House in North Ballachulish, Nr. Glencoe, Scotland - Convenient Location For Walking, Cycling And Driving Day Trips In The West Highlands

Leven House is a four-bedroom detached house with great mountain and loch views. It has a secluded back garden with a beautiful slate-lined, mountain stream running through it. At the front on the ground floor is a large, comfy living room with wood-burning stove and separate open plan sun lounge, hall and dining room with door to South-facing deck. At the rear is a large, modern kitchen and utility, bathroom with shower and twin bedroom. Up the stairs are two double bedrooms, a triple bedroom, bathroom and shower room. The house makes a great base for day trips walking, cycling or driving around the Glencoe area, south towards Oban, North to Fort William and the Great Glen and West on the Corran Ferry to the Ardnamurchan peninsula. If you don't want to go too far you can stroll 10 minutes to the pebbly beach on the shore of Loch Linnhe or just relax in the garden, read books, play table football or board games or even watch tv.

Close enough to reach on a Friday night from Edinburgh but feels great when you wake up in the morning and look at the hills and the sea.

What makes this house unique

The house is big enough to share with another family or with one or both sets of grandparents. The back garden and the stream give the children a good place to play when we are just relaxing at the house.

Coast/Beach:

This is a coastal location so there are lots of different types of beach. 10 minutes walk to the pebbly beach on the shore of Loch Linnhe, 15 minutes drive to the sand and shingle of Cuil bay, 45 minutes South to Ganavan sands, 60 minutes North West to Glen Uig or 90 minutes to the silver sands of Morar near Mallaig, 60-90 minutes across the Corran Ferry to beaches on the West coast of Ardnamurchan.

Travel:

Glasgow airport 88 miles, (approx 2 hours drive), Inverness airport 86 miles (approx. 2 hours drive), Edinburgh airport 114 miles (approx two and a half hours drive). A car is essential.

Corran Ferry (to Ardnamurchan) 4 miles

Food shops: Local garage with shop for milk and papers is 15 minutes walk (Onich filling station), Post office with shop in Onich is 2 miles, Co-op is 3 miles away in Ballachulish village, Nisa in Glencoe village 5 miles or large Morrisons is 12 miles (20 minutes drive) away in Fort William.

Cash machines: Coop in Ballachulish, Nisa in Glencoe village or Morrisons and banks in Fort William.

Fuel: Filling stations in Onich, Glencoe and Fort William.

There are several good restaurants (mostly in hotels) and pubs with food in the Glencoe, Onich and Kentallen area.

People generally come to the West Highlands to enjoy the outdoors by walking, climbing, cycling, fishing, kayaking, sailing and skiing. There are lots of opportunities for these activities or just exploring on foot, bike or by car.

Notes on accommodation: Sleeps 10 in 4 bedrooms. The triple bedroom upstairs has a single bed, bunk bed (single bed size mattresses) and a child's bed (can be shortened or lengthened). There is also a sofa bed in the sun lounge. There is a travel cot and a travel high chair that straps onto a dining chair. If you need more baby equipment please let us know and we may be able to make arrangements. We do not accept pets. We do not allow smoking inside the house. There are plenty of logs available for the wood-burning stove free-of-charge. WiFi is available at the house at no extra charge. The TV uses the Free-Sat service (like Free-View). The DVD player also plays video tapes and there is a selection of (mostly children's) movies. There are lots of books to read both fiction and non-fiction. Outside: There is parking for three cars including one space under a car port which is useful if it is raining. At the front is a lawn and a raised deck with tables and chairs. The back garden has a triple swing and rope swing for children. There is a small mountain stream flowing through the back garden great for splashing and playing. Utility Room: Washing machine, tumble dryer Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included. The property is normally cleaned weekly but can be left for a fortnight if requested. Towels and linen can be changed mid-way during a two week let. Other: Open plan - Dining room: Dining table with 8 chairs and two extensions, sideboard with board games. Sun-lounge: Double sofa bed and single arm chair. Hall: table football with door to deck in front of living room.

Great location

Great place to stay if exploring the West coast of Scotland. Nice and quiet and a great outlook. Plenty to see, all you need is a plan. If you are into walking you have found paradise. Literally miles of trails and if gazing at mountains is your scene, well, it doesn't get any better.

Lots to see and do around, North Ballachuilish. Leven house is situated in beautiful surroundings and is a very spacious and comfortable place to stay.

Felt like we stayed at a friend's place

Sometimes, instead of a soulless, sterile rental cottage, you find a place that feels like a close friend let your borrow their home. This is that place - comfortably furnished, roomy, great location, plenty of books, movies, and toys for the kids. The owners were great to work with and we loved our stay here. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat and recommend it to anyone who is travelling with a larger family. My kids LOVED the yard with the swing set and the stream in the back. We all enjoyed the short walk to the beach to skip rocks and pick up sea glass. It was a short drive to Glencoe, a quick drive to a decent grocery store, and Ft William for a large grocery. There were 6 of us and we never ran out of hot water and the auto set for the temperature controls kept us comfortable.

Great for hill-walkers

Leven House is a great location for hill-walkers and others who like to get into the outdoors. It is situated at a key point for easy access to many beautiful glens and ranges of hills, and of course the sea shores. The view of the Ballachulish Horseshoe round of mountains from the living room is inspirational. The facilities are roomy and comfortable, and there are local shops etc. nearby.
