About the Owner

My partner Tony & I were looking to invest in another property in Oxenhope, being the place where we live. We didn't want to just rent the cottage out full time, we wanted to also provide a service so we decided to go down the route of holiday letting. As we live in the area we knew all the advantages that came with it. We wanted to create a holiday home that we would be pleased to arrive at ourselves, and to provide the basics of everyday life. We both work in the city so it is lovely to come home to the peace & quite of rural life.

Cottage & location idyllic. Did everything we intended to do, Oxenhope to Keighley steam train. Walk to Top Withens & the Railway Children Walk. Visits to Haworth, Skipton, Saltaire and Bolton Abbey. A fabulous week, to be repeated.

Excellent cottage, beautiful area - walk to Bronte Falls & Top Withens a must. In Haworth, try River Street Café for fresh home made food. Dog & Gun & Grouse excellent food.

July 2014 - P & R - Cambridgeshire

Wonderful, well equipped cottage. We had a fantastic peaceful holiday. We enjoyed the room at the top of the stairs, reading and watching the sunset and the fantastic views.

June 2014 - C & D - Canada

We have thoroughly enjoyed our time here at Stone Cottage. We have seen a great deal in the week and only wish we could stay longer. Just fell in love with the area and it's people, thank you.

Brilliant peaceful stay. Our first trip to Yorkshire and we have not been disappointed. Lovely cottage and lovely attentive hosts, what more could you ask for. We will definitely be back, we feel we haven't scratched the surface in exploring this beautiful part of the country.

Lovely Property

  • 4 of 5

Lovely property and really well equipped with plenty of crockery and all the utensils you would ever need. Especially liked the open fire on the December chilly evenings !!

Only slight negative was would be good to have had a spare duvet on hand for the sofa bed when my wife had to escape from my loud snoring !! She had to make do with just a blanket.

Relaxing holiday in a cosy cottage

  • 5 of 5

Had a lovely week in this comfortable and welcoming cottage. Highly recommended for couples. We relaxed by the fire, read books and watched the sun go down by the picture window on the mezzanine floor. Much to explore in the area. I hope we'll return.

nestled in Oxenhope

  • 4 of 5

the cottage had everything I needed: a comfortable bed, kitchen requisites, living room wifi etc,

I only wished I could have managed some walks because the surrounding area begged for that! But I did manage two things that were top on my agenda. I found the family farm and church re my Woodhead forbears and in Leeds the church(now the Minster) where my great great great grandparents-John Fox and Elizabeth Christiana Clarkson were married in 1817! And also located Call Lane which was only a street or two away from the Minster. Just a few small things, but they are important to me.

The other thing I wanted was to stoke my writing and perhaps inspire some new stories. That also happened. The environment, a West Yorkshire village, was totally different in what it invoked to the other cottage I stayed in in Wester Ross in Scotland. And the two kernels of the stories that will come from them also are quite naturally very different.

So, while I was restricted by my physical limitations with the walking- and a little daunted by the driving environment! - I did manage to get a sense of the place.

Sadly, it turned out, I didn't meet my delightful neighbour until the last day.

Thankyou Dianne.

I hope that your medical appointment went well.

Lavinia.

p.s. when I get my Yorkshire tales up and running I may send you one or two to see what you think!

Super bolt-hole

  • 5 of 5

Have just spent a glorious week in this lovely cottage. Everything you need for a cosy, peaceful stay. The mezzanine provides a fanastic outlook whilst reading or day-dreaming! A first time visit to this area of Yorkshire but hopefully not the last as the walking was superb with fantastic views (especially with the warmest spell this spring). The steam train ride at weekends is a must.

Whatever you do Stone Cottage is always there to warmly welcome you home.

A Wonderful retreat in Bronte Country

  • 5 of 5

What a super little cottage this, well equipped and maintained by its owners it is a little gem. Great for a getaway in the Yorkshire countryside and very convenient being just a brisk walk (circa 2 miles) from Howarth - or if feeling lazy - take the train and pretend to be one of the “Railway Children” or the bus which stops right outside the door – brilliant.

Stone cottage has everything a couple or a family of 3 needs for a great self-catering vacation or if you want to dine out we can heartily recommend the Dog & Gun, sadly we did not have time to try the many other local restaurants and pubs.

Would we stay here again – mostly definitely
