Big Sky (sleeps 4 + 2)

Big Sky offers light, airy accommodation. A spacious, double aspect, open plan fitted kitchen/dining/living area opens into the sunny garden room. The mezzanine sleeping gallery (king size double bed) has a balcony overlooking fields and the coastline. On the ground floor we have built two fantastic adult bunk beds adjacent to the wet room. The garden room has a day bed which can be used as a single bed at night. In the living area there is a comfy sofa bed and ample seating for 6, also Freeview TV/Playstation 2/radio/books and games. Two sets of French doors lead to the private decked terrace - garden furniture makes it perfect for barbecues and 'al fresco' dining. The terrace is enclosed making it safe for young children and pets. There is access to shared laundry facilities and on-site parking and secure bicycle storage. A welcome tray is prepared for your arrival. As owner on site, I am happy to provide any help you need to make your stay enjoyable.

Big Sky and Martin's Nest are housed side by side in a converted wash house and annexe. Ladybird provides adjoining new studio accommodation.The properties are stylish and comfortable. Big Sky, is perfect for families. It sleeps 4 + people in flexible accommodation. It is a light, airy, open plan property containing a mezzanine sleeping gallery with balcony. At ground level are two built in adult size bunk beds, a spacious living/ dining area, wet room and garden room ( with day bed ) leading to an enclosed decked terrace. Martin's Nest and Ladybird provide well equipped studio accommodation - just right for 2. The tranquil location is ideal for walking, bird watching, fishing and sailing on the Norfolk Broads or just lazing on the nearby quiet, sandy beaches of Winterton, a safe 15 min walk using the bridle path adjacent to the garden. Gt. Yarmouth, the medieval city of Norwich, NT properties and many tourist attractions are only a short drive away. Our aim is to help you rest and relax under the big skies of Norfolk and we will prepare a tea tray ready for your arrival to welcome you. Our properties have flooring suitable for dogs and we welcome well behaved pets in Big Sky and Martin's Nest. Big Sky has a gated decked terrace leading to the shared large enclosed grassed garden area - ideal for guests with a pet or young child.

About Diane Le Grice

The White House has been my family home since 1979. Since retiring from nursery education I decided to convert the wash house and annexe adjacent to the house into unique holiday homes in order that others might enjoy the birds, wildlife, peace and tranquility of the Norfolk countryside and nearby unspoilt beaches. My family are grown up now, but still can't wait to get back to East Somerton and revisit familiar haunts, especially winter walks to see the seals on Horsey beach, with a pub lunch to follow. I manage the lettings myself and take pride in what we have to offer. I love to welcome visitors to this area of Norfolk and am happy to provide any help or information you might need to ensure you have the best possible time while you are here.

Why Diane Le Grice chose Somerton

We love the peace and tranquility of the Norfolk countryside and it's coast. Here we have the best of both worlds. The house and adjoining holiday cottages are set amongst fields, yet the village of Winterton-on-Sea with it's well known dog friendly pub, beach cafe, P.O, fish and chip shop and wide sandy beach is only a ten minute walk along the bridle path that runs beside the garden. As a family we enjoy the fact that the beach, bird-watching, walks and cycling trails are on our doorstep. Although our home and holiday cottages are situated in an idyllic rural location, Norwich, National Trust properties, The Broads, tourist attractions and countless pretty Norfolk villages are easily reached by car.

What makes this cottage unique

The adjacent holiday cottages overlook a SSSI where many native and migratory birds can be seen - ideal for bird watchers and walkers. All have their own entrance and outside terrace as well as access to the large shared garden. Martin's Nest and Ladybird both sleep 2 and offer brilliantly designed studio accommodation all on one level. Big Sky sleeps 4 + and is light, airy and spacious. The large open plan area has comfortable dining/seating for 6. Two bunk beds, a garden room with day bed and a mezzanine sleeping gallery with queen size double bed offer flexible accommodation to suit a family or a group of friends. All properties are stylish and comfortable. There is ample room for parking and secure bicycle storage. A small child's ready bed, a travel cot and high chair are available free on request and a welcome tray is provided for guests on arrival.

Please note the flexible sleeping arrangements in our family cottage, Big Sky. Look carefully at the provision of beds to check it is suitable for your requirements. Previously this quirky property was my nursery school. There is one mezzanine sleeping area with double bed plus the two bunk beds next to the wet room and a day bed in the garden room. A Trundle bed, travel cot and ready bed are also available on request at no extra charge. An extended family group or friends holidaying together may find booking Big Sky and Martin's Nest more suitable. ( 10% reduction when booking more than one property ). Big Sky has a lovely open plan living/ dining area with plenty of room for 6 to dine and relax together using Martin's Nest when required. This arrangement is especially suitable for families including grandparents.
Changeover Day:
Usually changeover for weekly bookings is on a Saturday. Shorter lets are possible outside July and August see calendar and rates information. Try us for late notice bookings, min 2 nights. On departure we ask that guests leave by 10.30am with arrivals after 3pm. Please contact us if you have different requirements and we will do our best to help.
If your arrival date is within 6 weeks full payment is required on booking.
Dogs are welcome, please discuss with the Owner Diane as we limit dogs to three on site at any one time. There is an additional charge of £20 per pet stay.
Notes on prices:
We welcome guests all year round. Short breaks available out of season. Prices shown for Big Sky and Martin's Nest include 7 day rental Saturday to Saturday. Ladybird is available all year round at a nightly rate ( min 2 nights ).
Reduced rentals offered for booking 2 properties for the same period and longer rentals in low season.
Rental rates include gas, electricity, central heating, towels, bedroom and kitchen linen.
A well behaved dog is welcomed at £15 per pet stay in Big Sky and Martin's Nest.

