About the Owner

We live in West Yorkshire but regularly spend holidays in Les Contamines skiing, and walking. We love this exquisitly beautiful valley and have been coming here for many years: we love the many different mountain walks and it is a special treat is to observe the wildlife from our own sofa: in winter the deer and ibex can be seen foraging for food on the mountainside. We also enjoy relaxing in the superb new swimming pool in nearby St Gervais. It has 2 childrens pools and a heated outdoor section accessible from the indoor pool.

We do a lot of alpine walking: there are paths you can take from directly behind the chalet which lead up to the Chalet du Truc: you can rest, admire view of the Domes de Miage and have some light refreshment. The views of the glacier and over into the next valley are amazing. There are wild gentians to find. All the paths are well signposted and a good walk to start with is to the Lac d' Armancette. It teams with tadpoles and frogs. Careful attention must be paid to the weather but if you feel nervous, the village runs lots of guided activities to help you explore the area safely.

Great apartment in beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time in the Edelweiss apartment over Easter. The apartment was perfect for a young family - with separate bedrooms for the grown ups and children - their bunk beds were spacious and comfy, and there was a great bathroom and separate loo in between.

The apartment was very well equipped and easy to maintain and we walked into town every day - although quite a steep hill our 4 and 6 year olds managed it easily. There were also great walking routes to the rear of the apartment - and a great area for an easter egg hunt. The skiing was fantastic, with lift passes and ski school much cheaper than bigger, more popular resorts, however the family focus of Les Contamines ensured we had as good, if not better, a time than if we were in a more expensive, well known resort. We couldn't recommend it more highly and the children are constantly asking when we can go back.

New Year 2016

  • 5 of 5

We had a rest a family new year 2016. The House is situated in a very quiet and beautiful location on the edge of the forest. By car to the Centre of the village and the ski lifts just a few minutes. The apartment is very warm and comfortable. Although the apartment is small, has everything you need. The kitchen is enough crockery. The Internet can be rented at the center of tourism. We remained are very happy holiday and a great weekend. Thank you Olivia for quick answers and care.

Christmas 2014

  • 4 of 5

Olivia kept excellent contact with us and called the night before our trip to wish us well. We received a really warm welcome from JoJo the local contact who was available to help throughout our stay. Despite the lack of snow the resort still managed to stay open ( the only one in the area) and still not that many queues for high season. The apartment was compact, very stylish and sufficient for our needs (2 adults/2 children) with beautiful views over the mountains and village below. There is plenty of equipment for the fully self catered, we even manage a full Christmas dinner! I would recommend both the resort and the apartment if you like a quiet, no queue, family friendly resort.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. I look forward to welcoming you again. There is now a superb new swimming pool in St Gervais which is great for relaxing tired muscles and letting children enjoy the water slides. The mountains are usually well covered with snow and there are several other high altitude resorts close by: Flaine and Argentiere. We regularly return to stay in our apartment so as to continue to enjoy the area's beauty and tranquility.

Great views over the valley

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is right at the top of village, in the La Frasse area, with amazing views towards Mont Joly and up the valley towards the ski areas. In the evening the cows come down to the pasture behind the apartment to graze, which makes for some nice tinkling sounds from their bells. It's very quiet, as there's no through traffic. If you don't mind steep tracks then it's really nice to walk straight up the mountain from the apartment into the forest away from the village.

The apartment itself is large enough for two adults and two children. It's not spacious, but there is room for four and you don't feel too cramped compared to the majority of similar ski apartments. The downsides would be that the underground car parking space is very small, and so we had real difficulty getting our Toyota Verso in and out, and given that you're at the top of the village it's a 10 minute walk down to the shops and a 20 minute walk back up again. We caught the free shuttle bus as often as we could, as it's the best way to get around.

Les Contamines is very family friendly, and our two girls adore going there.

From the Owner

My husband and I visited this valley and fell in love with it. The skiing is superb as are its situation for touring or pursuing a variety of sports and interests. We love the peace it offers by virtue of its situation and its proximity to the Contamines nature reserve; we can see deer and ibix grazing from our windows. We never tire of the view of Mont Joly and the waterfall opposite. We tend to drive over from our home in Wakefield but we also collect from or use Geneva airport which is just an hour's drive away. Our grandchildren also come out to enjoy skiing in the winter and swimming in the local lakes in summer. There are also many different types of sports and sites of interest locally.
