Cottage in Grasmere, Lake District, Cumbria, England - Peaceful Location Yet In The Heart of Grasmere Village

Located in the 'honey pot' of the Lakes, surrounded by the Lakeland fells and in the National Park. Private courtyard setting, with parking for one small vehicle, also car park pass available for the week for larger cars.The ground floor has two double bedrooms and a modern bathroom with bath and electric shower. Upstairs there is an open plan well fitted kitchen with an attractive lounge with leather suite, TV and DVD etc. View of Silver How, Helm Crags and other fells. The village offers plenty of restaurants, tea shops or just quiet walks, you can also visit the famous Grasmere Gingerbread shop.All within a few minutes walk.Co op ,newsagent, chemist all part of this lovely village.

Had it about 15 years and the current record for return visit from guests is 9 times so we must be getting it right.

It's a magical place.Never get fed up with it.The cottage is in the heart of the village,yet is in a quiet south facing courtyard.

A great place to stay if you like walking,be it the fells or just on the lowlands.Many guests refer to it as the "upside down" cottage as the lounge and kitchen are upstairs so you can enjoy the view of the fells.

Plenty of places to visit,Dove Cottage,William Wordsworths home at on time Allen Bank ,another of his homes all in walking distance from the cottage.

A great bus service in Grasmere to Keswick,Ambleside ,Bowness and even Coniston so no need to move the car.

Grasmere is a beautiful place,if you haven't been before you will certainly want to return.

The other cottage next door is also owned by us but is not let out,just used by the family for odd weekends

What makes this cottage unique

In the heart of the village,yet a quiet location.Convenient for the local shops,coffee bars,pubs. A great centre for walking on the Fell or just footpaths.

Notes Outside: The property has a courtyard to the front with table and chairs for your use. There is parking for one vehicle, accessed via a narrow driveway. In addition we offer a free parking permit for the local car park. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen is included and beds are made up for your arrival. The Stone Cottage in Grasmere was just wonderful. To come back to it after a day on the fells came truly to feel like coming home. We were blessed with superb weather, but even in more usual Cumbrian rain, I’m sure that it would have been equally or even more inviting and cozy. The heating system is very efficient and easy to use, and Tony has stocked the cottage with lots of information about walks, etc. We hope to come again soon.

A comfortable cosy cottage

The cottage was very nice with comfortable beds, a cosy lounge/kitchen area and a pleasant flower-filled courtyard to sit in the sun (when it shone!). It is in a perfect location for Grasmere with the bonus of a parking place - we soon got used to reversing the car past the narrows.

Great cottage, great location.

This cottage is in a great location, nice and clean with all the facilities you'd need for a comfortable stay. Everything was in a good condition and working order.

Grasmere is a great village for exploring the lakes with plenty of places to eat and drink. Would recommend staying here and would definitely consider staying again.

Lovely cottage in the centre of small village of Grasmere, warm, comfortable and well equipped.

The cottage was well located as we were able to do 3 different walks from the cottage. We also drove to Keswick (20 mins) to do one walk and Ambleside (10 mins) to do another walk. Grasmere itself is very small but has pub, tearooms, Gingerbread Shop and Co-Op which are all from 2 to 5 minutes walk from the cottage.

The cottage is lovely with comfortable beds, large bathroom, well equipped kitchen and comfortable sitting area with lovely views from the windows.

The only issue is the parking as the driveway to the parking space is very narrow and only small cars will get in and out. However there is a carpark permit provided for the public carpark which is a 2 minute walk away which is also valid in other places such as Ambleside.

We had a very nice time and would like to return some day.

Brilliant location, lovely cottage

This upside down cottage means lovely cool bedrooms in the summer and a light and cosy upstairs lounge/kitchen. The courtyard is ideal for both evening drinks and for breakfasts in the sunshine when it happens. Everything we needed for day to day functioning was available. The bus services locally meant we could leave the car behind in the (small with tight access) parking space by the cottage even when we went walking or sightseeing in areas away from Grasmere. Lots of choices locally for food and drink made things easy, and a small Co-op was useful for milk and so on, especially as it opened late into the evening. Definitely will consider returning!

Central location

Lovely central position for the village and a good starting point for walking . Cottage was clean tidy and well equipped again ideal as a base ... booking this cottage was easy and the owner Tony was very helpful as this was our first time using Owners Direct.

A great centre for walking on the Fells or just on the level.Located in the centre of the village .Plenty of restaurants coffee shops within the walking distance.Local pubs near by with beer gardens.


Excellent bus service in the village to Keswick, Ambleside, Windermere etc.
