THE LOCAL AREA:

Cirencester is often referred to as the ‘Capital of the Cotswolds’ and was the second largest town in Britain during Roman times. In later years it became a very prosperous medieval wool town and today it still contains many interesting buildings with architectural styles spanning several centuries.

The award winning Corinium Museum, which houses one of the largest collections of Romano-British antiquities, is only five minutes’ walk away from the house.

A gentle stroll from the house brings you to the town centre, which has a pleasant mixture of independent and national shops. There are plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from or if you want to stay in and cook, there are excellent independent butchers, fishmongers and delis in Cirencester and a large Waitrose within walking distance where you can stock up on provisions.

Within a short drive of Cirencester there are many other attractions to visit, including: Westonbirt Arboretum which is particularly stunning in autumn; the Cotswold Water Park for a range water sports and other recreational activities; Chedworth Roman Villa; the historic wool towns of Tetbury and Stroud and the beautiful countryside of The Cotswolds with stunning scenery, ideal for walking and rambling.

FURTHER AFIELD:

Cirencester borders the eastern edge of the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The area is well known for gentle hillsides (‘wolds’), outstanding countryside with river valleys, water meadows and beech woods, sleepy ancient limestone villages, historic market towns and for being ‘typically English’.

Throughout the area, the honey-coloured Cotswolds limestone features in buildings and stone walls acting as a common thread in seamlessly blending the historic towns and villages with their surrounding landscape. Offering breath-taking scenery ideal for keen walkers, the Cotswolds offers 3000 miles of public footpaths and offers one of the best kept ‘rights of way’ networks in the country.

The Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty also contains a number of national and regional walking routes such as 'The Cotswolds Way Trail', 'Macmillan Way', 'Oxfordshire Way' and 'Shakespeare's Way'. Circular routes with self-guided leaflets are also plentiful.

The city of Gloucester is a short drive away, boasting a fine cathedral and the recently regenerated Gloucester Docks area. The spa town Cheltenham, is similarly nearby and is renowned for its many cultural festivals, elegant architecture, excellent shopping, and the racecourse which is the host of the internationally famous Gold Cup each March.

We were right in the centre of Cirencester and parking right at the property of the road and through a gate. The property was lovely and had everything you needed to enjoy your break. The two bathrooms and downstairs Toilet made it great for the four of us.We would recommend it to anyone going to Cirencester.

Excellent location
The property was within easy walking distance of the town centre. The car parking was a massive advantage. Issues with the central heating boiler meant a restless last night but overall a good stay.

Lovely stay at Battel Mews, very well situated right in the middle of town but hidden! Perfect little bolt hole for exploring Cirencester. Would definitely visit again

Adorable house in a beautiful village
The house was delightful and we had a fantastic time. The only downside was the children’s bedroom. The beds are on a high platform with a steep ladder and there is no protector guards on there. The kids loved it but it made me anxious about them using the ladder in the night or rolling off. More suited to a small group of 4 people.

Lovely location
We love Cirencester, usually visiting in our motor home. As waiting for a new one to arrive, thought we’d try this alternative holiday. A very nice home from home, five minutes level walk to beautiful Cirencester town centre. Well equipped with all the general necessities
