Apartment in Saalbach, Austria - Stunning Riverside Location, Perfect For Skiing, Mountain Biking Or Walking Holidays

The spacious apartment is situated on the top floor of a small chalet style apartment house and has stunning views of the adjacent River Saalach and of the Schattberg mountain and cable car. It is stylishly furnished yet retains the sense of its mountain setting with lots of natural materials such as wood, leather and stone. The apartment house is a short walk (6 mins) from the many amenities of Saalbach village centre and the main lifts. In winter the extensive ski area can be accessed rapidly with the Schattberg lift only 600m away and a ski bus stop only 100m from the apartment building. In summer the excellent outdoor pool complex 'Captain Hooks', is only a 2min walk! The apartment building is directly on the Saalbach-Hinterglemm Promenade, a comprehensive riverside walking/cycling network which links in with many of the mountain bike downhill tracks and walking/hiking routes.

I would thoroughly recommend both the Austrian ski resort of Saalbach and the lovely apartment that we stayed in.

Paul’s apartment is on the second floor of an apartment house within easy reach of all amenities. It is a spacious two bedroom apartment with a well equipped modern kitchen and cosy, homely living accommodation. The two bedrooms are separated by a lovely hallway giving enough privacy if families are sharing. We didn’t make use of the balcony but it was really lovely and in the summer would lend itself to relaxing evenings enjoying a glass or two of wine enjoying the view and listening to the water from the stream running by. There is also a TV and a DVD player, perfect for when you are après-skied out!

The apartment was very clean.

We ordered a linen pack of bedding and towels and expected to make up the beds on arrival, only to find it had been done for us by the cleaners!

I will definitely be booking Paul’s apartment for our return.

Notes on accommodation: Due to the wooden construction of the building the apartment is strictly non smoking. Unfortunately it is not suitable for pets. There is a reserved parking space at the front of the apartment building. Outside: There is a balcony with fantastic views which has lighting, outdoor seating and a small bar area. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Fresh towels and bed linen can be provided or you can provide your own. Cleaning is between departure and arrival of guests with a cost of €75. You can choose to self clean. Other: The apartment has an entrance hallway with coat and footwear storage (not ski boots). There is a balcony with magnificent unbroken views, outdoor seating and a small bar area. Ski boot/ski storage is available in the cellar.

Great Apartment, even a small Bar with a heater!

Paul was great prior to arrival, quick to respond and always happy to help.

We were two couples who ate in and went out about a 50/50 split in the evening and this was the perfect base for us, walking distance to an Mpreiss down the river and similar distance to the hub of Saalbach. The apartment its self was more spacious than it looked in the pictures and even had a balcony with a bar. Not to mention Paul's lovely neighbors who invited us in for a drink.

Overall, lovely place and owner, would recommend as a perfect spot for any group of four.

Saalbach Apartment ~8113199 Review

I would highly recommend this Saalbach apartment; it is very clean, well equipped and spacious with plenty of room for 5 adults. The apartment is ideally situated about 10 minutes’ walk from the Schattberg X-Press Lift in the village and there are shops and lots of places to eat close by. The security deposit and final payment process was simple via IBAN. The proprietor Paul, was very accommodating and helpful and responded to all queries very promptly. Checking in was seamless from the excellent instructions which Paul provided. I would rate this property very highly and would definitely stay at this apartment again.

Great Saalbach Apartment

This is a great apartment in Saalbach - clean, light, spacious and equipped with everything you need. The apartment was much bigger than we expected - great sized double room and a lovely twin room for our kids, both with lots of storage. We stayed for a week with our 2 boys, aged 7 and 5, their first time skiing. Great location - a 10 min walk into town - however we had a car and lots of kids kit to lug around, so chose to drive to the Schattberg lift in the centre of town every morning and left the car there all day - unbelievably the parking was free. We could drop the kids at ski school and then head straight up on the lifts. In the evenings, we either cooked in the apartment, or took the short stroll into town, where the restaurants and bars were great fun, very friendly and extremely reasonable. We used the fantastic ski school in town for the boys, Snow Academy, where they had a fantastic time and the instructors had them off the nursery slopes and up the mountain in 4 days. My husband and I had time to explore the ample ski area and check out fantastic restaurants up the mountain - our favourite was the Westernstadl - the Rauchkuchl good too and all very reasonable. In Saalbach we mainly went to the Hotel Eva, which was great for an après beer, drinks and chips with the kids under the heaters. If like us, you are looking for a great place to take the kids, then look no further, this really fits the bill. Paul was great helping us with any questions, recommendations etc. We are already booked to go back next year!

Perfekt für die große Familie

Vorab ein großes Lob an den Eigentümer Paul, die Kommunikation erfolgte immer freundlich, zuverlässig und umfassend - man fühlt sich sich bestens informiert.

Das Apartment ist wunderschön, man fühlt sich sofort wohl. Das liegt zum Einem an der Größe, Aufteilung und Ausstattung der Wohnung zum Andreren an der Lage im Zentrum von Saalbach.

Ein Highlight ist die schön beleuchtetet und beheizte Außen-Bar auf dem Balkon mit Blick auf den Bach hinter dem Haus.

Die Küche ist voll ausgestattet, Waschmaschine usw. machen den Aufenthalt sehr entspannt.

Wir kommen wieder!

Special interest holidays:

In summer the area is transformed into breathtaking vistas wherever you look. From the high mountain pastures through the evergreen forests to the fast running streams this wonderful scenery is accessible from over 400km of walking/hiking routes and a similar number of mountain biking trails. Bikes can be rented locally and at a reasonable cost. The area is brimming with more challenging outdoor activities including kayaking, quad biking, paragliding, white water rafting, horse riding and a high ropes and zip wire course! Families are particularly well catered for with a number of children’s wildlife and adventure trails and numerous parks.


Saalbach is accessible from both Salzburg(80km) and Munich((220km) airports. Both these airports are served by low cost airlines from a number of UK airports. There is a shuttle bus available via the Saalbach-Hinterglemm website and local transport can be used in the form of a bus from the airport (1hr30min, 1 change). Car hire would be beneficial in the summer.


Saalbach centre is 500m. Hinterglemm is 1km. Zell am See is 14km. Kitzsteinhorn glacier and year round skiing 33km. Glossklockner and its wildlife park and alpine drive 35km. Kitsbuhel 55km. Salzburg is 80km.

Further Details:

The bars and restaurants of Saalbach are only 500m away. Saalbach is one of the liveliest resorts in the alps for night-life and has something for everyone whether its a cosy heated terrace or a cellar bar with live band. The apres ski bars at the foot of the slopes are very lively from mid afternoon until late and are great fun. Saalbach has everything you would expect of a major ski resort including lots of ski hire shops, gift shops, banks, restaurants and upmarket ski equipment shops.

Booking Notes:
A refundable deposit of £200 is required to secure the booking with the balance payable 6 weeks prior to arrival. The deposit will be returned in the week after departure following inspection. There is also a charge of €1.15/£1 per person/day tourist tax. This is for over 15's and goes to the local tourism board. There will be additional costs of €75 for cleaning the apartment and €8/person/week for bedding/towels if required.

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is Saturday during the ski season but this is flexible during the rest of the year.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 14 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
