I live in Edinburgh with my husband and 2 children and co own the property with my sister who too lives in Edinburgh with her husband and 2 children, however we have friends and family in Aviemore and the surrounding area.

Why conrad king chose Aviemore and the Cairngorms

My family spent every summer, Easter and Autumn when we were growing up in and around Aviemore so the area holds special memories for my sister, brother and I. We bought this house so we can still spend time here from time to time with our children and share the highlands with friends and like minded people who enjoy all the wonders the highlands has to offer.

The house is contemporary yet homely with all the mod cons you would want in the perfect location. We love it here and hope you do too.

What makes this house unique

The property has a post office, 2 shops, 2 restaurants, pub, cycle hire, steam railway, cycle path to Aviemore and golf course all within 500 yards but retains its tranquility. The property has a spacious garden which is safe and secure and well equipped for children and adults.

The steam train railway is at the bottom of the garden and the views of the Cairngorms are lovely.

Landmark is 4 miles away and it a great day out for everyone as is a trip to Aviemore which has a cinema for those rainy days!

The Osprey centre is along the road and there are plenty of walks to go on around the loch not far from the house - we have left brochures and information in the house so you will never be bored as the possibilities of things to do is almost endless!

Comfortable and family friendly

We really enjoyed our stay. The house had everything needed for a family to visit, including toys and plastic utensils for the youngest of visitors. The house has a homely feel which we liked. It is so close to all the local amenities in the village including restaurants, shops etc. The post office seems to stock everything we had forgotten! We got the bulk of our groceries delivered from a large supermarket which worked really well once he found us. The garden is lovely to relax in and it also had a drying whirligig which was useful when it stopped raining. The steam train passing at the bottom of the garden was great fun.

The easy access to all the activities in the surrounding area makes this a great base, you are only 10 mins from Aviemore , 5 from Carrbridge and 40 mins from Inverness. We had a great time exploring, zip lining, quad biking, swimming etc.etc. etc.There is so much to do in the area one visit isn't enough.

We gave it 4 out of 5 as it does need a little more TLC i.e. the paperwork re essential items about bins/recycling etc need updated, some cupboard door hinges need fixed and a few more tea towels would have been appreciated.

Overall good value for money.

Nice house and well situated. Good sized rooms and well equipped.

The house was nice and well equipped. The rooms were a good size. The house was warm. Shower was nice and powerful. Unfortunately the kitchen, cupboards and dishes were not very clean but after I cleaned all was good. Kitchen well equipped for cooking. Had a nice stay.

Great place to stay in Western Cairngorms

Finding a good place to stay for a family of five in the Western Highlands of Scotland can be challenging and I was a bit reluctant to rent this house because there weren't very many recent reviews. After having stayed there, my advice is, don't let that stop you from booking this property. This proved to be an excellent place for us to stay. The property is in Boat of Garten, which is a very small town a few miles northeast of Aviemore. We used this as our base camp for exploring the Highlands and it was very effective. You can do easy day trips to Loch Ness (Urquhart Castle), Inverness, the whiskey distilleries all throughout the Spey river valley, hiking in the western Cairngorms or even to the east side of Cairngorm National Park if you want.

As a bit of a bonus, this property essentially backs up to the Boat of Garten golf club, which allowed us to play a couple of rounds for a reasonable fee; we were able to walk to the course and it was beautiful.

Check in and check out was very easy and flexible, and the communication with Conrad was very good. We had one question about the Wifi, which was answered immediately and in a helpful way. Personally, I think if you're going to rent a house/apartment in this area, you're well advised to start with some reasonable expectations. For instance, I think it's going to be impossible to find a place where your family can take five long hot showers in a row and you can't do that here either. But the bottom lines are (1) it's a very nice property; (2) the location is excellent, (3) the property has everything necessary to house a family of five comfortably, (3) the Wifi works, (4) the communication with the owner is good and (5) check in and check out are very easy. And I should add a very large (6) inasmuch as the price can't be beat; it's a truly exceptional value. I have no hesitation in recommending this house to anyone seeking to explore the Highlands from a functional base camp. If I were coming back, I certainly wouldn't look anywhere else; I'd book this again with no second thought.
