Gite in St Hilaire d'Ozilhan, Gard, Languedoc-Roussillon, - Close To the village centre with a boulangerie, hotel with restaurant, bar and church
'Vue du Pont' is on the first floor of a traditional 'maison du village'. It is in a traditional working French village with a boulangerie, a boutique hotel with a coffee garden and restaurant, a friendly bar/epicerie, church, hairdresser, Mairie and boules pitch, in the midst of working vineyards and olive groves. You will experience the rhythm of French village life.
Easy access to the countryside, historic sites and the Cote du Rhone wine country. The world famous Pont du Gard is visible in the distance from the bedroom windows. Nimes, Avingon, Arles, Orange and Uzes are all within an easy drive. The Camargues region, historic Aigues Mortes and the coast are about an hour away.

About the Owner
We bought the Gite in 2007, as a holiday home for ourselves and with the upstairs Gite to let out to holidaymakers. We visit a few times a year so may meet you and hope to enjoy a glass of wine together. But we do not intrude on your privacy as you have your own private entrance, garden and parking. If we are not there, you are welcome to use our garden as well as your own. We love the village and the area. The people in the village have made us welcome, so do say 'Bonjour' as you walk to the boulangerie. The many positive comments in our visitors' book give us pleasure knowing others have enjoyed their stay in France. I hope you decide to join them.
Guestbook comments from the owner
"We had a wonderful holiday at Vue du Pont. It is in a great location - bakery down the road, supermarket 5-10mins drive away and lots of fantastic sites and towns to visit within 30-45 minutes drive (Pont-du-Gard, Nimes, Avignon, Uzes, Arles, Camargue etc.). The flat itself was clean, well-equipped and well looked after. The baby package was great and we had a really super holiday with our 10-month-old daughter - she enjoyed being pushed around lots of medieval French towns."
"We had a wonderful stay at the Vue du Pont. The gite was very clean and well equipped for all our holiday needs. We had a wonderful warm welcome from Gill, who got us settled in and provided us with more detailed information on the area. The location is fantastic for exploring the surrounding countryside. We visited numerous sites such as, the pont du gard, Nimes, Uzes and many more. I especially enjoyed the local asparagus. We had a very enjoyable stay and would recommend the Vue du Pont to anyone.”

Ideal location for easy access to historic sites
We have just returned from a wonderful week at Rue du Pont. The gite was comfortable, spotlessly clean and well equipped for our needs. A lovely Boulangerie within 50 yards for those morning croissants, an epicerie which unfortunately was closed when we were there but was recommended highly and if you really wanted to treat yourself a hotel restaurant opposite the gite. There is a good choice of restaurants in Remoulins nearby. The village is ideally situated for visits to Uzes, Avignon, Nimes and the Pont du Gard as well as sites further afield. We can recommend a lovely walk from Vers to the Pont du Gard, park in the square and enjoy a drink and maybe something to eat at the bar there......very nice! We hope to return!!
Vue du Pont
We had a super week in this lovely gite. It was nicely equipped and furnished and easily to get to lots of places of interest without driving too many miles. The garden was perfect for BBQs and there was a really nice restaurant opposite too.
Chose the property because of the location/proximity to the cities and sites that we wished to visit during our stay ie Orange, Avignon, Nimes, Aix, Pont du Gard etc. and in that respect it scored well.
The house was very clean , functional , reasonably well equipped and well laid out.
Downside was that it just wasn't comfortable.
After a hard day of sightseeing, all we wanted to do in the evening was collapse and relax with a good DVD and rest up for the next days wanderings . The sofas which look fine on the site pictures were awful, collapsing into a spongy mess ( they are actually cheap sofa beds ), when sat on. The TV was small and virtually unwatchable. I would imagine that the place would be unbearably hot in Summer with no fans or alternative cooling. The small garden area provided was mostly in shade and unsuitable if you wanted to catch the sun. The neighbour keeps chickens ( cockerels ) that celebrate each day with volume..not so good if you want to lay in say after 5 am.. On the subject of noise, there is a junior school opposite the house where the kids seem to live for hours a day in the playground ...Finally left the premises on a downside..The owners were away so were able to use the parking on the premises..!! To get out of the gates it is necessary to try and remove a dodgy metal bollard with an unworkable key. The angle of exit is impossible for anything other than a very small car.. Mine was not small ( i.e. my car that I keep in france as I have my own property ) , and I have a couple of hundred euros worth of damage to prove it.
We enjoyed our stay and visited the local area, the rivers, the coast and the towns and villages. The house was well heated on the couple of cold days we had, and it was comfortable. The caretaker was very quick to fix the two minor problems we had.We would stay here again.Another review mentioned the entry/exit being difficult, but two 1m high posts opposite have been removed, and its fine now.

“We love the relaxed way of life, the wines and the food. It is so convenient for the airport at Nimes and for the motorway, but set amongst vineyards and olive groves. The Pont du Gard is an added bonus. You can visit Avignon, Nimes, Orange, Arles and the Camargue - or sit in the garden and relax.”
Activity and Interests
Special interest holidays:
The Gite is in the Cote du Rhone wine growing region with five wineries within a few minutes and many more within a short drive. Our key holder is a member of the “Commanderie de Bordeaux”, an international wine association with 70 participating commanderies in 19 countries. She offers tours of domaines to taste the produce. You will be picked up from the Gite and transported around some local vineyards. She will explain the ‘terroir’ and cultivation methods and translate (if required) as the growers explain their offerings. They are informal and suitable for complete novices or experts alike. The aim is to enhance your appreciation of the wines of the region.
The Carmargues region with its black bulls, white horses and pink flamingoes is about an hour's drive away. At a similar distance you will also find the glorious golden beaches of the Mediterranean and historic Aigues Mortes, a walled medieval city.
Nimes airport is just 35 minutes drive (mostly on autoroute) from the Gite. It is a small, local airport so you can expect to be through and away quickly. Ryanair flies from Luton and Liverpool (summer only). Other airports to consider are Avignon, Carcassone, Perpignon and Montpellier. A car is strongly recommended. There is a bus route to the village and a local taxi service, but to enjoy the area you will need a car.
The nearest town is Remoulins, 5kms away or five minutes by car. The Pont du Gard is 6kms away. As well as the incredible Roman Aqueduct you can swim or canoe in the river. The ancient towns of Uzes, Nimes and Avignon are all 20 to 30 minutes drive away. They offer Roman heritage and architecture.
A FREE welcome bottle of local wine. A FREE car park disc for Remoulins high street is included. FREE WiFi is provided. Changeover day is flexible so you can arrive mid-week or weekends. House hunters take your time in the region and stay in our Gite. A 'Baby package' of cot, bath and high chair is available at no extra charge. Transfer from Avignon or Nimes can be arranged with taxi 'Anthony' in the village. Our local key holder is English and lives in the village. She will meet and greet you to hand over the key and collect on departure.

“We enjoy being able to amble along to the boulangerie for bread and the tiny market on Tuesdays for fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese and meat. We relax in the small bar/epicerie run by Christophe or in the small hotel opposite which is open for coffee and drinks to non-residents and has a lovely resaurant - 'La Table'. We love the local wineries where you can drop in to taste the produce and buy a bottle or two; and the olive press where you can do the same. In the summer bathing in the river Gardon at the Pont du Gard is a delight. We keep fit walking through the vineyards or up into the garrigue overlooking the village. The numerous old villages are always fascinating to wander around.”
