Overview

About the property

Cottage in Treleddid Fawr, St Davids, Coastal National Park - Peaceful Secluded Hamlet, One Mile To Beaches And 15 Mins Walk To The Coast Path. Short Breaks from £120 for 2 nights.

Chapel Studio, in Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, is a warm, homely, stone studio cottage to sleep one or two people at the road’s end in Treleddid Fawr. This small quiet hamlet is perched on the south facing slopes of the rocky outcrops of St. Davids headland with views across the Atlantic Ocean to Skomer, Ramsey and other offshore islands. The coast path, isolated seal breeding coves, Whitesands and Porthmelgan beaches and iron age settlement on St Davids Head are easily accessible by footpath. Originally the caretaker’s cottage for the adjacent chapel, (which was built in 1834 and is now the owner’s home), it retains original stonework combined with rich woodwork and large south facing windows overlooking its own enclosed garden. For 20 years the studio has provided a quiet hideaway cwtch in private mature wooded gardens with wifi, coastal walks from the door and all the amenities of St Davids less than two miles away. (OS Map Ref SM 753 278)

Short breaks are available from November to March from £120 for 2 nights. Please note prices for stays of more than one week are the sum of the individual weeks and not as shown on this price guide, so please enquire. We are happy to receive direct enquiries and offer alternative rates. Find Chapel Studio elsewhere online.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is a beautifully presented and quiet/private place to stay. Also very close to the coastal path and beautiful beaches around St David's. We loved it and were sad to have to leave and return to the craziness that is London!

Cosy and so much more...

  • 4 of 5

I enjoyed it very much to stay at this beautiful place. On one hand it is perfect to relax, feeling home looking into the garden or hearIng birds talking. And on the other hand you can visit St. Davids or you go straigjt ahead to the pembrokeshire coast path. I also used the different possibilities with the bus, for example to go to Newgale or Fishguard.

And when you coming back after your daytrips there is a cosy place, arranged from two lovely people😊?

I'm going to find a possibility to come back. Thank you Stuart and Anne!

A week in August

  • 5 of 5

We had a very lovely and relaxing week in this one room cottage, despite the rather indifferent weather and high winds! The cottage is equipped to a high standard and had everything we needed, including a wood burning stove which we lit one evening to dry out..

A lovely little cottage in a beautiful peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

The 'Studio' cottage was clean, comfortable and cosy. The location was very quiet and all you could really hear was the sounds of birdsong. The location gave easy access to plenty of walks and good cycle routes (No 4 cycle route was just down the lane) in the area.

Great value

  • 5 of 5

The studio worked well as a living and sleeping space, rather romantic and intimate with a lovely wood burner. It was clean, uncluttered and well laid out, and felt quite spacious with its vaulted ceiling and lovely garden outside. It offered us more than expected. Great to walk direct from the door to the coast and surrounding beaches and moorland - we certainly never expected to see seal pups feeding 15 minutes walk from the studio. Hardly used the car. The owners were friendly and helpful on arrival but hardly saw them otherwise. Incredibly good value for such an idyllic retreat, provided you don't want a separate bedroom or more gadgets.

Peace and tranquillity

  • 5 of 5

Very well equipped, tastefully modernised and comfortable studio/cottage in the tiny hamlet of Treleddyd Fawr in Pembrokeshire coast national park, 5 minutes drive from St David’s and glorious Whitesands Bay and totally peaceful. I always come in the winter, but I know the area is wonderful in the summer too, having had a few caravan holidays here in the 1960s and 70s. Great for hiking with some wonderful coastal path walks right on the doorstep, or relaxing or (like me) writing in total peace and seclusion. Hosts Anne and Stuart in the house next door are tactfully unobtrusive but always very helpful if needed. Wifi is excellent and the wood-burning stove is very easy to light (honest). The honey from Anne's bees is great too! Advice to guests: stock up on food on your way here in Morrisons in Haverfordwest. The supermarket in St David’s is OK for the basics, but is fairly small.

Warm cosy cottage. 20min walk from coastal path

  • 3 of 5

Lovely cosy cottage, only 20min walk from stunning coastal paths. Description of cottage was accurate. One room containing kitchen area with cooker, fridge etc. 2 comfortable armchairs next to solid fuel wood burner, which made the room warm and comfortable. (Follow directions for lighting this otherwise it can get a bit smokey!)

Double bed in other side of room was very comfortable with firm mattress and memory foam topping - which made it so comfortable and welcoming after walking for hours along the coastal paths.

Good shower/bathroom facilities, and everything was lovely and clean.

Small enclosed garden, which is a beautiful sun trap and secluded. Even has its own resident robin that flies down for crumbs every time he saw us sitting on the bench! Also had good off road parking facility.

The path from the cottage to the National Trust Coastal Paths took about 20min to get there. It is uphill, then level, then a fairly steep decent to the cliff, so a degree of fitness is required. You will be rewarded with the most spectacular views and the highlight of our holiday was seeing the seals with their new born pups, lying together in the sheltered bay just below the cliff. We were blessed with sunny weather all week and visited the seals every day. We even saw a pod of porpoises nearby whilst sitting on the rocks, and lots of bird life above the coastal paths, including peregrines, kestrels, buzzards and red kites.

We visited St. Davids, Ramsey Island boat trip, Woolen Mill and Studio Pottery - all very close to cottage. We cant recommend any pubs as we were happy to do our own self catering in the cottage, though we can recommend Sunday lunch at St Davids Cathedral refectory - good value for money.

We have had a lovely stay. We would definitely recommend this property to friends and have already done so with people we met whilst on our coastal walks. We hope to return one day.Thank you Stuart and Anne for a lovely holiday.

Owner's Response: It's great to see guests making the most of the studio. Well done. It's always a danger when guests have the same stove model that they assume it will behave like their own. I will start pointing out to any Morso owning guests that all chimneys are different which is why we provide instructions for lighting. All suggestions help future guests.

Coast/Beach:

Within 3 miles there are many beaches in bays between the rocky headlands. The Blue Flag beach of Whitesands has a café and is 5 minutes by car and either 20 or 40 minutes walk by green lane or cross country footpath. Porthmelgan beach is totally undeveloped and 40 minutes by foot from the door on ancient footpaths or coast path and 10 minutes along the coast from Whitesands car park. The coast path is half a mile away, 15 minutes along ancient footpaths.

Travel:

By arrangement, we offer connections to local bus services on arrival and departure for those not wishing to travel by car for their walking holiday.

Distances:

We are 2 miles from St Davids and less than a mile from the local farm shop. The old Blue Lagoon slate quarries at Abereiddy and small fishing harbours of Porthgain and Solva are 3 miles. The Irish ferry terminal at Fishguard and old market and sea trading town of Haverfordwest are 16 miles. The wooded estuaries with the castles of Cilgerran, Llawhaden, Carew and Pembroke, the Preseli Hills from where Stonehenge’s blue stones were quarried and Oakwood Leisure Park are all within an hours drive.

Further Details:

From Easter to the end of September the neighbouring local farm shop operates as a small supermarket.

A larger supermarket as well as green grocer, butcher and deli are to be found in St Davids along with a Country Market on Thursday mornings. St Davids has Lloyds and Barclays banks a Post Office and a wealth of restaurants, cafés, pubs, takeaways, shops, boat trip offices, galleries and the National Park Visitor Centre, the home of Amgueddfa Cymru-National Museum Wales in Pembrokeshire – a world class gallery showcasing artists’ interpretations of landscape and of course the Bishops Palace and Cathedral with its music festival, regular choral services and concerts.

Larger supermarkets are to be found in Haverfordwest.
