Cottage in East Knoyle near Shaftesbury, Dorset, England - Peaceful Village Location Within 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty'

.This comfortable, attractive and well equipped country cottage has many original features including exposed beams and inglenook fireplace. It is Grade 2 Listed for its historic character. There is a cottage garden (front) and small garden with lawn (rear) which overlooks a meadow and hills beyond. This timbered property has been lovingly preserved whilst containing every modern convenience you will require. A beautiful cottage within a lovely village.

Many guests from home and abroad return year after year and have become friends.We always value personal contact so do feel free to get in touch with us so we can offer as much information as possible before making your booking. We can also tell you about generous discounts we have always offered on website prices including ten to fifteen percent discount on two weeks or more stay and late bookings. About Tim Hillier

We live most of the time in Surrey where Tim is a Church of England Vicar.

Dayspring Cottage in East Knoyle, is our own home in which we spend as much free time as we are able. We love this peaceful cottage and the friendly village where we unwind and 're-charge our batteries'. Walking the fields, lanes and hills in the summer with our cocker spaniel is a delight - as is relaxing with a glass of wine in front of a roaring log fire in the inglenook in winter. This is a very special place for us!

We have included as much information as we can on this site but are always delighted to talk with guests to help with additional information or needs before they book. Please also contact before you book for two weeks or more or for a late booking (less than a month before a stay) as we have always offered very substantial discounts on the listed price. Notes on accommodation: We have always offered a 10% discount for bookings of two weeks or more and for late bookings. Contact owners for details. The cottage will be checked and clean on arrival. We ask guests to clean throughout before leaving. With notice, we can arrange for cleaning to be carried out after you have left. This may not always be possible during the peak seasons.However, please make the request in good time and we will seek to arrange. We do not ask for a deposit for possible damage or failure to clean properly. We have found that trust between ourselves and those staying is rarely compromised. Outside: Garden furniture (table, four garden chairs and bench). Utility Room: Washing machine/ dryer combo. Dyson vacuum cleaner, brush, mop and general cleaning materials, iron and ironing board. Cleaning / Towels / Linen. Bed linen, towels and tea towels included within the price. Beds will be made up before you arrive. We trust guests to clean before leaving

Cozy and relaxed cottage in a quiet rural haven.

Very comfortable and warm cottage thanks to the great open fireplace (backed up by storage heaters) despite the cold weather.

Spacious and well equipped kitchen diner, two bathrooms, comfortable double bedroom and also a twin bedroom. Large comfortable lounge although you have to watch the low beams if you’re tall like me. Plenty of logs to keep the fire going.

There’s a shop in the hamlet that stocks the essentials and a bit more but you’re not too far in the car from a supermarket and lots of things to see and do.

We had a lovely relaxed time and everything was clean and tidy with a mix of rural character with decent WiFi and a telly and stereo as well.

No problems and we would definitely go back.

A charming cottage in a delightful village.

Dayspring Cottage is a quintessential English cottage located in a delightful village. The moment you enter the cottage, with its beams, fireplace and comfortable furniture, you feel welcome. It is well-equipped with bathrooms both on the ground floor and first floor, a spacious kitchen and a lovely cottagey garden. The location is perfect; the village of East Knoyle has an interesting church, an extremely well-stocked community run shop and the nearby 15th century Fox and Hounds pub serves excellent food. My wife and I have stayed here for the last four years and will undoubtedly be back next year!

Beautiful cottage in a lovely village

The cottage was very welcoming on our arrival. The kitchen is well stocked with equipment & utensils. The main problem that we experienced was the water pressure particularly when someone was having a shower upstairs we couldn't run the bath downstairs. Also it could be embarrassing when flushing the loo ?

We can't recommend the village shop enough, very well stocked & really friendly people, we wouldn't have brought so many provisions had we known !

Plenty of wonderful places to see, Salisbury, Sherborne & Shaftesbury to name a few. The local pub, The Fox & Hounds is friendly & their food is good. If you want the Sunday roast, always book as it is very popular.

But a lovely cottage with a lovely atmosphere. Thank you

Home from home!

