About The Owner

Sally and I started building our dream home in 2006. We have lived there for the last 9 years, enjoying all its delights - cooking on the Aga, sitting in front of the open fire and watching the wildlife and the gorgeous views from the terrace. Now we have decided to see some more of the world before we retire, so plan to spend time on a barge on the French canals.

The Owner purchased this house in 2006

Why The Owner chose Kent

Syndale Lodge is set in beautiful old park land with ancient oaks and horse chestnut trees all around. The views over the Syndale Valley show hop gardens and cherry orchards as well as spectacular sunsets. All this and only a mile from Faversham, medieval market town

What makes this house unique

The beauty of the countryside but only a mile from a charming medieval market town of Faversham. Under an hour to London on 'the bullet' train to St Pancras. Close to Channel ports of Dover and Folkestone, as well as The Channel Tunnel

Large, beautiful house in relaxing environment

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed at Sally and David's house for a very relaxing, long weekend with 15 adults and 1 small child. It's a beautifully furnished house that easily accommodates for a large group of people, it felt like a home away from home. We enjoyed the lovely bed linen, fresh flowers and the large bowl of fruit that was kindly provided. We prepared dinner on the Aga for all of us, a pure delight for every foodie! Communication with the owners was very smooth. We discovered the area and had a great stay, highly recommended! Thanks again for having us!

Highly recommended

We stayed here recently with a group of friends + lots of small children. A fantastic home with plenty of space, beautiful views and a wonderful veranda. Looking forward to staying again in future.

Very spacious and comfortable house

  • 5 of 5

We had a large family gathering at the house for a few days in July, we loved sitting out on the verandah at the back on the big wooden chairs overlooking the valley. Inside the house is very comfortable with lots of space to sit and eat, interesting decor in all the rooms and bathrooms and a well equipped kitchen. Beds are comfortable with nice linen. The fresh flowers everywhere and a welcome bowl of fruit were nice touches. The only minor inconvenience is the rather variable water pressure when more than one person is running water. We had some nice walks from the house and also went to Whitstable for seafood and a swim and into Faversham where we ate a good lunch at the Italian restaurant by the creek. The owners are extremely helpful and friendly and responded quickly to any queries.

Lovely Easter Break

  • 3 of 5

Three families shared the property (12 people). The size and number of bathrooms was perfect for our stay. The property had some lovely touches with a well equipped kitchen. The owners were very accommodating and left a substantial colourful bowl of fruit, freshly cut flowers and chocolate easter eggs for the children. The views were peaceful and watching the sheep whilst enjoying a cup of tea was a morning treat. However, unfortunately the property was a little let down by lack of simple maintenance, light bulbs not working, some of the chairs could do with mending, the sofas had seen better days and everywhere generally needed a good dust and hoover. Despite having 5 bathrooms, the combi boiler couldn't cope with more than one shower on at a time

Having said this the bathrooms were clean and the bed linen was fresh. Overall we had a lovely break. Thank you Sally and David.

Owner's Response: We appreciate constructive feedback and do our best to ensure that our guests have a lovely experience when they stay at Syndale Lodge. You can see from our other reviews that people really appreciate this. Our 2 cleaners, Lyn and Robert, pride themselves on keeping the house clean and tidy. There are sometimes issues with water pressure as we away from the town, but our 2 combi-boilers can usually cope. If not, there is never more than a short wait for a shower. We value comfort, relaxation and enjoyment and our house reflects this. If you need everything to be brand new this may not be right for you, but if you want a peaceful, relaxing and happy stay in beautiful surroundings and a house full of character, then please come along!

Excellent for large groups

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a long weekend to celebrate my wife's birthday. Everyone lived the lodge and the set up.

Communication with the owners was faultless.

Catering: an amazing Aga, a well stocked pantry, inc as many teas and coffees as you can think of. A bar/hotel is about 100 yards away should you need it.

Accommodation: brilliant, it's all open plan, living-wise, focuses around two fires, one open and one burner, and the bedrooms are a good mix of doubles and singles. Narnia is a quirky extra that really says everything about the design and style of the lodge!

Extras: the fires made a cold February weekend lovely and warm, and the views from the windows of sheep wandering about was lovely. Plenty of pots, pans and glassware.

Check all the cupboards and storage places; board games, books and games consoles are tucked away everywhere, as is a lifetimes worth of CDs!

Would highly recommend as a getaway that isn't in he back of beyond!

Thanks again Sally and Dave for a wonderful, stress free stay.

Peter

Lovely lodge. Has everything you need...

  • 5 of 5

The lodge was beautiful, spacious and very well equipped for a self-catering weekend. We were able to cook all our meals in the lodge (for 11 people). The kitchen was huge and very well stocked (but if there is anything you've forgotten - despite its rural setting - there's a Sainsburys only a three minute drive away).

Before our arrival, the hosts Sally and David were extremely helpful in providing information about the lodge. It is in a beautiful location and perfect for country walks (take your wellies!)
