Details for holiday cottage Lane Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, Sleeps 4, 1 Bathroom

Situated down the lane from the Lanherne, Lane Cottage has south facing windows opening onto a lawn giving wide views of the Lanherne valley and the sea.

A small bathroom with w/c and a double bedroom open off the living room.

From the bedroom a short, steep, narrow, cupboard staircase leads up to a low, sloping cielinged attic room with two single beds and a sea view. Perhaps more suitable for children.

A special and magical place

  • 5 of 5

I have been coming to Porth Farm cottages for over 20 years staying in nearly every variety of accommodation they have to offer from the static caravan to Porth Farm House. Since having Children I now firmly fixed to staying at Lane Cottage.

If in a holiday you are looking for a something with a bit of magic this is the place for you. Almost the instant you arrive you are freed from the burden of everday life.

The cottage itself is small but perfectly formed. We marvel every year how liberated we feel to be without all the things that fill our London home. You realise how little you need to be happy. This is not a place to come if you need all the mod cons but for me that is the joy. I am taken back to a simpler time where there is space for thinking and breathing and relaxing.

The best part is seeing my children being able to roam free and have adventures without me having to hold tight to the leash that we normally have to teather them with. There is an art class every morning and an area where all the children from the cottages can meet and make a world for themselves.

Besides the great beach at the bottom of the hill (with surf school if you wish) there are many many places to go and things to do. A walk along the cliff top to Bedruthen Steps for a cream tea, a round of crazy golf, a wonderful woodland walk to St Mawgan, a day out in Padstow which can be reached by bike riding along the Camel Trail from Wadebridge. To be honest though most often we are happiest just staying in Mawgan Porth and going to the sea whatever the weather.

It is a testament to how remarkable this place is that it has a faithful following of people who rebook every year to come again. There is nowhere else like it.

Activity and Interests

Special interest holidays:

Mawgan Porth is a wide sandy bay on the north coast of Cornwall about half way between Newquay and Padstow. It forms the seaward end of the lovely Vale of Lanherne running into St. Mawgan and St. Columb. The beach is flanked by high cliffs, rocks and caves with a stream winding down one side and a small waterfall on the other. The surfing is good, with an excellent surf school, and beach guards are on duty throughout the summer. The cliffs for several miles around are protected by the National Trust including the magnificent scenery at Bedruthan Steps just along the road among a number of other fine beaches. There are many splendid walks, a favourite being the footpath to picturesque St. Mawgan, one of the prettiest villages in Cornwall, and dating from the Middle Ages.

Mawgan Porth now boasts several excellent restaurants, a well-stocked grocery shop a fish and chip shop, a café and pubs There are also two farm shops - one organic. The surf Mecca of Newquay is 5 miles to the south west and offers all the facilities of a seaside town with the usual supermarkets, banks, pharmacies etc. Between us and Newquay is Watergate Bay with it's kite surfing and Jamie Oliver's 15.

2.5 miles from Newquay Airport.

5 miles to the north we have the ancient fishing town of Padstow with the lobster hatchery, deep sea fishing and a variety of boat trips, cycling on the Camel trail and Rick Stein's restaurant.

Local activities include :- Surfing, kite surfing, go-carting, fishing, tennis, golf, crazy golf, horse riding and guided walks.
