Fantastic!

We spent a lovely two weeks at Cerro de Bica. The villa is superb and the photographs, whilst accurate, don't do the villa justice.

Maxine and her husband were excellent and were on hand should we have needed them. The change in laundry after the first week was a lovely surprise!

The large pool and covered outdoor seating area were a boon as the weather was hardly under 38° for our whole fortnight. The outdoor area also great for star gazing in the evening - the milky way was visible most nights!

The booking process and communication with David and Pauline were excellent and very straightforward.

In terms of the local area - Ourique is a lovely small town where the locals were friendly and helpful. The local supermarket has everything that you would need - as others have said the fresh produce and bakery were full of very good produce. We tried the Portuguese delicacy of salted cod and the small custard pastries were delicious.

We flew into Faro on a Sunday and the directions provided were perfect. A nice easy run with good roads up to the villa. The supermarket, Pingo Doce, was open so were able to stock up before we drove out to the villa.

The Algarve coast is worth a visit - although be warned is very busy. We drove down to Portimao (there you will see the traditional geological rocks on the beaches) and further along to Lagos (nice restaurants and shopping).

We also travelled to the west coast visiting the Cabo Sardar viewpoint trail in the national park and Praia da Zambujeira which was lovely, sea had large waves for surfers, nice beach. We had a super lunch at the Ponto &virGula restaurant which serves traditional Portuguese fare along with the "best burgers ever" according to my two teenegers as well as free Wi-Fi!

We also took the opportunity to drive up to Lisbon - just over 2hrs drive on the toll motorway. We went into the city over the bridge and ended up parking quite far from the city centre (in hindsight probably should have used the park and ride car park at the airport). We did however make use of the Lisbon metro, buses and trams with the €6.50 per person a day travel card (similar to London's Oyster card) so were able to see most of the sights of the city.

We would recommend Cerra de Bica as the place to stay to explore the southern regions of Portugal whilst having somewhere to also relax and spend time reading a book in the sunshine!

Overall an excellent holiday was had by all!

Hidden Gem

Lovely secluded villa with peaceful, beautiful surroundings. The pool and outside area are ideal for lazy days lounging in the sun.

Well maintained, clean and modern villa with a excellent layout.

Excellent communication with David and easy hassle free booking, Maxine and her husband on hand if you need anything anytime.

Minutes drive from excellent restaurants or supermarket in Ourique.

Will definitely be booking again - thank you

Fabulous Villa

Fabulous villa, peaceful location with all the necessary amenities.

Not far from the airport, and local town nearby with a supermarket to get all your essentials.

Took a trip to a nearby town where we visited the Roman remains, unfortunately the castle was closed on the day of our visit, although to make up for that we found a lovely cafe and enjoyed a coffee along with a Portugese Egg custard classic! Delicous if I do say so myself.

We thought it was nice to get a call from David the day we arrived to make sure we found it ok. Hope to be back soon!

A hidden gem!

Wow! What a fabulous hidden and secluded little villa. We had such a wonderful & relaxing holiday exploring in & around Ourique. We visited the 2 restaurants locally, preferring the one at the side of the busy main road, Novo Coimbra. However we felt that it wasn't really an easy walk due to the fast road (with 3 children 9 and under) & lack of lighting for the walk home. Both restaurants were extremely helpful with the children & suggested just ordering 2 dishes to share between 3 of them. Whilst we have 3 children who are happy to try most things the English translations at Castro de Cola didn't translate well to sound particularly appetising... We asked for recommendations & the recommended food was tasty. The setting of this restaurant was so tranquil and picturesque with vast swathes of Portugal rolling out below. Having a 9 year old who had just studied the Romans in school he was particularly taken with the remains of the Roman settlement at Castro de Cola.

As for the villa, we really didn't want to leave! We felt that the online photos didn't do this villa justice either. Clean & well maintained. The pool is fabulous & our 5 year old finally learnt to swim! The pool is deep at one end however and it goes without saying that children will need to be constantly supervised. We locked their bedroom doors for the week and removed the keys as we were worried that the children would go out to the pool area unsupervised as each bedroom opens directly out onto the pool area. We took a selection of pool toys with us and thought we'd buy others locally but that proved quite difficult! The villa was well stocked with all sorts of things you might need, the local supermarket was brilliant for all essentials, local wines etc. Delicious pastries for breakfast are an absolute MUST! The relaxed seating areas inside and outside were perfect and provided an ideal set up for our holiday. The kids went inside when they got too hot & we were able to supervise the pool from the shade when we got too hot. Air Con might be a welcome plus if the weather was any hotter though! Our fans were used at night constantly.

The directions we received from David & Pauline were clear and precise and we met up with Maxine easily. Communication with David was also very easy. We would definitely recommend this villa, our 3 are already planning their visit next year!

We also visited the water park (Aqualand) near Lagos. Another great day out but, be warned, the showers were freezing!

Beautiful villa in a peaceful location

We found the villa exceeded our expectations. Villa is spacious and well-appointed with everything you could need for a relaxing break. Ourique the local town which is about 10 minutes by car has a supermarket, cafes, restaurant and bars. Location is good for exploring the west coast beaches, algarve and towards the Spanish border as such a car is essential. Highly recommended

Lovely villa, fantastic pool, great for relaxing

The villa was very well equipped with everything you could need. The pool was excellent and a good depth for our teenage children. Being located just of the main road it was very easy to access the surrounding towns and villages and the Algarve was an easy 50min drive away. Maxine was a star, really helpful and kind. Had a fantastic holiday.