I have stayed at Dayspring cottage several times now and everytime I leave I really look forward to going back. The situation is perfect ,set in a sleepy little village surrounded by beautiful countryside , near to the historic small town of Shaftsbury, the coast , Bath , Stonehenge and if your looking, lots of good pubs!

The cottage itself is very cosy. The downstairs lounge with the big fireplace is great, sitting in front of it on cold and foggy days .with a good book or watching TV. is my idea of luxury.! The kitchen is large and there are are all mod cons. The garden at the back is also enjoyable and looks out onto fields so all is quiet.

Tim is always available, a phone call away, and ready to help with local information or anything that may occur during your visit.. There is also Babs who lives in the village and pops in every now and then . Everybody is very friendly and I thoroughly reccomend this cottage for a holiday.

P.S. For the Italian visitors,my husband is Italian I would like to suggest the addition of a very large saucepan , ( to cook spaghetti in) and a Mocha coffee pot in the kitchen !

cozy old cottage

Everything was well arranged. Cottage was not very clean on arrival, fleas observed, big shit in the toilet downstairs. To small room with Twin beds not comfortable, mattress springs very palpable.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. You mentioned the small second bedroom. As the website makes very clear this room is a small double room and not ideal for two adults. The cottage was booked by four adults on the basis of the description. We are disappointed and very surprised to read of these problems and have carried out a thorough investigation. The cottage was thoroughly cleaned to a high standard before your arrival and checked by two people. This is first complaint regarding cleaning we have ever received which is again confusing. They have cleaned the cottage for many years and have done so thoroughly without exception. We can only apologise to you for the toilet and suspect this was due to a temporary blockage. It is certainly clear now. The cottage is always cleaned immaculately and, as you will see from the other largely 5 star reviews, this is not the experience of other guests. The mattresses don't in fact have springs so we are confused by the comment. They have not been heavily used. However, we will check these also immediately. They now have high quality memory foam toppings. The issue of fleas is previously unknown over 12 years of lettings but we will have a full check and if necessary treatment. Again, our sincere apologies to you from very confused owners.

This is great walking/rambling country. There are a number of National Trust properties and gardens (Stourhead is second to none) and English Heritage sites within easy reach including Stonehenge. Country pubs in abundance. This is a place to relax and unwind whilst having many places of interest within easy reach. The sea is less than an hour away.


50 minutes to South Coast/Poole Dorset. Attractive, sandy beaches

Further Details:

Outstanding village shop and Post Office, Parish Church, pub (with food), superb childrens play area in the village. Supermarkets and full range of shops in the historic town of Shaftesbury (5 miles). A range of pubs and restaurants in local villages offering good meals. Do try 'Pythouse Walled Garden' just off A350 between East Knoyle and Shaftesbury - lovely garden and good food at any time of day or year!

There are local Ordnance Survey maps in the cottage for guests to use as well as laminated maps of local walks in and around the village.

Discounts Available
We offer a discount (10%) on website price if you book for two weeks or more at any time of year. We also offer a discount of 10% for all late bookings (four weeks or less before your proposed stay) and for all previous customers. During quieter periods we can also offer smaller discounts for just a week's stay. However, you will need to press 'Enquire Now' before making a firm booking and so make contact with us for these discounts to be arranged. We do encourage guests to press 'Enquire Now' anyway before confirming a booking to be sure you are getting the best possible information on the property and the best possible terms for you as customer. Also do get in touch with us directly to receive further details of the property or any questions you may have. We aim to get back to you by e mail or phone within two hours on most occasions.

The cottage will be ready by 2.00pm on your arrival day unless agreed otherwise. There is reserved, off road space for one vehicle.
We ask guests to vacate by 10.30am on their last day to allow linen to be changed for following guests. We can be more flexible over dates and times 'out of season' . Bookings are from Saturday to Saturday but with flexibility out of season.We ask guests to clean through before leaving although can sometimes arrange for our cleaner to do so if arranged in good time. The cost is £35 and paid locally.

Changeover Day:
Saturday. However, we are as flexible as possible, especially 'out of season'.

From the beginning of December including Christmas and New Year the cottage is tastefully decorated with Christmas tree, garlands and candles. There is always a large supply seasoned logs available throughout the autumn, winter and spring . Logs are included in price at Christmas and New Year and for 'Winter Warmer Weekends' in December.

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 14 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
