Cosy house with beautiful views

  • 5 of 5

Lovely large open plan kitchen / diner / sitting room with beautiful views . We are a family of 5 and during our stay another family of 5 stayed with us for 2 nights and there was plenty of room for all . Wood burner kept the upstairs cosy and enough wood was provided for the whole week . Downstairs the bedrooms were perfect for kids and adults alike and wet room a real luxury with an enormous bath and powerful shower . It's a shame we couldn't work out how to work out the underfloor heating downstairs as the floor was cold and bathroom floor stayed wet . Sun pours into the upstairs windows in the afternoon which you can open really wide and enjoy the beautiful views . The location of the house is perfect - 5 mins to the beach and footpath with many walks halfway down the lane . Kids loved the garden and the zip wire although it was a shame there was rather a lot of dog mess out there where irresponsible owners had not cleared up after their dogs .

Fantastic find!

  • 5 of 5

We were a family group including a baby and two boys and a dog. We could not have found a better place to stay. The big family room had an amazing big wooden table we could sit and have family meals and games at, it also had settee and chairs so you could sit looking out through the sliding room size windows giving fabulous views over Mawgan port and the beach. The kitchen was fitted out with everything we needed and we had a lovely outside bbq area and bench which we utilised a few times. The kids ere in heaven with a zip wire and play area and made friends with the lovely children there, it felt really safe and the kids loved it.

The modern bathroom downstairs was brilliant with walk in shower and a big modern bath/. The beds were really comfy and the windows downstairs open on to the lawn. The town is a 5 minute walk down to the beach and the area is beautiful and perfect for kids.

The owners could not do enough for us and we felt like we were staying at friends. Did not want to leave and even tried to stay another night LOVED it and would HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!! and can't wait to return or visit one of their other properties! Thanks for making our family holiday one to remember!

Annexe. Location Location Location!

PERFECT for dog walkers, cyclists, beach users, and photographers.

Furniture and facilities are simple, straightforward and as described. Everything was spotless for our arrival, and communications from Michelle were great. We'd highly recommend this to our sporty/walking/dog owning friends.

The walk-in shower accessible from the side of the property means you can come off the beach/get off your bike/come in from a wet walk or run, straight into the shower, and then go into the house. Marvellous. Why doesn't every coastal/holiday house have one of these??

The open" garage" area under the property is a perfect storage area for multiple bikes and surf/body boards, and ample hanging space for wetsuits/swimming costumes.

Parking is right outside, shared with the adjacent house, so you know who's coming and going - it's a dead end so there's no passing traffic.

Walking/dog walking - right from the door onto footpaths for miles, with the odd road crossing! Fabulous cycling on relatively quiet roads all around, but it is hilly - don't expect a flat stretch for longer than a mile or so.

Ample fridge space for a big group, great family feel to the dining area, but best of all the huge sliding windows mean that you feel like you're outside when you're in! - Your own "picnic" table outside too.

Location is everything though. The local Mawgan Porth beach boarding is great just after low tide, then go round to Watergate Bay later if you want more surf/boarding.

Photography - Bedruthan Steps are a 30 minute walk along fabulous cliffs, or a 5 minute drive - for stunning, stunning shots at any time of day but particularly sunset. Take a tripod for beach-level long exposures... then tomorrow go on to the next headland, and the next bay, and the next...

Lovely feel to the whole complex, and the family/owners on site are really helpful. Did I say I'd recommend it?.....

(ps - We loved the paintings... very contemporary...)

Activity and Interests

Special interest holidays:

Mawgan Porth is a wide sandy bay on the north coast of Cornwall about half way between Newquay and Padstow. It forms the seaward end of the lovely Vale of Lanherne running into St. Mawgan and St. Columb. The beach is flanked by high cliffs, rocks and caves with a stream winding down one side and a small waterfall on the other. The surfing is good, with an excellent surf school, and beach guards are on duty throughout the summer. The cliffs for several miles around are protected by the National Trust including the magnificent scenery at Bedruthan Steps just along the road among a number of other fine beaches. There are many splendid walks, a favourite being the footpath to picturesque St. Mawgan, one of the prettiest villages in Cornwall, and dating from the Middle Ages.

Mawgan Porth now boasts several excellent restaurants, a well-stocked grocery shop a fish and chip shop, a café and pubs There are also two farm shops - one organic. The surf Mecca of Newquay is 5 miles to the south west and offers all the facilities of a seaside town with the usual supermarkets, banks, pharmacies etc. Between us and Newquay is Watergate Bay with it's kite surfing and Jamie Oliver's 15.

2.5 miles from Newquay Airport.

5 miles to the north we have the ancient fishing town of Padstow with the lobster hatchery, deep sea fishing and a variety of boat trips, cycling on the Camel trail and Rick Stein's restaurant.

Local activities include :- Surfing, kite surfing, go-carting, fishing, tennis, golf, crazy golf, horse riding and guided walks.
