Charming town house centrally located in the Historic town of Vence sleeps 4/6

Updated: 17-Oct-2016
Provencal townhouse in town centre, with lots of original features and roof terrace, sleeps 4/6

A delightful 18th Century town house in the heart of the medieval village of Vence. Situated down a quiet side street, it is only a few steps away from the local farmers market in the morning, the delicious smelling bakeries and the main square cafés (Place du Grand Jardin). There is also a public underground car park within a 1 minute walk from the house.

Owned by the same family for two generations this cosy french town house has kept it's original stone walls and wooden beamed ceilings and has local art throughout. It is on 5 floors with a spacious and bright open plan salon and kitchen on the 4th floor with all the necessary amenities (WIFI/TV , large dining table, Electric stove and oven) for relaxing and entertaining.

It has two bedrooms, one with a kingsize bed and en-suite bathroom and toilet, the other with twin beds that can convert into a double bed if desired with an en-suite shower room and toilet. In the downstairs lounge on the ground floor there is a double sofa bed (sized suitable for 2 children to share or one adult and a child).

The fifth floor has a small tranquil roof terrace with marble table & chairs overlooking the provencal rooftops with mountain/sea views. Ideal for a bit of sunbathing, finishing a good book or enjoying a glass of Rosé at aperitif time in the cool evening air!

The closest public car park is a 1 minute walk away (under the Place du Grand Jardin) and has a great deal for a weekly subscription.

Vence also has regular buses to all the “must see” destinations of the Cote d'Azur. St Paul de Vence for the Arts, Grasse for it's perfumeries, Cannes for the Croisette and beaches and Nice for an authentic Southern France City day out. Centrally positioned and only half an hour from the International Airport Vence is an ideal base for visiting the French Riviera!

Fantastic French house

  • 5 of 5

We were greeted at the house by the local agent Melissa, who showed us round and made sure we had everything we needed, including a bottle of Rose, which was lovely. The house was perfect for us, and the roof terrace was the cherry on the top.

The stairs kept us fit all week, but there was everything we needed in the house to make for a lovely week.

The town of Vence is really lovely. The house is bang in the centre but in a little side street so it takes seconds to get to the old town, but you're tucked away.

We'd recommend Henry's Bar for your first coffee of the day and watching the world go by, and plenty of patisseries for the all important breakfast and we had a lovely meal in Le Pigeonnier on the last night, which made us wish we'd gone there sooner.

All in all a fantastic holiday and we're all still suffering from post Vence blues.

A beautiful house (LOTS of stairs) close to the cafes and open air pool

  • 5 of 5

The house is stunning (huge beams and tasteful decor) and comfortable, though set over so many floors you need to be fit! The roof terrace is amazing; you can see the sea and hills and catch the breeze, pull out the awning or enjoy sunbathing in private.

Despite such proximity to the buzz of the town it's incredibly quiet and peaceful.

Everything we needed was supplied and easy to use.

I would absolutely recommend this property for families (possibly not toddlers because of the stairs), couples or friends sharing.

The perfect house for our family

  • 5 of 5

Located down a wonderful narrow street, this house is the perfect base from which to explore Vence and surrounds. Our family of four loved the house, and all of its character - there are plenty of stairs to help work off the amazing pastries! We had no need of a car, with the bus and shops readily accessible.

This was a family holiday to remember.

A delightful lucky choice.

  • 5 of 5

Luck was certainly with us when my friend and myself opted for this property. It is everything that others have written. We loved it. We felt so at home in it and it's situation couldn't be bettered. It is on five levels, including the wondrous sun terrace, and so it is not suitable for people with mobility problems. As with town houses, the only way is up! We each had one of the two main bedrooms which were spacious and had lots of storage space, particularly the lower twin bedded room. The kitchen/living area, which is on the third floor, is, again, spacious and comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. We loved Vence. It is so French! Yes, there are the "tourists" but they affect life in Vence not a jot. It is also a good base for exploring other places. We used the bus all the time. Number 94 serves Vence from Nice and the 400 serves Vence from Nice via St Paul de Vence. Both buses stop at the airport for arrival and departure. At 1.50 Euros however long the journey, it's a good option. Do make use of the Tourist Office in Vence. There is so much to see other than the coast.

Brilliant location, beautiful home, fantastic view from terrace.

  • 5 of 5

This property is an absolutely beautiful old building. It's situated right across the road from the entrance to the old town. There's a fantastic bakery just at the top of the street, it's a 1 minute walk to the market square at Grand Jardin. We parked in the underground in Grand Jardin. It cost €55 for the week and was well worth it, just be aware that driving into the carpark can get pretty tight. We had a toddler with us, which was challenging considering all the stairs in a 5 story building, but we managed thanks to the stair gates provided by the owner. We found Vence to be really pretty and the perfect base for trips to Saint Paul de Vence (10 mins), Monaco (1 hour), Nice (30 mins) and Cannes (45 mins). We had most of our meals in the house upstairs on the sunny terrace. The photos here don't really do the place justice, highly recommended!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review, and I'm really pleased you had a enjoyable time in Vence, and loved the house - we always eat and relax up on the Roof Terrace as well after the children have finally gone to bed!! Best regards, James

Lovely townhouse in Vence

  • 5 of 5

We had great time with family of five in this lovely townhouse in Vence. The house was equipped as it was written in description, clean and well-maintained and we were welcomed by very helpful agent Melissa and bottle of rose:) House is suitable for families with older children (up from 5) because of the stairs connecting each floor. Location is perfect for exploring surrounding areas by car-Monaco, Nice, Grasse, Antibes, ST.-Paul etc. And Vence itself is a lovely little town.

From the Owner

There is plenty of space in the house to relax, wine and dine with friends and family, with a large table and lovely adjoining kitchen. The salon is in traditional French open plan style with stone walls, beams and traditional pendant lighting, with fireplace, L- settee and TV. This leads up to a roof terrace rare amongst townhouses in Vence, looking out over the rooftops of the old town, and over to the Baou mountains in one direction and the distant sea in another. We often retreat there for a drink and to eat in the cool evening air!
