About the property

Cottage in Pervencheres, Orne, Normandy, France - Peaceful And Tranquil Rural Location. Gorgeous Views. Excellent Base For Exploring The Perche

Maison Hibou dates back to the end of the French Revolution, and is set in a small hamlet 2km from the village of Pervenchères. The cottage has a light, spacious interior with original features such as thick exposed stone walls, original beams and some solid furniture, reflecting traditional rustic style. Maison Hibou has its own private drive, parking area and garden, and is a quiet and relaxing holiday home, located 20 minutes from Alençon, one hour from Le Mans and Chartres, and two hours from Paris. The local village of Pervenchères is 2km away, and has a small shop/bar/café. Local specialities include cider, calvados, black pudding (boudin noir), and Camembert. This is a great area for walking, cycling, horse-riding, golf and fishing with wonderful scenery, forest tracks and a network of ‘randonées’ to enjoy.

About Debbie Mousley

We live in Leicestershire but come out to La Maurie as often as we can. We have a house next to Maison Hibou (although it's quite separate and private). We've always loved France and have wanted a house here for as long as we can remember. We bought both houses in 2010 and have spent happy times here with family and friends. As soon as you arrive you feel more relaxed and tranquil. We love it here, and hope you will too.

Why Debbie Mousley chose Orne

We discovered the Perche by accident and we can't understand why it's relatively unknown in the UK. It's a very rural area, the roads are almost empty, and the people who live here are just getting on with their (French) lives - it's not touristy, although tourists are welcome and catered for. 10 euro 3-course lunches are still very much part of life, as are the rhythms of farming and the countryside.

What makes this cottage unique

The hamlet is tucked away down its own little track, and even some locals don't know it's there. It really is somewhere to get away from it all.

Great time

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time and loved the gite and the area. Very peaceful and remote, with beautiful villages and walks in the area for day trips if you fancy it. You can get a really nice lunch including 2 courses as well as cheeses and dessert plus 1/4 ltr of wine for 12 euros per head in nearby villages. Would highly recommend it, also because of Debbie who was very helpful and responded immediatly when we booked the gite rather spontaneously. The perfect first holiday with our 3-month-old baby.

A delightful secluded setting

  • 5 of 5

Maison Hibou is a charming rural retreat in a delightful secluded setting. The Gite is a perfect place to relax and the surrounding area offers a wealth of opportunities to explore be it on foot, by bike or further afield by car. I would thoroughly recommend Maison Hibou to anyone who wants to escape the rush of normal life.

Maison Hibou

  • 5 of 5

The house is peacefully located and ideally situated near many small cities and villages worth exploring, the countryside and forests are wonderful for walking and although we didn't bring bikes, cycling would be another option. The house is well equipped and clean with reclining loungers and table and chairs for sitting outside to admire the scenery, we were lucky to see two deer fauns in the pretty garden one evening. There are plenty of leaflets and information giving details of the area. Debbie provides a first class customer service which makes Maison Hibou an easy choice for anyone visiting this area of Normandy.

Maison Hibou

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our visit to Maison Hibou last year so much we made a return visit. Tucked away in the French countryside it is the perfect place to unwind. It is so relaxing sitting in the garden gazing out on the orchard - so peaceful. The gite is clean, comfortable and well equipped. There are plenty of places to visit ie La Perriere, Chateau Carrouges, the Basilica at La Chapelle de Montligeon, Courboyer (just a few of our favourites) but there are plenty of leaflets available in the gite to help you. We cycled and walked and rarely saw any traffic on the roads. Would definitely recommend.

Lovely stay

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved Maison Hibou and found it the perfect escape from London. It has a very rustic feel, with original features such as wooden beams, flagstone floors and a beautiful big open fire (not needed in summer unfortunately!) The garden is also very pretty - we felt our stress melt away as we sat under the apple tree and gazed out over the surrounding orchards. The nearby villages and towns like Perriere and Mortagne au Perche are all lovely to visit, but we liked hanging out at the gite best of all! Would definitely recommend.

Maison Hibou

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely, quiet and relaxing stay, tucked away off the beaten-track, and in beautiful countryside. Not far from good restaurants and interesting places to visit e.g. Chartres, Alencon and several other towns and villages. Gite clean, comfortable and well-equipped. Everything we expected it to be.