Notes on accommodation: Big Sky offers great family accommodation. The mezzanine gallery has a king size bed and balcony with countryside views for the adults. Downstairs next to the wet room are two big curtained bunk beds. The day bed in the garden room offers additional private sleeping space. The beautifully presented living area with seating for 6, opens into the garden room with French doors to the enclosed decked terrace. Martin's Nest: Studio accommodation, screened double bed plus additional sofa bed in living area. Separate fitted kitchen and wet room. Ladybird: sunny studio accommodation with king size bed, sitting area, kitchenette and shower room. All properties have Freeview TV/ DVD/iPod Dock/boosted wifi/hair dryer/ books and games. All heating, electricity, towels and bedding included. Properties are cleaned at changeover and guests have access to a Laundry room. Well behaved dogs welcomed ( max 2 on site). Strictly non smoking. Discount for booking more than one property. Outside: Big Sky, Martin's Nest and Ladybird, all have feature French doors that open to the garden with views across fields to the Norfolk coastline. Each property has it's own outside area with garden furniture. There is an extensive shared garden with lots of space for children to play. Outside storage contains Weber Charcoal BBQ's, deckchairs and sun loungers plus children's toys for use in the large sand pit. Additional seating and a pergola are placed where guests are able to make the most of the idyllic garden location. Big Sky has a bedroom balcony offering sunrise views across marshes, fields and woodland. Ladybird, our new studio accomodation, also has a large south facing window which overlooks the landscaped front of house garden.The sheltered courtyard entrance at the front of the properties faces west and is the ideal place in which to sit with a glass of wine and enjoy the evening sun.

Loved it from start to finish. First class quality accommodation and a great location for dog walking, running, and Seal watching. The open plan accommodation enabled us to all interact as a family which is sometimes lost in the busy everyday lives we lead. Thank you Diane.

Historic buildings, such as Blickling Hall, Sandringham and the medieval city of Norwich with it's castle and cathedral are a great focus for a day out.

BewilDerwood, one of the country's top 10 children's attractions is at Horning, a 25 min drive away.

The rural location of Big Sky Cottages on the edge of the Norfolk Broads offers an ideal base for day sailing or cruising on the rivers. Boats can be hired from local small boatyards or the larger villages such as Wroxham, known as the centre of the Broads.

Many special interest courses are available in the area, we will do our best to source information for you on request.

The unspoilt sandy beach of Winterton-on-Sea is a 15 min walk away along the bridle path that runs beside the property. A 2 min drive takes you to the car park and Beach Cafe on the dunes right beside the beach. Winterton Dunes are a nature reserve and popular with bird watchers and walkers. The ever growing seal colony can be viewed during the pupping season, Nov - Jan, on the beach at Horsey and can be seen in the sea most of the year. There are plenty of other quiet beaches all the way along the Norfolk coast, most have a pub or tea room nearby.

Further Details:

The Fisherman's Return at Winterton is a 10 min walk along the bridle path, good food with seating outside - a popular local haunt. A very dog friendly pub.

The Dunes Cafe is situated right next to the beach and car park. This is highly recommended for its bacon rolls, full English breakfasts, light lunches and home made cakes. Open every day in high season and and at weekends during winter months.

The Horsey Nelson, also recommended is near the N.T. property Horsey Mill.

The Swan at Ingham is a 20 min drive away if you want a special gourmet meal at a realistic price.

The beach and dunes at Winterton are a National Nature Reserve and well worth a visit at any time of the year, a fantastic walking/bird watching area. In summer the unspoilt beach has all you need - a beach cafe, car park and toilets.

Winterton, the beach, pub and cafe were noted as one of the world's top 30 destinations by an author of The Rough Guide.

Good fishing is to be found locally, links given on our website.

Martham is the nearest village for grocery shopping having 2 Co op shops, a butchers, bakery and take away Chinese.

Larger supermarkets can be found at Stalham and Caister.

Nearest bank and railway station are in Acle, or Great Yarmouth.

Norwich itself is a fascinating medieval city with a Norman castle, two cathedrals and a six day market. It is recognised as one of the top ten shopping destinations in the U.K. It not only has the usual large department stores and shopping malls but also winding streets and alleys of small boutiques and shops, known as 'The Lanes'.

If you prefer a traditional seaside atmosphere the resort of Great Yarmouth, with it's funfair, pier and circus is a 20 min drive away.
