Penbridge Court and its 3 cottages were lovingly rebuilt 30 years ago in the original red sandstone. The Barn (main house) also retains many original features including massive and impressive oak beams. Under new ownership the properties are all being completely refurnished to provide maximum comfort and style without losing the original authentic flavour of West Somerset. Situated in the small hamlet of Trebles Holford it is the perfect location for couples, families or larger groups if booked together. About Simon Pearson

Simon and Nikki Pearson are married with 4 children; 3 boys (89,91 and 93) and daughter (00) still at school. An ex-RAF officer and fast-jet navigator (19 years, Buccaneers, Tornados). After working as a defence and aviation consultant, and considerable media work (BBC, ITV, C5 News, Discovery Chan) Simon now works as a sales vice-president in business aviation. Nikki is a homemaker and does much local voluntary work. Having ourselves rented large properties for years for family and friends gatherings we decided to invest in our own to try and make it as perfect as possible, as we would wish it and as, we hoped, our guests would too. The result which is Penbridge Court Ban and Cottages speaks for itself. It is truly huge, beautifully and lovingly restored to make it as near perfect as possible.

Why Simon Pearson chose Taunton Deane

The Quantock Hills are one of the great undiscovered beautiful rural areas of England. The property came on to the market for the first time in 2011 having had just one previous owner who was also a skilled carpenter. It comprises a converted and completely rebuilt threshing barn which dates back to the early 19th century with many original features and magnificent massive oak beams visible throughout. The cottages, the Byre, the Stable and Sunset are set around a central courtyard. We immediately fell in love with Penbridge Court. It is rural and quiet and perfect for a getaway all year round.

What makes this barn unique

Penbridge Court lies at the foot of the Quantocks and the Brendon Hills that mark the eastern edge of Exmoor. It is just 9 miles from the M5 motorway and Taunton and 7-8 miles from the family beaches at Blue Anchor, the fossil beach and East Quantoxhead and the historic harbour at Watchet. The West Somerset Railway line and its steam trains can be seen just 100m away from the end of the garden and the depot for the true enthusiast is just 4 miles away in Bishop's Lydeard. There are 4 superb pubs all within 3-4 miles and also 2 excellent riding stables Apart from the occasional puffing steam train the peace is disturbed only by pheasants, foxes, badgers, squirrels and buzzards. The beautiful gardens are open to all guests and are perfect for relaxation and glass of wine in the sunshine.

Notes on accommodation: The estate sleeps 20 in comfort with up to 5 more in guest beds. All 4 units may be booked together to sleep 25 plus cots. More guest may be accommodated using temporary bedding - on request. . Plus we have 2 cots and 2 high chairs. All properties have (relatively - 1.2 Mb/s) high speed broadband, the reliability of which can vary (1) HD televisons with SkyTV, SkySports, Freeview, DVD players, and a mobile phone signal booster for those that need to stay "connected". Outside: Large enclosed garden with generous BBQ patio and picnic tables. Can see steam trains of the West Somerset railway from the bottom of the garden or up close a short walk away along a public footpath on the edge of Farmer Les's field! Also beautiful views to the north and west of the Quantock Hills ridgeline and western slopes.

Stunning property, ideal for large groups

We've just had an amazing long weekend at Penbridge Court for 24 of us. The house is beautiful, well equipped and the owners and staff are an absolute pleasure to deal with. They were responsive and unfailingly friendly, dealing with all of my questions and requests, and even giving some great local recommendations. Everybody slept comfortably, and they provided plenty of bedding and linen. We were very keen to have a house where we could all sit at the same table, and so the huge dining area was absolutely perfect. We could even all fit around the log fire! There is so much to explore in the surrounding area, I cannot recommend this property enough!

Owner's Response: The house is indeed perfect for large groups and we are always thrilled with great reviews. The key to both owners and guests having an "amazing" experience is good communication, especially before the visit - no question is too trivial - and best done by phone. For those of you intrigued by what was recommended it was the Chantry Tea Rooms next to Kilve beach (arguably the best Cream Tea in Somerset!) following a cliff top and Jurassic beach walk. It is always with some trepidation that owners let to groups of 20+ men or 20+ women, often stag or hen, also after the completion of annual overhaul and final fixes of all those little and large things that crop up in a 200 year old barn! Pete's group were excellent guests. A big thanks from all the staff - we look forward to their return.

I don't normally write reviews but this place was AMAZING!

I hired out Penbridge Court for a friends stag do. He specifically wanted somewhere that was lovely and relaxing as he didn't want a typical "boys on tour" event. This place delivered - amazing venue, kept in a lovely condition and big enough to have 19 guys all in different beds. Amazing communication from Simon and Sam - Simon even put together a floor plan when I asked if he had one prior to booking. The hot tub is amazing - I just wish the weekend could have latest longer. If I ever needed a huge place again - I would not look elsewhere! A+++

A place not to be missed!

