quiet cul de sac on the edge of the village and benefits from an enclosed rear garden with patio furniture and a private drive providing off road parking for two vehicles. It is heated by oil fired central heating. Heating, electricity, bedding and towels are included in the price, as is Wifi. Owner contact number 01780 470593.

The cottage is located in a superb walking and cycling area and is an ideal base from which to explore the many attractions in the area. The Manifold Trail which is a surfaced track suitable for both walking and cycling runs for 8.5 miles between Waterhouses and Hulme End. Other cycle and walking trails within the area include the Tissington, High Peak and Monsal Trails. Lovely walks are available along the many miles of footpaths and lanes within the surrounding area and the network of surfaced trails and lanes within the area make the cottage an ideal base for walking all year round. Dovedale, Thorpe Cloud and the pretty village of Ilam are less than a 15 minute drive away.

Historic houses and gardens within the area include Chatsworth House with its farmyard, adventure playground and the many events held there throughout the year; Haddon Hall, Tissington Hall (restricted opening) and various National Trust properties including Sudbury Hall with its museum of childhood, Calke Abbey, Kedleston Hall and Biddulph Grange Gardens. Chatsworth House is well worth a visit in November/December for its Christmas market (17th November - 5th December) with over a hundred stalls plus its own shop. Depending on the date of your visit, why not combine the Christmas market with Christmas at Chatsworth where the ground floor of the house is transformed with decorations from 11th November to 5th January. Carsington Water which is within easy travelling distance of the cottage offers water sports, sailing, cycle hire, fishing, a children's play area and a bird watching centre with several hides, or you can just walk around the reservoir (a full circuit is around 8.5 miles). Two miles north of Leek is Rudyard Lake with it's miniature railway and activities on offer include walking, fishing and boating. For the more adventurous, the Swains Centre near Buxton offers go-karting, trial biking and a small synthetic ice rink, or visit Wild Park Derbyshire, between Ashbourne and Derby for paint balling, laser tag, quad biking and archery.

The pretty market towns of Bakewell, Ashbourne, Leek & Buxton (renowned for its spa water and Opera House) are all well worth a visit and easily accessible from the cottage.

Other attractions within the area include Gulliver’s Kingdom & the Heights of Abraham at Matlock; Poole’s country park, caverns and Go Ape at Buxton; Alton Towers and Splash Landings indoor pool (10 minute drive), The Peak Wildlife Park (10 minute drive); Waterworld at Stoke; Crich tramway museum and the Churnet Valley Railway. The National Memorial Arboretum, Tamworth Snow dome and Drayton Manor Theme Park are all within travelling distance of the cottage.

All this and more is close to the cottage to keep you busy for the whole period of your holiday, or you can just relax and enjoy the peace and tranquility of this beautiful part of England.

There is a separate garage for the storage of bikes and this also contains a selection of bikes which are available for guests to use. There is also a cycle hire centre in the village, a village shop, pub and cafe. Smoking is not permitted inside the cottage. Pets accepted by prior arrangement.

Comfortable home from home

We had a great 5 night holiday in this superb, clean, well equipped and comfortable cottage in a peaceful location. Couldn't fault the cottage and the weather we had was great so were able to sit outside in the lovely enclosed garden after busy days out exploring the beautiful Peak District. The owner was very helpful and informative. Would highly recommend this cottage and would have no hesitation in re-booking.

Lovely stay

My husband and 2 friends stayed here for a biking holiday, they were able to walk to the pub for dinner to make up for all those calories they had burned riding their bikes. Everything was in good order and clean. The owner is very helpful and very prompt to answer any questions.

Couldn't have asked for more!

We had the most wonderful stay in this beautiful cottage.

It was so well equipped, much more than we could have expected. Our children played happily for hours with the games and Lego and enjoyed the garden and space to run very much.

There really was nothing about our stay that we could fault, and having such a clean and comfortable base for our adventures made it all the better.

Great weekend away

Had a break away with my 2 daughters, granddaughter and 2 dogs. The house was perfectly placed for long walks and beautiful countryside. A warm, well equipped, and impeccably clean house which all contributed to an enjoyable stay.

A lovely cottage in a lovely place!

We had a lovely time here, the owners of the cottage really have thought of everything it was like home from home, but surrounded by beautiful countryside views, so many options to go walking or cycling or whatever you fancy, I'd recommend this place 100% and we would like to go back.

Really enjoyed our stay in this wonderful cottage in waterhouses. Best cottage we have stayed in with great walks from the doorstep. Fully equipped with everything that you could possibly want or need. Very clean and cosy cottage in a great area on the edge of the peak district. Will definitely stay here again.

Waterhouses is located on the A523 approximately 7 miles from the towns of Ashbourne and Leek and 5 miles from Alton Towers and Dovedale. The Manifold Trail starts from the village and ends in Hulme End a distance of just over 8 miles.

Shop, pub and cafe/takeaway within easy walking distance. Good range of supermarkets in both Leek and Ashbourne. Banks available in both towns. Doctors surgery within the village, plus children's play area.

Fees No additional mandatory fees

Booking Notes:
Booking is direct with the owner so no additional fees are incurred. Provisional bookings can be made by either email through the website or telephone (01780 470593) and will be confirmed upon receipt of a completed booking from and deposit. Deposit is 25% of the total price of the holiday for breaks of 4 nights or more, 50% for short breaks (minimum of 3 nights). Provisional bookings will be kept for 10 days from date of booking although this period can be extended upon request.The balance is payable one month before the start of the holiday.

Changeover Day:
Our usual changeover day is Saturday but this is negotiable. Guests may arrive after 3.00p.m. at the start of the holiday and we ask that they depart by 10.00a.m. at the end of their stay.

Notes on prices:
Prices quoted are for a full week Saturday to Saturday. Alternative start days are available upon request. 3 night breaks are available out of peak season.
