Waterside Accommodation in Appledore, North Devon, England - Peacefully Located By Appledore's Historic Quayside Adjacent To Its Intertwining Cobbled Streets

Situated in this highly favored coastal village, on one of the most sought after streets in the area backing onto the River Torridge. The village of Appledore is renowned for its historic quayside and cobbled streets and a range of former fishermens’ cottages. There are a good range of amenities including local delicatessen, post office, various cafes, restaurants, pubs, fish & chip shop, galleries and art and craft shops. A range of waterborne activities are available locally. The Northam Burrows Country Park is also within easy access and affords excellent walks. They adjoin the Royal North Devon Golf Course, which is reputed to be the oldest links course in England. The safe and sandy beach at Westward Ho! is also within close proximity and the South West coastal footpath with excellent walks with stunning vistas of the rugged North Devon coastline. The port and market town of Bideford is approximately 3 miles away and offers a wider range of amenities.

Wow the views are spectacular and the back Street shops quirky, with local public houses and restaurants nearby that supply wonderful food as well as in John's convenience store too. I loved staying in the apartment it was immaculately clean and provided the perfect comfortable space for us to gather our thoughts as we came to accept the passing of my mum! We will return soon and highly recommend this apartment.

wonderful waterfront apartment

This is the third time we have stayed and as usual the apartment was immaculately clean, the views were breathtaking and we were lucky with the weather. I would recommend the Beaver Inn and The Sea Gate for great food and a evening out. Instow is also worth a visit, we will definitely visit again next year.

Lovely apartment in great location

The apartment is lovely ,very spacious, has picturesque views and is in a good position in Appledore. It is very well equipped with all you would need to your for self catering needs.

The attention to detail regarding the cleaning is excellent, you couldn't fault it and we could tell a lot of care had gone into making it very welcoming.

Thank you to the owners for all their efforts and dedication in providing a great place to stay.We would certainly recommend this apartment to anyone thinking of staying in North Devon.

Great hideaway with amazing views

My partner and I stayed here again for the weekend. Truly fallen in love with it here. High tide at night is amazing. Lovely unique property. Give the sea gate resturant for a meal and you will not be disappointed. 5 out 5 all round

Great location but filthy apartment

The location of this apartment is stunning and the apartment was nicely decorated but filthy. The double bed was extremely comfortable being a memory foam but the two singles were aking to Nun's beds, springs sticking through and very very uncomfortable. There was mould in the shower, dirty cups and crockery in the cupboards, the glass tiles were smeared and dirty as were the windows. The occupant above kept us awake all night most nights with the sound of the tv and snoring so the sound insulation is awful. The wooden worktop was black with mould and broken through water damage, no dishcloths or dishwasher tablets were provided. Such a pity as it could have been a fabulous stay. The Beaver Inn at the end of the street is a little gem, great food and live entertainment.

We bought an old & derelict theatre which had not been used since the 1970's and my husband & I lovingly converted it into six 5* luxury holidays homes. I do all the changeovers personally and make sure everything is ship shape for your arrival. If there is anything you'd like me to arrange to make your stay perfect, just let me know!

Activity and Interests

Special interest holidays:

The village has a public slipway, which provides the possibility for a variety of water sports including jet skiing, sailing, launching of a boat and kayaking.

The Northam Burrows Country Park is also within easy access.

The nearby Tarka Trail coastal path and Exmoor also boast excellent walks.


Westward Ho!, Saunton, Croyde, Puttsborough & Woolacombe are just a few of the famous local beaches.


Leave M5 at junction 27 follow the signs to Bideford A39.

After reaching the outskirts of Bideford, take the 3rd exit from the roundabout signposted Appledore on the A386.

In Appledore you will drive along the quay and reach the Car Park at the end.

Exeter, Bristol and Newquay Airports are the 3 nearest International Airports.

Barnstaple is the nearest Rail Station, being about 10 miles from the Gaiety

National Express offer services to Bideford, being about 3 miles from the Gaiety.


The port and market town of Bideford is approximately 3 miles away and offers a wider range of amenities. The town sits on the banks of the River Torridge and has various banks, butchers, bakeries, various shops, pubs and restaurants, cafes, places of worship, schooling for all ages (public and private) and three supermarkets. The regional center of Barnstaple is approximately 12 miles away and offers all the area’s main business, shopping and commercial venues

There are a number of holiday attractions nearby ranging from Farm and Wildlife Parks to Shopping outlet stores.

  • Notes on accommodation: The Old Gaiety is a superb conversion of the old theatre into a range of six waterside apartments in a highly sought after location within the ever- popular village of Appledore. The building backs onto the River Torridge and is within walking distance of the amenities, including two of the best pubs within the village. The apartments have been converted to a high specification with no two apartments being identical. There is a range of one and two bedroom apartments arranged over four floors. The is street-side free parking in the vicinity. Outside: There are a range of balconies and a roof garden on the varying apartments. The Property is right on a beach (low tide) and has a slipway to the side suitable for a small dingy which is at the waters' edge at high tide. Other: This apartment is an extremely spacious apartment enjoying fabulous views over the River Torridge from the over water balcony as well as the superb dual aspect sitting room / dining room, and both bedrooms too.