I cannot recommend Penbridge Court highly enough, as the barn, adjoining cottages and garden were just fantastic. We went as a party of sixteen and in other places we have stayed, you sometimes feel on top of each other, but not here, as the layout of the property allows you to meet as a group and also get time to be by yourself if you so wish.

I also have to commend the owner and management company, as the customer service they provide is second to none. We had a number of queries prior to our arrival and nothing was too much trouble and they are as keen as you to ensure you have an amazing time.

Also have to highly recommend the Blue Ball in Triscombe for Sunday lunch and we also had a fantastic meal at the Farmers Arms which is approx. a mile from the property.

We will definitely be back and I would recommend this property to everyone and if you are looking for luxury in secluded surroundings then this is the place to come!

Penbridge Court lived up to its on line description. Any surprises were entirely positive.

We were a family party of 16 with ages ranging from 2 to 78. As others have said Penbridge Court provides an ideal location and set of facilities for such a group whether for a week end (in our case) or a longer stay. We had no complaints and nothing but praise for the way the venue has been realised and is maintained and for the "concierge" service that sorts out your needs before you arrive and handles the initial introduction.

The local steam train, running to the coast, is a bonus.

Amazing Venue

If you have a large group of people and want to have a brilliant sociable time then there is no better place than the Old Stone Bans. The owners have built this barn as if they were going to live in it themselves and so the attention to detail and all the little touches really do add up. The kitchen is particularly amazing for socialising ,drinking and eating and you have everything you need to cook meals for 20+ people. We had 20 family members and hired the main barn and 3 x little cottages and it worked so well as people had their own space but could gather together when they wanted. Highlights are the rooms, spacious living areas and kitchen, full size pool table, hot tub, looking out on to the great views at the rear of the property and watching the magical steam trains go past. We did some fabulous walks and really felt that we needed another week to explore the area as there is so much to do and see. The hot tub was awesome - relaxing in the hot tub gazing out at the stars at 8pm on a cold February night. If you have a special occasion and want to celebrate in style you will not be disappointed. This place suits families and all ages. No one wanted to leave at the end! The memory of our week will last a long time and we will definitely be going back next year.

Doesn't get much better than this...

What a place! We turned up mob-handed for a pre-Christmas get together with most of our 16-strong party not really knowing what to expect. What we discovered was not far short of luxury accommodation, situated in beautiful West Country surroundings. We had the main barn and two of the smaller properties, and the exceptionally high standard showed no sign of diminishing from one to the next.

It’s fair to say that before we arrived, we’d bombarded the owners with questions about, and changes to, our booking; demands for a Christmas tree, last minute pleas for Barry the hamster to be allowed to come along and the possibility of extra stair gates to stop the inquisitive natures of a couple of toddlers from leading them too far astray. All were answered with speedy email responses and our particular, sometimes peculiar, needs were met to the letter. Barry was given the nod and not one reply that we received hinted at the frustration that we must have been causing our would-be landlords. A fantastic service and such a relief to deal directly with the owners instead of going through a third party.

It only got better once we turned up. After a long drive through a dreary December evening, we opened the door of the main barn to discover a beautiful, spacious kitchen; a sight to gladden the heart of somebody tasked with cooking roast turkey and trimmings for the entire party. We had some culinary kit between us as there usually isn’t enough, but in the end it stayed in the car. The place has stacks of quality utensils, pans, crockery etc, and enough cafetieres to produce the volume of coffee required to gently coax eight or so people out of their hangovers and into the day. Next to the kettle was a stash of locally sourced tea bags and delicious biscuits, a jar of half-sensible instant coffee and a panettone just begging to be ripped from its beautiful Christmas tin and devoured. What had we done to deserve all this bounty? Well; nothing. The owners just go out of their way to make you feel thoroughly welcome and their efforts do the job wonderfully.

Dogs - There are 2 kennels in the spacious back garden for dogs. Dogs cost £15 per dog per day. It is requested that dogs are not allowed into the bedrooms. .

The West Somerset Railway is just 5 mins away at Bishop's Lydeard, with a local stop 15 mins walk away at Crowcombe. Line runs 100m away across a field at bottom of back garden.

Take the train to Dunster Castle dunster-castle.

For the serious "foodies" there are 4 local pubs all renowned for exceptional food - in alphabetical order The Blue Ball in Triscombe (2 miles). The Farmers Arms near Combe Florey (1 mile away - walkable with a torch!), see The Rising Sun in West Bagborough (2 miles), and the Lethbridge in Bishops Lydeard (3 miles).
